Man. SO ADDICTIVE! I'm supposed to be asleep! Anywho, I can do the throttle balancing thing with slow cars, but my high speed skills are WAY behind! This week's race is going to be all about that too, so depending on how much time I can spend on this week's race, I'll have improved my skills and put down a decent time!

Splits so far:
18.098
35.227
53.475

I can see myself in the 52s with another hour. Who knows where I'll be if I can spend more than another hour on this race... :) I hope I can! It's fun!

here some splits from me, renaming into MR BOTTOMOFTHELIST

t1 19.851
t2 38.553
t3 59.204

i'm at r5's, top 330, tcs, auto. tcs off makes the car -using ds2- very slippery in slow corners but faster in sweepers. r5/r4 or 3 combinations -to induce some oversteer- makes the car unbalanced. lower topspeeds has the same effect. its on auto because i still dont have time to think about gears while racing.

so there are a few options.
- my ps2/gt4/ds2 combo comes from a different planet
- i'm way too old for this game
- i'll never race properly
- i'm just a dork

probably 3 out of 4 are correct.

Splits:

T1: 17.926
T2: 35.262
T3: 53.983

Div 2 on DS2 :D

Also: What's the deal with the pit-lane area immediately after the start/finish line?

Which white line designates the edge of the track, and consequently how much can we cut the first kink on the way down to the hairpin?

Need to get this cleared up I think as it's easy to get the car completely into the pit lane, and if this is illegal...

The pit lane is ok as long as it is part of the track. I mean, you can ignore the white line and use all the tarmac surface in the straight. But when you reach turn 1, where the pit lane and the track are separated by a dirt area, then you have to stay on the track itself : the end of the pit-lane which shortcuts the curve is off-track.

Many if not most tracks have at least some named corners especially the signature ones... No Name Straight at Lime Rock...
What a great name they've found !

I've always thought that the reason for that was the same as for street names : due to cultural differences. In Europe, most cities started as small villages between the roman era and the middle ages. So over that long period of time people have been naming streets by referring to something that had happened there, or somebody special who was living in.
In the US, cities have been built very quickly and were almost designed before being built. So they didn't have any history people could refer to when naming the streets. And numbers were an obvious and easy solution to identify streets.
I guess it is the reason for a cultural difference which makes Americans believe it's ok to just number things, while Europeans like to give unique names.
Just my 0.02 €.

Just a word of warning.

If you go all the way into the pit-lane it doesn't record your best-lap. Try it next time and see. Cut the into the pit lane, and you won't have any +/- at split times or final times. This same thing occured to me at the BC6 qualifiers, when I tried to use the pit-lane to get a better angle.

had a quick 1.5 hour session and managed to do a great T3 time, but a ****ing ****house finishing corner really ****ed up what could have been a ****ing great lap, so i'm ****ing slightly dissapointed with my doggishly craptastic finishing corner as i lost a wopping .25ish at least as i missed the ****ing braking poin by about 1.5 metres. ****. the splits looked a bit like this

17.620
34.082 (very good- i was excited)
51.928 (**** me)

time not submitted due to limit not aquired as of yet

T1: 20.442
T2: 39.033
T3: 1'00.121

Done that with R/S tyre and 320km settings. I plunged a tire too far out at turn 6 but since I can surely do better I won't worry much. :)

Let's see if I can keep pace with ya Shawn, nice to see u around again mate!

Jerome

Blimey, that gaps getting bigger already! I'm off for some more practice, new times soon. 👍

True, I find American street names to be redundant and confusing. Yes I do live here, but some places are better than others:
Two places I've lived in:
Miami and Atlanta.

Miami has perfect north/south and east/west streets, it's like a grid and you can't get lost. On the other hand, Atlanta roads are all over the place, diagonal, curved, and every road has a similar name! I have never seen a place where over 100 streets have Mill or Peachtree or Ville in the name! I was actually learning the streets in Miami...at 9 yrs! Now in Atlanta, I have my license and I can barely remember where anything is, so really I can get to my school and the movie theatre, but that's it. I don't even know what roads they are on, just how to get there. New York seems to be complicated with tons of number streets, but it's like a grid, so it couldn't be that hard to get lost. Detroit isn't too bad either, I can find my way to the NAIAS without much difficulty.

New splits, done with RS and 300km set (and totally clean this time :))...

T1: 19.544
T2: 38.454
T3: 58.870

Major gain on the third quart of the lap, that's good! By the way, I had a funny idea with the selection of rubber. Tried to put on a time with Softs in the front and Meds in the rear. Surely enough, it's not much of a good idea for me; I already use TCS elseway I'd rather do donuts than laps. :dunce:

Might try RS/RSS tomoz!

Have been concentrating on JGTC qualifying at Monaco.

On the other hand RSS/RS might be the way to go, with TCS! As the car comes with TCS as standard!

hey every one. long time no see. it's been a long time sinse i've done one of these. you name it, it's happened. this week seems slow for me so i thought i'd give it a go. just this week probably. thats if i'm lucky enough for things to stay slow. Anyway, i have my max drive so if i do well enough to need verification i can provide it. lol I'ts been forever sinse i've played this game. lots of rust to work out but i've already been working and things are starting to click. and with that. my first splits:

T1: 18.710
T2: 36.153
T3: 55.290

I'm done for tonight. i know i can beat that. we'll see if i get time during the week.

[EDIT]
oh yeah, no driving aids. and unfortunately i'm relegated to a DS2 for now. i've seen faster times with the dfp but right now factors prevent me from using it.

Man, I would love to do this combo. But I am knee deep in setting up Screamernet for Lightwave this week. I hope I can get a chance to race this weekend... If not, have fun! After the last 2 races this should be a reprieve!!

Why wouldn't you use RSS all around???

Anywho, more splits, and quite possibly my last for this week's race...

T1: 17.836
T2: 34.827
T3: 52.842

That's more like my real self, no? :sly:

Now, here's the catch, it's SOOOOO CLOSE to being off right after T3, but here's my confirmation that it's good:

Looks clean here:

Same pause, but somehow manages to look like it would become dirty once the rumble is up...?:

And then the proof that it's clean:

Same thing, but zoomed in:

I will submit this lap unless I have the time to sit down and actually improve on it. Chances of that are very slim, as this track is HARD to weave through perfectly, especially in this car, for me, and I assume many others. I have been through every turn better pretty much, but not all at once. So, there is definitely room for improvement, but this is where I'm going to be for now...

I used 310 gearing, RSS tires all around, no aids.

whooopee! another 1.3 secs off the laptime and t3 says i'm no longer mister bottomofthelist - for now anyways.
t1 19.254 👍
t2 37.519 👍 👍
t3 58.381 👍 👍 👍
lap 1.1-.--- still too high but it won't get better this week.
if z-reserve improves not too much (only half a second between us) i'll be very happy for the week.
:) god do i love racing :)
ps to the cracks from outer space: how on earth is it possible you lap me by more than 8 seconds?
some directions would be nice (dan).

Lost a little on the final corner, but satisfied for the time being.

T1: 17.815
T2: 34.460
T3: 52.375

P.S. Was a little off on that barrier . . . Back to you, Mister Shunt. :sly:

@StevenDeRuig: I'm a bit off Dan's pace, but I think I can give a small lap run-down . . .

290km/h - No Aids - RSS/RSS

Cross the start/finish line at ~145mph, just having shifted to 6th gear.

On the run down to the Andretti Hairpin, get as far right as is legally possible and brake just before the #2 marker, down to 3rd gear. I coast a little here as the car turns in better off-throttle and honestly, just guess at the exact line to enter (sometimes the curb will get you, sometimes not). The car wants to really push at the limit here, so watch it.

Turn 3: Brake just after the #2 marker into 4th, turn in at the #1 marker and get back in the throttle.
Turn 4: Same thing, only stay in 5th here.
Turn 5: Brake immediately at the #2 marker into 4th and rotate (more quickly than you did at Andretti) the car as it coasts into the apex.
Turn 6: If you get a good run up the hill, you'll be almost hitting the rev limiter in 5th. You might be tempted to shift, but don't. Brake just before the #1 marker and trail-braking seems to get me through here the best, but careful not to use too much brake so you can get a good run up the hill.
Corkscrew: Brake about a car-length before the rumble strip on the right down to 3rd gear, coast a little until just when all of the car is going downhill, get back on it.
Rainey Curve: If you're using normal display to light up the gear indicators, you'll want to use a tiny bit of brake immediately when gear 4 pops up (or @ ~115MPH) on the screen. Get back on it quickly and pray you don't hit the inside curb so much as to propel you off-course.
Turn 10: Brake immediately at the #2 marker into 4th.
Turn 11: Brake about a car-length after the #3 marker into 3rd gear and you're home free.

Hope that helps some.

Good to be racing with you again also, Jerome. Hop on MSN sometime (Have no room to talk, lol, just started using it again).

Thanks for the run through Z, I might try a few of those things... Namely, the gearing. Aren't you topping out with that gearing though? Maybe it's just barely enough. Sounds like it works well for the rest of the course though, so 👍

I THINK that I may have noticed that if you get to the right too early before the first turn, with the outside wheels in the darker pavement, it doesn't brake as well? Maybe not, but I think I might've noticed that, but it could very well have just been when I was getting on the brakes.

Z.
Lost a little on the final corner, but satisfied for the time being.

T1: 17.815
T2: 34.460
T3: 52.375

All righty then. Nice splits Shaun. 👍 Will give it a serious go tonight. You haven't heard last of me yet. :mischievous: Last night was the first night of golf league, and I was in no shape to drive when I got home. :ill:

@KLR- If you just barely knock over the second to last marker on the right when approaching the first turn, and brake just milliseconds b4 it, you will get a little mini drift that you can use to power right thru this double apex. My best T1's were when I didn't try and clip the second apex on the first turn, but stayed a little wide.

Yeah, I got that little drift/power through going two or three times(one of my best laps from last night until this one). My current lap though I think is just as fast. Where I'm losing time though is on almost every other turn. I'll mess around with that part though when I sit down again. 👍 Thanks!

T1 18.122
T2 35.513
T3 54.308

What the!? I though I had a GREAT lap there, surely not the fastest but should've been at least in the top 20%?

I'm guessing that I didn't drop the weight... DUH!!

Hopefully I'll get another whack at this later. It's always more fun anyway to learn a combo then crank up the power or grip or drop weight rather than vice-versa!

Later!

-SHig

New splits, this might seem a bit odd but they're actually slower than my old ones, it's faster at the finish line though so here goes,

T1 19.057
T2 36.633
T3 55.713

Looks like I'm using pretty much the same set-up as everyone else this week, super soft tyres all round (duh), 300 max speed and, to my own surprise, no aids, TCS really seems to hurt your acceleration if you're clipping the kerbs, bit obvious really. :dopey:

Hopefully I'll be able to put a decent lap together over the weekend, gonna be busy with work and my mini resoration till then! :ouch:

What did someone turn the lights out around here? First post in 9 hours??? :dopey:
Well, gave it another hour tonight. Finished very nicely, but still.......turn 5 is giving me fits. Ah well. This will probably do it for me.

T1: 17.822
T2: 34.606
T3: 52.435

T1: 18.762
T2: 36.140
T3: 55.241

WHOO HOO! lol ok so not really an improvement as far as splits go, and some really big mistakes but almost a full second faster at the line so yeah. *sprays WD-40* Mhmm, come on baby lets go...

Okay, remembered to set the weight -10%, but for some reason my time didn't come down 10%?! ;^)

T1 17.874
T2 34.749
T3 53.520

Better, but still nowhere near fast...

-SHig

I'm ahead of D1 guys, I'm ahead of D1 guys... Ahh, it feels good to be fast again... :sly:

Sorry! It's just been a while since I've been quick... Thanks for the opportunity Cyril!!! 👍

T1: 18.569
T2: 35.982
T3: 54.635 <- dirty

now thats more like it, and annother .5 faster at the finish. oh yeah... it was DIRTY for all of about a milisecond (had to use photomode to make sure) in the STUPIDEST of all places, the corkscrew. a place where i have absolutely no trouble whatsoever with my exit. i could have taken this corner with four wheels on track at this angle and still made it through fine but nooooo i just had to try and let it straighten out. :indiff: anyway... i'm done for tonight but i expect to hit this CLEANLY within the week.
