New splits:

T1: 14.119
T2: 54.353

figured out the trick for getting through the T2 "s" without lifting. ;)

[EDIT]

T1: 13.984
T2: 54.045

This race is just flippin crazy. i mean there's only one turn before T1 so i dont see how the heck i'm losing over .2 in one turn. and i really cant see how i would go any faster through T2. i dont know what i'm doing wrong.

was underestimating how much time i was going to pull out of my PB... must have had a very slow T2-Finish with it coz i have pulled over a second out of my PB (also made the switch to 300 gearing which worked a treat between T1-T2)

13.798
53.177

lost 0.3 in the last sector so should be able to hit my target by the end of it all...

Holy crap Kelly, you are quick :-)
And Inferno, what are you still doing in Div3 ?
Running mid 54s right now with lots of room for improvement.

Well, here are my first splits, after about 20 laps or so...

RSH tires, 290 gears.

T1: 14.201
T2: 55.168

Edit: Oh, and I've got to agree with Kent -- this is an AWESOME race! Just the right amount of challenge here -- it will absolutely get a '5' vote from me on the poll next week.

Hmm, I'm .052 seconds slower at T1, but .150 seconds faster at T2. This could be a close battle between us two...

Thankyou to who started the leaderboard:cheers:, it made it alot easier:bowdown:.

LeaderBoard Updated

No problem. \I always thought updating during the first few days is the most challenging part, since you have to search for previous splits by that racer...

Tried the combo - it's great fun. Now, to find some time to actually race, that's a whole different matter.

Good afternoon everybody :)

I would like to publicly thank Mr P who took the time to send me a private message with step by step instructions on how to dissassemble my PS2 and clean it's laser. How lucky for all of you to have such a fine man in your midst :). Thanks again Mr P, now I can finally enjoy playing GT4 without being tortured by my PS2 for a half-hour first 👍

I will get started and have some split times tonight 👍

I could use his notes on that. I have a slim one that is causing trouble. can you forward it to me?

This ride feels like a rollercoaster.👍

14.139
53.967

For one undoubtfull reason me and Tokyo have always troubles.
A real love-hate relation.

I was glad to help mate and would offer the same advice / instructions to anyone with a PS2 that just needs a little indepth cleaning 👍

I am afraid the instructions I sent to Final Exam where specifically for the old fat PS2 and not the slimline version! I have not had any need to open a slimline as yet so I can't offer any help ... but I am sure there will be guide for cleaning the slimline laying around somewhere and maybe someone else could link it to here 👍

Here are the step by step details I gave Final Exam for anyone with the old PS2 that may need a quick fix ...

Mr P
No probs mate I cant write up a quick guide for you to clean it up and maybe revive it from the dead

Ok first things first get a precision screwdriver kit with the tiny screw drivers handy and a normal positive screwdriver with a thin shaft also a packet of cotton buds for cleaning.

Step 1 .. Turn the ps2 upside down and you will see 4 rubber squares and some hard plastic squares! .. remove all these to see the screws and unscrew them all to remove the top lid from the console!

Step 2 .. Sit the ps2 lid at the side of the console so as you dont have to remove the power on/off switch

Step 3 .. Take a small positive precision screw driver and unscrew the 4 screws that are holding the lid onto the laser unit and remove it

Step 4 .. Remove the little sony brand plastic cover from the actual laser carefully by clicking it out at one end and the other will follow

Step 5 .. Take a cotton bud and gently clean the eye of the laser until your sure its totally clean

Step 6 .. Gently insert a small matchstick or another cotton bud underneath the laser to prop it up without bursting the springs it balances on ... you should see the reflective lens that sits underneath the laser! This needs cleaning also gently with a cottonbud to be sure no hairs or crumbs of anysort are sitting on it.

Step 7 .. retrace your steps to put it all back together again but dont replace the little sony branded plastic laser cover as your ps2 will work better without it

When you have put the lid on the PS2 make sure the silver taper that is connected to your power on/off and eject button isn't directly under the screw hole next to it .. as I have done it in the past and screwed it all back together and the screw has gone through the silver taper and I had to replace that part

Hope this helps and best of luck with it
Cheers
Ron.

Might be useful to someone else in the same boat 👍

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Slimline's laser already exposed when you open the cover? All you would have to do is just clean it with some rubbing alcohol and a Qtip in that case. The adventure with the old PS2 is just to get TO the laser.

Yep the laser on the slimline is easy access but the reflective lens underneath is a different kettle of fish completely considering it is encased under a fixed metal casing which in most cases is the more likely part of the laser unit that will gather crap and dust etc ... by all means just clean the laser but I think it will need a more thorough clean myself :)

Here's hoping its a 2 second fix anyway 👍

Once I noticed that I was not working at my full potential, I knew it was time to step up my game, so I did:
T1: 14.009 (seen a 13.9xx)
T2: 54.127

Sometimes the apex at turn 2-3 juts out and pushes me into the wall, and in a few places I didn't hit the apex at all. But, I am addicted this week, and am going to try to keep going without breaking my feet/arms/fingers/brain.

funny, i ran this very same combo back in August. Love it

Alright! Now that I have my PS2 working like new, I have had the chance to run QUITE a few laps tonight. If i didn't see the crazy split times I'm seeing on this message board, I probably would have stopped with a much slower time. As it is, I am still light years behind the fastest of you

T1: 13.892
T2: 53.678

I can feel myself getting faster already 👍

Very quickly becoming frustrated with, and losing intrest in this combo. Not sure if i'll be running anymore this week or not.

Don't feel bad, your doing very good right now:). Here's an update.

LeaderBoard Updated

Also on the board are my T's, there is time left but lately I started to lose
interest in GT4. I'm tring to find something else to play but with no luck:(.

Yeah, I think my interest in GT4 is finally waning as well.

Well, I still enjoy it, but participating in online racing is starting to be more of a chore at this point.

This car handles well, but the way it reacts when you lift off the throttle a bit to tighten your line(and it DOESN'T) really bugs me.

I've seen down to a high 53.4, but it's dirty. Played for a couple hours today, then stopped when I kept hitting things.

new splits

14.522 - 55.017

crappy start but very good finish: gained 2.5 secs at the finish!

i agree with kyle that in arcade mode this car reacts very strange to throttle lifts. more gt mode please!

I've never seen better than a 13.85x T1, and even then those are so rare, like 1 in 20. i just cant figure out that first corner. I've seen a few 54.0s but those were all on poor T1's (13.9 - 14.1) so i'm like THIS close to breaking into the 53s but i've been driving the wheels off this thing and no matter what i do i cant seem to get enough velocity to create that wrinkle in the space-time continum thats allowing you guys to pick up an extra second.

[EDIT]
i did see a 53.8 ONCE last night or so, but i blew it in the final sector.

Hey Guys haven't been around for a while! This is actually only my second race. I decided to focus on completing more of the game in my free time then race, but now im back. Anyway, here are my initial splits:
