My splits haven't improved but I am shaving time at the line. I did it twice so far for a total gain of .5

kind of weird, but I guess it's due to improvements taking the chicane. I can see another .3 or so for me since I screwed up the spoon turn...

I need some help with this 'tranny trick' Can someone tell me exactly what you're doing? Did about 20 laps last night, and only dropped of 6 tenths. I've found brakes at 3/3 is much better than at 4/4.

Tranny-trick, from what I know (and what I do):

  1. Move auto-slider to 25
  2. Move final drive to shortest
  3. Move Auto-slider to 1
  4. Adjust final-drive and gears to what you want, but whatever you do, don't change the auto-slider again

Thanks for the tips Gingiba!

One minor thing that you may want to change on the board...under tires, it says COMFORT tires, when in fact the N3's are the ROAD tires, Comfort tires are N2's. Also, my controller has always been a DFP, not a DS2.

I'm having a tough time stomaching being behind 3 seconds at the T2 mark.....

Spent about 30 minutes messing with the suspension, and found the dampers affect handling a lot. Low front bound, equal bound/rebound on the rear seems to do the trick 👍
Also, found a nice gearing, which enables me to use 2nd gear safely on the Casio Triangle and that hairpin...

Yet, Dammit. I keep sliding off-course on that 130R. Yet to find the proper speed/line through it...

Uh-Ah!

1'09.760
2'06.090

With my current setup I can see myself cloggin' out a 2'05.5er. With some tweaking, I might even see the 2'04s!

Man, I WANT TO RACE!!! I don't even work this week yet I don't have time on my hands... Good thing I got some decent time in earlier... Will still wait to hear about setups when I have a couple seconds to do some more laps before the deadline. I'll only have time after driving an actual car though for at least 10 hours, so don't count on much! Unless, somehow, someone makes a break through with suspension tuning on something that "rolls" on blocks of ice.

Yes. Also some front rebound that's as high as if not higher than the other shock settings is good. Other than that though, nothing else is making too much difference. Some rake with the front lower than the rear SHOULD help, but obviously it's not if Brad's going the wrong direction there and going just as fast as I am(was).

And I was just thinking about 'pulling off a Kyle'... (like you did in Week 85)

Jesus, this week feels good. My settings are nearing the point where I mess them up - though, as they are, I need to induce some understeer, since, odd as it may sound, I'm starting to loose time due to the rear swinging out too much!

Yeah...how are you doing that? lol Share your secrets... ;) I'm only having problems with understeer at the hairpin. Nothing's swinging around on me. :P I'm gonna toy with the LSD, though, to see if I can get a tighter response on said hairpin.

Tell me your full settings, QUICK! :) I want some of that too much oversteer to play with...

First clean lap yielded:
T1: 1'10.188
T2: 2'06.551

Never realized how understeery this car was... well, with N3s it's obvious.

Still, I think a good suspension setup is key here, even if it doesn't have much affect.

I'll give them in a day or two when I get them ready. Or perhaps not, I need every advantage I can get in Div2... I'll watch and learn from others, first. I wish that oversteer was transferable. Or even better, if we could give others the understeer we don't need :P

And Kyle, think well about what I meant here:

'pulling off a Kyle'... (like you did in Week 85)

Because I think you can get that oversteer if you think about it like you used to.

My settings look a bit like this right out of my head:

7.0 / 4.8
low-med. rideheight, rear a little higher than front
damper bound 1 / 4
rebound 6/6
camber 0.4 / 3.0
toe 0
stabs 4 / 4
no TCS
LSD 5/24/5

Not a real balanced setup just yet, but capable of some decent times. Faster one might come this weekend. Will post it by then :)

Surprisingly close to what I had, with some minor differences:

  • Front a little higher than the rear, rather than the other way 'round
  • I bumped up the front springrate to around 11.5
  • I lowered the rear springs to the minimum
  • Same damper-balance, just everything 4 ticks higher
  • A little less rear camber, but that was about to change
  • -1 rear toe
  • Stabs at 4/2

And very close for the rest. 5/3 Brake-balance, but that needs tweaking. Mine gives pretty good lift-off and on-throttle oversteer response, but the braking bit needs a sharper turn-in - braking while already turning results in slight understeer, while braking and then turning results in a very neutral car that sticks to the line. Mine are similar to yours, just more extreme... Perhaps a little too much.

I don't really see where I went wrong... I could maybe soften up the front bound some, but still. Unless you mean I should stop acting like it SHOULD need some decent rear springs and just bump up the front and leave the rear behind... :)

And camber, blah, I hate doing things wrong!!! .4/3 is WRONG. I'll have to experiment when I get my late night session. I might give some time today, but dunno if I SHOULD give myself any time today. Gotta prepare for California!

small improvement. shaved another .2
I am beginning to soften the bound settings

1'09.274
2'05.325

Well, I'm defintely a bit tail happier now... But this NASTY understeer right at the apex is NOT fun.

So yeah, obviously I'm playing right now. When I shouldn't be. Thanks guys, it's all your fault! :P

Hugo, your setup is a very good baseline. Some tinkering with the bars at that point actually makes a difference, and it feels like adding rear bar is a good thing at that point, actually increasing oversteer like it would in real life. I'm running a bit stiffer up front though, springs and bound as well, rebound is 7/6 to in theory help reduce weight transfer to the back. Allowing some more by going back to 6/6 may be a good thing at some parts of the track though.

Meh.

Well, just FYI, I still suck. Especially on N3 tires. :dopey:

T1: 1'10.626
T2: 2'08.185

Oh, and great song choice for the vid! Bobby Darin is awesome!

Gave this a go last night, very addictive. Setup is not 100% yet but I sure did make some progress with it. The softer my settings were the better traction I had.

My splits:

1.08.5
2.04.3

All the time is to be found in my driving, I am not 100% with this one! Last night i was struggling with 2.06's and thought that there was no waay it could be that bad!! I then realised that I didn't have the racing flywheel or triple clutch, talk about not with the program. I hope I don't race like this this weekend.

1'08.989
2'05.015

My previous splits of the night were .1 faster on both sectors, but this total time was .05 faster.

Div2
DFP

This combo is sure making my thumb hurt :ouch:

I'm still in two minds about NA V Turbo. Just when I think the turbo is the root to take, I switch to NA and end up undecided because they both offer certain advantages, but in different areas on the track. The killer area for me is the tight left turn just after T1. It's do or die there for sure. :grumpy:

1'07.927
2'03.693

I'm going to let my thumb have a rest over the weekend and try to get one more session in on Monday (work permitting).

Got a better final with a tiny improvement at T2 last night, using the turbo. I still have to try NA soon.

0'17.908
2'03.538

Spent pretty much all of last night working on settings and have improved the car at least 2 second maybe 3; so these splits are hopefully nowhere close to what I can end up with

T1 1:09.781
T2 2:06.574

1'08.989 / 2'05.015 My previous splits of the night were .1 faster on both sectors, but this total time was .05 faster.

Damn, just when I thought I had something going here... Great splits Sean. :scared:

Thanks dude, I must admit though, I've spent alot of time on this one.... Since I race a FWD car on street tires.....this challenge is just what I'm used to.... Although my Neon doesn't understeer quite as much, and isn't as fast in a straight line. :sly:

Umm... Is it just me, or is this week very, very dead? No new replies for 36 hours, with the last actual set of splits being over 48 hours old...

Though, I'm still working on the setup. Not much time, and I still can't nail a whole lap, but it's improving. Might even live to see a low 2'05...

I hope my settings can bring this week back to life again 💡

Brake balance: 10 / 8
Spring rate: 12.0 / 4.6
Ride height: 118 / 118
Damper (bounce): 2 / 8
Damper (rebound): 8 / 8
Camber angle: 0.4 / 3.0
Toe angle: 0 / 0
Stabiliser: 6 / 6

1st gear: 2.417
2nd gear: 1.831
3rd gear: 1.482
4th gear: 1.242
5th gear: 1.058
6th gear: 0.921
Final: 3.700

Driving aids: 0 / 0 / 0

Still using turbocharger. Going for my last session now :)
