Great thread and should become a stickie in my opinion.

I see all these online series which I want to pick the right ones to join (dependent on my times and availablity), and having these lists will help me understand each group / class of car, rather than scouring through the threads.

Thanks, wish I could be of some additional use to this, but still too novice in understanding most classes.

Great work 👍👍👍

@TurboProp : yeah,i know RX-7 LM Race Car,RX-8 Concept LM Race Car,Camaro LM Race Car does exist in the game, but after googled i cant find a proper explanation to their respective class/race in real life.are they just fantasy car?

@Knelly : thanks for the good words, appreciated it 👍:) no worries,we are all here to share our knowledge,im still a newb too,so i hope this helps u understand more, although it still needs touches..

S Gillet Vertigo Race Car '04
P Lamborghini Miura P400 Bertone Prototype CN.0706 '67
S Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car '98
S Suzuki ESCUDO Dirt Trial Car '98

Lets see what we can do with some of these.

The Alfa I think would be a Historic sports car possibly along with the Honda S800 HSC race car. The Corvette would be a Historic GT. I'm not sure if its still fast enough to go into the Historic Le Mans. Its not a prototype style car.

The Gillet could go into the GT1 class. It was only in GT Invitational in FIA GTs.

The Miura and R390GT1 Road Car aren't race cars so would be in a supercar class if you need to classify them.

The Escudo would be in its own Dirt Trial Class.

The Lexus IS200 GT1 Race Car is a Korean Touring Car.

I like the way you've reorganized the first post man. Keep up the good work!

Thumbs up, best thread I have encountered here for a while!

Btw, can somebody explain to me why the Z06 RM is listed as a GT1 and the ZR1 RM as a GT2?

Nice work!
A few corrections though:
The BMW M3 GTR raced in the ALMS, participated in the N24 and 24hrs of Spa-francorchamps. In ALMS it raced under GT2 banner.

The Camaro you have labelled as GT1 was, as stated, raced in Trans-Am GT1, wich is not exactly the same as FIA GT1 or LM GT1. Strictly speaking, it´s based on a tubeframe chassis rather than the real chassis from a roadcar, wich has always been a requirement for GT1 (and GT2 and GT3), and would never have been allowed to race at Le Mans or in any FIA sanctioned race.

Why are people mentioning the R390 roadcar in same breath as the Toyota GT-One racecar? Not comparable at all!

Alfa- historic factory-built conversion by Zagato
Chevy C2- SCCA/a Prodcution and historic FIA GT3?
Gillet Vertigo- FIA GT (need more info)
Lambo- that's just a road car
Nissan R390- GT1 class of past Le Mans
Suzuki Escudo- Pikes Peak Climb

Hope that clarifies.

You could add a time attack with the HKS CT230R. It would be great if more TA cars were modeled for the next game.
there is a class for it?sorry, never heard of that.ill google it later and slip in the list if its appropriate.thank mate :)

yeah,i agree about those historic race car.i think they are just race cars, not classified for certain championship or so.but correct me if im wrong, please :scared:

thanks for the info about the Vertigo, slipped into GT1.cant find about it on the net :indiff: i dont want to put supercars category as GT5 loads with lots of them,Ferrari Lambo Merc etc. and if i put,the OP alone will take the whole first page of the thread LOL

Wow just imagine if PD added 10 or 20 races for each class

Lets make this happen !!
hahaha LOL.im not even completed the Beginner series of A-Spec so i couldnt care less, but it would be fun i guess, considering majority of the race dont restrict appropriate car class for the race, what a shame :ouch:

both are the base for C5-R successor,C6-R.u can find more HERE (although it's just Wiki,it clear things up for me.hope it's same with u :))
and, thanks for the good words 👍:)

HERE : it states that it was classified as FIA GT3.im not familiar with ALMS,but if u have proof, ill move it to GT2.as of now ill leave it there,as im more into FIA classification.

Camaro GT1 : so,where should i put it in?or it does not belong in this list?

maybe they are talking about R390 race car?

Alfa- historic factory-built conversion by Zagato
Chevy C2- SCCA/a Prodcution and historic FIA GT3?

Alfa - it just a sports racing car then
C2 RC - ill put in historic race car then
Vertigo - classed in GT1
R390 - that's race version.this road version's just a supercar i guess
Escudo - will dig more into that later

anyway, thanks for all the info and good words.glad everyone willing to contribute to this list :) all appreciated, guys :)

Nice idea, I've been talking about things like these lately with some friends after many online problems with guys racing cars we had warned them not to use due to them being overpowered or even race cars vs road cars.
I really wish this would happen, but not only for race cars, for road cars too. I can't be that difficult and, if I remember correctly, even GT3 had something like this.

Well, GT2 wasn´t called GT2 at the time, only GT, and was a subcategory to GTS, wich later became GT1. http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/2001/Road_Atlanta-2001-10-06-042.jpg, so not GT3 at least!

The Camaro in the game has some similarities with real racecars, and would neatly slot in in GT1, so if were you, I´d leave it there.

About the Gillet; Gillet Vertigo raced in GT2 during it´s entire lifespan. First in the BPR and then in FIA GT.

if road cars are going to be categorized,i could only think of supercar, but game is loaded with loads of them and some are not clear weither they are just sports car or supercar or hypercar.there's no clear line to separate all of them.anyway, thanks for the good words and glad i could help :)

yeah Mt Lynx,i forgot the fact that GT3 and GT4 are new categories.considering it is 2001 version of the car,so i should agree with u.sorry for providing inaccurate fact, man :indiff: i see the Gillet have massive amount of power (913HP),so i thought it would be appropriate to slot it into GT1,but i know for a fact that u have more knowledge,so ill stick with with u :)

thanks man,u helped a lot! 👍:)

Well it is true that there are a lot of road cars in GT5, but there could be some wide categories such as "Compacts", "Classics", "Sedans", "Sports cars", etc. Then, inside of each category have sub-categories. For example, I choose to race with "Level 1 Sedans", from which I can choose sedans with <200 Hp. Then there's "Level 2 Sedans", and so on.
I really think online gameplay could be vastly improved if a car class system was included in the game. That, and proper matchmaking system Call of Duty style, with several types of races and stuff like that, but that's another league I guess :)
I'm liking this thread, nice job and let's hope this idea makes its way into GT5 :D

Yeah Vertigo was in the GT2G (GT2 Guest) class. I went by the power figures when suggesting putting it in GT1. I think it would be a bit fast in GT2. But with that ZR-1 RM in there it might be different.

I personally would put the '90s GT1 cars (Merc CLK LM, McLaren F1 GT-R, Nissan R390 GT1 and Panoz GTR-1) into their own catagory seeing as they are closer to Prototype cars, but thats up to you.

Thank you!
The Gillet in the game is also supercharged, wich the real Vertigo never has been. I´d say that even if the GT5 Vertigo has some common looks with the real racecars, it´s purely fantasy. Powerwise it has more in common with group C cars than GT1, wich never had more than around 600bhp on track, thanks to restrictors. And that goes for the late 90´s aswell as today. Unrestricted is a different story though.

That's a great idea too 👍 I really like that matchmaking system, and i think most of us want them to be in the game, make things more interesting :) Thanks for the all the good words and your support 👍 All appreciated :)
Suzuki ESCUDO Dirt Trial Car '98 will go In hillclimb
Class added,thanks :)

All thos '90s cars were built as prototype car in mind but they exploited GT1 rules and fitted them in there. Yeah, I'm on borad with u on the Vertigo, man. Thanks :)
Thank you!

I don't know what they are waiting for, they found time to fix the "online glitch" which I couldn't care less but not for this...

Pagani Zonda R and Amuse S2000 GT1, Could go in GT1 class
TVR Speed 6 RM in GT2

Urgh, i don't like the sound of that, all they need to do is add, some RM mods, to GT1 type cars, and im gonna be happy. Db9, r35, Ford GT, lambo SV. And transfer some to premium.

DB9 + RM --> DBR9 would be nice addition.or even DBRS9 :indiff:
