The main problem with it is that is was good in prolouge and someone broke it..

No one broke it, cars with paddles had no shifting animation at all in Prologue, except for the F1. GT5 will feature rather realistic shifting animations without it being "laggy" or too glitchy.

Although, I am also confused why the X1 doesn't use a F1 shifter.

I was more commenting on the whole "its not a (insert problem here) simulator, its a driving simulator"
Its not a camera simulator either but we sure get a good photomode,
Its not a weather simulator, but we sure get some great weather,
etc,etc...
As soon as a negative issue is raised, it dosnt matter becasue its not a (whatever negative issue is) simulator.

I personaly think the shifting animation is a bit akward looking, I thought the whole point of paddle shifters was so you didn't need to take your hand of the wheel.

You have to if you are steering and shifting at the same time in almost all road cars with paddles, because they are not fixed to the wheel like in a F1 car. If PD would've done that, the hand would glitch through the wheel or move unrealistically fast everytime you shift while steering. The system they implemented is the perfect compromise.

That's the main problem I think. Im all ok if it will stay that way, but this could be repaired easily .

Hell Yeah.

This is exactly what I'm saying. Are there any real differences between the wheel's shape of the F1 car the one of the X1? I believe the paddles and the steering angle are the same.

When Jeremy Clarkson shifts in the Caparo T1 I don't think he takes his hands off the wheel. Let's be more specific: thumbs. It would be incredibly stupid to do so, since there must be some very powerful force feedback.

I don't know where's the problem with keeping the animation of the F12007 (video is on top of this page)

Its a fine compromise yes, and it looks fine if the player is turning, but when the car is on a straight it looks weird, or those times when its anticipating a shift change the hand could be off the wheel for several seconds which again looks weird,
Of course it could be worse, and this is better than glitching through a wheel.

the shifting animation is not awkward. most cars have paddles attached to the steering column and do not move as the wheel moves but the f1 paddles are on the back of the wheel.

But still yo don't need to take the hand off the wheel to shift. Especially if you drive straight.

what do you suggest happen when someone decides to shift when the wheel is turned 90 deg. stretch his finger to reach.

Probably take his hand off the wheel,
Would you suggest they do the same when driving straight with the paddle easily with the drivers reach?

I think that's the primary point of the new animation. To let the players know that it's time to consider shifting gear so we don't have to rely on the RPM indicators alone. In Prologue it was kind of hard to look both at the road and dashboard RPM gauge as it was blurry in most car interiors. Alternatively we had the generic digital unit in the bottom right corner of each car but it was distracting to look at this part of the screen while keeping focus on the driving line. Therefore, the hand off the wheel is a welcome compromise.

Wow, great excuse to tell the police next time I'm being pulled over for speeding.
"Sorry officer, I didn't know I was going that fast, thing is looking at the speedo distracts me from focussing on the driving line".

A few pages ago, people were talking about the car delivery thing, i haven't read all the pages but what if it can be used to deliver/receive cars won/lost in races or dragraces? Wouldn't that be cool?

-"Hey, i bet i can beat you on this track even if your car is much better!"
-"What? keep dreamin' pal"
-"Ok, wanna bet? If i win, I get the car"

I know, i shouldn't be a writer but you get the point :)

Since we're getting a "highway" track, it's probably not too far from reality!
I wonder if GT5 will also try to cater to Tokyo Xtreme fans.
