Sony is a company, a rather large company and yeah, you'd think they could sort this out and be straight with us, but let's face it, it's a complicated business getting a computer game made and put out there, especially in the scale that this release will be. I believe the main theory that PD missed the production schedule by 3 days, maybe it was because of new firmware tey had to put on the disc, maybe something else. Whatever, they missed the production deadline and re-arranging a new production schedule, not just printing blu-rays, but also rearranging all of their original shipping plans, and whatever else comes from that, well basically it's a nightmare. It's not just a case of PD saying, "Game's complete", and Sony going "Yay, it'll be in shops tomorrow!"

It's a HUGE logistical challenge, and frankly I expect Sony simply did not know, would not know until really, the game has been made (in the millions) and is on it's way to shops. Maybe as a result of all this there is not enough copies to satisfy demand all over the world and I would not be surprised if there's some regions/countries which receive less than they should to satisfy bigger regions. That would be unfortunate, but I see everyone who wants a copy of this game by Xmas having a copy. I think to believe that there is another huge delay imminent is really letting pessimism get the best of them. It's been a long wait, we're all mega excited to get our hands on the finished game, but it will happen soon. None of us can know the intentions and challenges of running a multi-national corporation, saying "they lied to us" is forgetting all companies lie, habitually, most of the time not even on purpose either. They gain nothing from it but all this bad publicity.

If it does not get released this year, then Kaz will get more time to work on it. And we all know what that means. He will never want to stop working on it and we will not see a release until after 2011.

Thats what I'm afraid. If it gets delayed to March 2011, I'm sure the work will continue, and then one thing will lead to another we'll find our self in the same position next year as we are right now.

To get off this topic slightly... I just looked at that official Red Bull blog about the X1... has anyone noticed it says:

"It’s the first and fastest car that players of the eagerly-awaited Gran Turismo 5 video game will drive."

It's the first car we will drive in the game...??? That seems pretty clear it's the first car we will drive.. I wonder if/how/why that might be the case.

I highly doubt that. I'm sure its a type, or a translation mistake. We have seen plenty of those from sites regarding GT in the past. Besides, hasn't PD said that we start the career with the karts.

I was a bit surprised to see that, and I'm sure it could be a mistake, maybe not quite what they meant to say. I also thought it might be like some games where they actually start off by showing you the ultimate powers you can get, before shoving you back to square one again (can't think of the game, but there's something like this, nothing to do with racing games though). It was just interesting and from looking through a few pages I'd not seen anyone else mention it, just wanted to discuss what it might mean.

There's also this on the official website

The dream of creating the fastest racing car ever has been realized thanks to the collaboration between Polyphony Digital and Red Bull Racing. Experience the power of the X1 in the "X1 Challenge," part of Gran Turismo 5, the first driving lesson ever in Gran Turismo to be given by a top professional driver.

We know that Sebastian Loeb and Jeff Gordon also have driving lessons in GT5. So the wording there makes it seem like it's something that you do right off the bat, which of course would play into what KopparbergDave posted.

Ya, I think god of war 2 had you start off with kratos having his godly powers acquired at the end of GOD1 but they get stripped for disobeying the gods.

Underground 2 started you with a modified 350Z that you could run up to 3 races with.
Forza 3 starts you out with a Audi R8 for the first race then you are reduced to a cheap little pos to start your career.

The X1 being the first GT5 car we drive was pointed out a couple of days ago. It sounds like what T10 did with the R8 in FM3.

So is it safe to say that if we don't hear anything soon, there's no chance in hell that it's coming out before the end of 2010.

I'd say so. It's sort of like when you meet someone. They're late. When you call and ask them how far they are and they say "uh... I don't know. Let me call you back." That's usually a bad sign.

I'm not sure I want to start out driving a car with 1500hp or whatever that thing has. Getting used to new/harder physics for the first time with 1500hp sounds like a recipe for disaster.

I'd rather start out with 150hp and by the time I get the X-1 I'll be able to drive it correctly.

Not sure if turn 10 intended to do that anyway or if that was all part of the Audi deal they have.

I always thought starting the game like that was a cool way of introducing the player to the game world.

I absolutely hate it.

They have gotten the benefit of the doubt to many times now.

Only because the game was delayed? The game was ready to be released on November 2nd but obviously something happened that caused the delay. Do you honestly believe that they'll delay the game on purpose?

Liars should be exposed and put to trial. I have defended Sony and playstation many times, but not anymore. Write an article and maybe more medias will follow.

I think you're confusing Sony and Playstation with another company. You know, the one that gets away with everything they do. Again, only because the game was delayed makes them liars and should be exposed? That made me laugh. Thanks for the entertainment.

Being it GT, more than likely we'll have to begin with the license tests. Perhaps Virtual Vettle will give us lessons on basic driving skills? Still, starting off in the X1 it does seem rather outrageous?

Virtual Loeb would be a damn boring pilot :/

The X1 would be an extreme car to start with. Hopefully if that is the first car you drive it will be on the daytona oval or another simple track. Would be a beast on the full ring track could take days of practice just to keep in on the road.

In the Red Bull site there is also an article "Top ten racing games" that mentions GT5 will have 70 tracks and 20 cars. 20 cars?

X1 being the first car? I don't think so. The only way this is possible if its available in arcade mode, the A licence or if the X1 event challenge doesn't require a specific licence to participate in. I honestly believe that the person writing that made a foolish mistake with his/her words.
