I think old cars and tracks only remastered HD nothing more.
IT means PD must release GT5 asap! They did only physics from scratch. 5 years has passed.. we got HD resolution? i m fine with it but its not right to delay this game again..If you wont give real damage dynamic weather very detailed tracks what we waiting for? dont trip anywhere just give me that game!!!

Tracks maybe, cars no. I can't comment on other tracks being kept in from GT4, the ring is definitely the same model. Others I haven't really compared. But the cars are all new models. GT4's car modesls were mainly made up from a single mexsh, ie the whole body of the car was one wireframe. GT5's cars are modelled in parts, the bumpers, doors, bonnet etc are all moddled as seperate components. This allows a: for damange to losses or knock off completely certain parts (bumpers, bonnets etc) wherelicensing will allow and b: for interchangable parts. This in turn allows two things a: customisable body panels part by part rather than a whole new wireframe for each body kit and b: it makes PD's task of creating car variations even easier than it was since they can edit individual parts rather than fiddling with the car as a whole.

Kaz talked about the modelling used for GT5's cars a good while back and I remember him saying that in the past, gaps in the bodywork like between the wings and bonnet were textured on, in GT5 they are actual gaps.

Now we wait for someone to say "Bad recording quality" or "XXXX game sounds better". Or maybe even "That doesn't sound like the real thing".

You guys really hate if someone whips you out of your starry eyed illusions coming from wishful thinking, don't you? I can hear lot of noise and car sound that don't deserve even one letter.

Many of us are realists and although we love GT maybe more than you can imagine, we can still hear that V8 sound has the same poetry as artificial flowers again and tree almost touching your car with its branches in one of the corners in our beloved new sequel will be exactly the same cardboard as five years ago on that slightly better pocket calculator called PS2.

It's more than time to learn living with truth. And truth about GT5 is they overdeveloped cars and brutally underdeveloped just everything other. Every car obtained half a million polygons but track obtained just five or so. This have been obvious already in previous GT's but now it's more flagrant than ever. And defending that PS3 can't handle it is hopeless, because if they lowered car polygon number to 80k, we'd hardly notice it and at the same time it would be so nice not to see curvature of a turn on the racing track made of four or five straight lines or closest forest made of nasty cutout.

Uhhh, you know that modeling these days is done at insane levels of detail, right? This then gets brought down to the required poly level, tidied up, packaged and shipped. Bosh!

What's happened here is PD has gone back to that original model and re-packaged it for the PS3

In fact, for some reason I'm absolutely convinced of this. I seem to remember something like this being said not long before GT4 was released, about how they're modelling everything in such a way that it could be used for the next generation...

What little we have seen from PD does not justify 5 years development. Even a new physics engine can not justify it. An obsessive level of car detail shouldn't take this long, but it may have. I honestly think PD has been working in a bubble and gone back to add/modify features as other games proved better in some areas. The longer it takes to release, the higher the fan base expectations, the more likely it is to disappoint.

I think having 3 different models for Race/Replay, Cockpit and for Showcase is a smart compromise - anyway disk space doesn't matter on this time and polys itself using few RAM.3d trees will be great.
But anyway we need some direct-feed vids to see worth it or not.

Fine, but imagine what they'd been creating inside that bubble all along! No wait, forget that - you'll just get excited again. I don't want to be the reason you commit suicide when GT5 surfaces :dopey:

Uh, yeah... it's called Level Of Detail

But at the same time I know that PD are smart guys. And they are using PS3 advantages.(much calculation power but not enough memory bandwidth).Textured tracks and especially trees using more memory bandwidth (it's really important because of 60fps) than maybe half-million cars.(GeForce doing something like "LOD" by itself). But I don't really sure...

GT5 wont come to surface. i convinced with it. This delay helps to decrease respect to PD. 1000 cars to excessive for the first PS3..As i said before it doesnt necessary 500k polygon per car and 1000 cars.. Kazunori produces GT5 for MAYAs. He can put 1000 cars to GT6 with alot of Licenced series. But he didnt. he will have been beaten himself this time. If you make something from scratch you must not put a lot contents in.Your priority must be showcase of PS3 to first GT for PS3. Take your perfectionism and implement to GT6 . I dont need cosmetic damage really.i prefer mechanical damage. who did say to kazunori \we want perfect damage\ ? there is another problem is we saw anything about GT5.. if it s BEST looking real driving simulator why dont you show something? Boxart is ready but it has not even release date. The people say GT5 prologue uses diifferent engine! why did they use different code? did they wasted their times? GTHD different GT5p different I think PD s mind complex in this generation..

There is no doubt with each day that passes, the expectations rise. Personally, for me, I expect greatness, but the greatness cannot stretch forever.

So I wonder two things:

1. WTF are they really doing right now? Do they really think they can make this game perfect? Because if so, it can never happen, and us fans should realize that. It's ok, PD release it! We understand you enjoy perfection, but it doesn't HAVE to be so.

2. When did they really begin to work hard on GT5? Did GT PSP have a big of an impact as I had first thought? If so, thumbs down to Sony.👎 GT5>>>>>GT PSP in ever imaginable way.

If you guys think you can do better a 512 meg total shared machine, by all means get a dev team together and try. So far no one has been able to on the PS3

Do you remeber how the games we had back in the 512 meg PC days were? Try and get a PC game to run on 512 megs these days...

Taken in that light PD have done great. Of that 512 meg, 50+ is taken by the OS that is always running (XMB). A fair chunk by the video card and about 300+ is left

And the PS2 has 16 megs total shared between video and CPU!

@patriotzero
Yes yes yes.But enough is enough. We all know that GT5 in not just a game. And PD knows that.Sony knows.Almost all PS3 users are waiting for GT (even not hardcore racers).I mean if it will be new assassins creed it will be not so painful to wait.I just want to know "why" they do it with us! :)))
As for damage - i only need good collision damage (Forza 2 is good one) to prevent myself doing GOLD in licenses by hitting the walls or opponents...

The reason why PD released GT5P almost 2 years ago. GTHD is a step above GT4 in term of graphics (hence the HD moniker) and Prologue was improvement over GTHD in that the physics was new and the addition of 15 AI cars, additional tracks, improvement in graphics (cockpit view etc.) and the first foray into online racing. Obviously, PD wanted the fans to be aware of the developmental stages of GT5.

i bought 2 ps3s for GT ones warrantys is over the other will over too this is so funny and so annoying. If you talk about perfection it wont be real or wont release Whatever you do never comes. Kazunori makes light bulbs letters but when we asked about skidmarks he laughs whats it?
Who can see the bulbs letters? but everyone can see skidmarks.. They are only concentrated on Car modelling. Kazunori said 65 percent part of our GT5 development time..Is it game or Car showdown. my expectations are mechanical damage accurate physics engine parts too many technical issue about GT5. it seems like Gt5 developed for Car manufactures to show Technology or something else.Pd need to make more than apologize.Maybe Beta or a new demo. i am not interested in other games,,,FPS games are everywhere, i have not ever played too much till nextgen/ Everyone played GT5 without GT fans.Sorry Guys i m kinda angry abit.

Edit : i disagree gt5p is showcase of PS3. it has alot missing things. damage Online structure etc.

You'd rather have had a game with GTHD's graphics (Somewhere between GT4 and Prologue, though closer to prologue), GT4s tracks and maybe 200 cars? Because they could have done that a long time ago. It would have given you no more fun than GT4 did, aside from everything being a bit newer.

Plus, the high poly car models are infact so high they need not be any higher. With the next GT games on PS3 and PS4, there won't need to be any improvement, the models for 1000 cars are there as a base, as a minimum. The cars are rumoured to be around 500k polys. I suspect they are downscaled when ingame too. It means they can be improved with absolutely no effort for future titles.

GT4 took so long to develop because GT3 was such a half assed attempt, it was an unfinished game, put on sale to showcase graphics for the new console. It meant everything had to be upped for GT4.

PD didn't want to make the same mistake twice. They want GT6 to be an easy/quick game to create, so they're putting so much effort into GT5. A lot of that work will carry over to GT6.

do you realy think there will be a gt6 ? to me gt5 seems to be a swan song for ky and pd if it has dlc then whats the point in doing a 6 !!

While I understand your frustration, this thread is probably more approriate for this kind of outburst :) https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=125318

PS. if you don't like FPS, might I suggest Heavy Rain- there're cars though you don't actually drive them but the game itself is quite compelling.

Video from the Tokyo Auto Salon. It looks to be a Lexus ISF time trial, there is a ghost of an ISF shown there, on what is probably the final GT5 version of Fuji. Yep it sounds like a V8 - finally! :)

BTW did anyone notice the lack of wheelspin/bounce off the limiter when the guy drove off in first gear? Now that's a change for the better 👍
The IS-F certainly has enough torque vs the 370z used in the time trial

Maybe physics/tyre model has changed a great deal, from the Time Trial....

He wasn't giving it full throttle or the TC was kicking in so there is no wheelspin. It was in auto mode so why would it bounce off the limiter? Unless, autos did that before?

50% throttle to 30km and then full throttle after that. Try that on the Normal 370Z in the time trial with a steering wheel and you will get wheel spin like all the GT games that have gone before. It's like they have a electric motor

pretty sure he's using manual, as he downshifted into reverse by mistake as he spun

TT was pro physics with no/low TC, wasn't it? We don't know what the setting were in the vid. No point getting yours and others hopes up over speculations.

You can shift auto into reverse. He used the shifter to get into reverse but when he's driving he isn't using the shifter and his hand isn't moving so he isn't using the paddles.

yes, and the traction control is off with the wheel on the Normal 370z

The GT tyre model has always lacked accleration grip. You have mid engine cars spinning their wheels all the way up to 4th gear sometimes!
Mid engine means tons of extra weight over rear wheel and so more grip.

So hopefully they have finally fixed this!

It's auto actually. It went from 3rd to reverse and you can only do that by pressing triangle.

has anybody seen the new psm3 mag in the uk? It says 3D is definate, which is the cause of the delay also headtracking is in. Regarding damage they say you can roll some cars. Custom playlist is in. And it will be on 3 discs , there is more info but think its either old news or they are just guessing
