I still dont understand the purpose of the data logger.

It shows you where you wnet wrong, can help with setup of the car, can help with setting gearing, an show another driver where he is going wrong or where you are faster than him/her. Lots of uses really, used in motorsport extensively.

ammm so what options are there for the passage of time, is it a slider or what? In what increments can you set the speed of time? Real time to x2 x3 x5 x5 x10... How does that work?

Here's an odd bit of info:

For the past few weeks, I saw ads for GT5 in many different circulars/fliers, ranging from Sears to Target to Toys R Us. This weekend, I checked, and you know how many circulars were advertising GT5? .... ZERO. Talk about a marketing/advertising breakdown. It seems Sony's really banking on Black Friday to sell their game in the US market. I hope it works for their sake (actually more for the sake of the progression of the series). But, it's almost like they shot themselves in the foot, and all with no effort at all.

I can’t agree more. Even worse- I just got back from a local Gamestop store and one of the two guys working there (when asked about the game), informed me that the game is coming out on the 31 of December!!! At that point the other jumped in and said that the game has been delayed until January. When I mentioned that their website has posted as the release date the 24 of November they looked at me like I was crazy. Finally a third guy came from the back of the store and confirmed what I just said.
Should we call this “lack of advertising”? Should we call this lack of ….what?

Yep!

By the way here's an example (@ 3:30 and 7:28....but look the entire video. Top Gear is always Top Gear :sly:👍)

I still dont understand the purpose of the data logger.

It is used so you can technically review your laps.
When you look at the data, related to the part of the circuit, you can see that you were braking too early for a corner, if after you release the brakes you have a couple milliseconds of non-acceleration nor braking. It might show you are losing grip in your form of approach of a turn, and reviewing that data you can find ways to drastically reduce your lap times, both changing your driving line and braking points and also altering your car setup.

I've seen the Kevin Butler commerical on 3 different stations this evening. My brother called me up as well when he saw it, knows what a big fan of the game I am.

It's to analyze whats the car is doing on the track and how you are driving.

Especially how you drive if you have a car that you can't setup. I hope that you can submit logger data to someone else to have a look at and give you advice. The coolest part would be to be able to look at it in real-time as a race director in an endurance race with only human drivers, but that's not going to happen I'm afraid. If the data logger is comprehensive enough you should be able to have a look and see how you can improve the car, but then you need a PHD in car setup and knowledge how real loggers work :)
(I still can't wrap my head around howto do a setup, even less analyzing a log file in Motec)

Wow, I knew Canadians paid a little bit more for games (usually $10 more) but that dood in France who paid 70 euros in the GTP news - that's $98 CDN/$95 USD. Damn that's a lot just for a regular game.

Australia gets raped the worst I've seen though - probably over $130 Australian dollars and our dollar is about on par with them.

Guess that $100 collectors edition wasn't so bad after all. Too bad I have accounting final on Thursday - hopefully I can take work off Friday and Monday as vacation.

It was taking a look at international prices for GT and I realized there's a lot of difference from country to country.

In Brazil, for an example, the games are priced at 180 to 200 Reais, and its exchange rate to the US$ is of 1 Brazil real = 0.58309 U.S. dollars, which means that BR$190 = US$110, even worse than it is for the Aussies (who don't really pay 110 bucks for their games, GT5 costs about 80 bucks in most Internet stores).

I imagine how it might be for players in smaller economies with overtaxed imports...

I'm so excited cuz i pre ordered gt5 today and its coming this week!!! My psn is WSTITAN24 if anyone wants to play any gt5 in the future SO FRICKEN EXCITED!!!!!! lol See you on the track.

Hi GT-IS_FUN-24, please remember to use complete sentences and grammar when posting per the AUP you accepted when signing up, thanks.

Same here man! while on the DLC & australia topics how good would it be for new model standard commodore & falcon models to get in. While PD are over here testing them, they can go to Bathurst, see the awesomeness of V8 supercars and chuck em in... i would pay $40 for 4 factory cars, a track, and 2 cars with 8 liveries each... if only plane tickets were cheaper and Kaz cared a bit more for one of their smallest markets :(:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

Haha I they really should take better care of their smallest market! Yeah I would pay that much just to have the SS, XR6T, GTS, and the GT or F6. I was really hoping some would be in, but it looks like they have gotten rid of the FPV's? cant see them on the car list. Weird.

Oh my goodness! My favourite video so far!

Woahh this is the biggest spoiler ever.. love this video. Damn as if the night racing wasn't impressive enough, those fireworks leave a sparkle in my eye to hold this game in my hand this very minute.

Oops, sorry if I spoiled something for you. :(

Every night racing video I've seen so far includes fireworks, I really hope it's not gonna be like that every race, because it's really cool if it happens unexpectedly, but if it starts happening every race it'll just be annoying.

That's what I was thinking. Driving a 600+ HP Lambo at insane speeds over the twisties at night dodging traffic with no map and all of a sudden...

BIG FIREWORK BOOM....

Then Samuel L Jackson saying, "sorry, did I brake your concentration?".

Hahaha. Exactly! - except for the part with "dodging traffic". This is Gran Turismo, in GT, we don't really do that -

What, nobody finds this funny? :(

Why did you quote yourself? If someone wanted to comment on it they would have or they will you don't have to quote yourself in hopes of getting someone to comment on your post. That's almost as bad as those people that beg for thumbs ups on their comments on Youtube. And no it's not funny especially for the people in toronto(where the trucks were stolen):dunce:
