They work!
Main points of interest from interview:
- That there are a string of games that try to be like GT is the biggest surprise of Kaz's career: "We wanted to make something completely different, now we're mainstream"
- There's mention of the fact that the people at PD play games "constantly", and how Kaz always looks at other games from his designer's viewpoint - he likes to know how other developers "define" their games.
- He describes his passion for driving, the way the car is directly under his control, as though he were controlling it with his thoughts, as though it were an extension to his body
- He has no official plans for other games, but ideas whizz around his head all the time. He really, really wants to make a completely different game.
- PS3M: But right now Gran Turismo is your life?
Kaz: It would seem that way! The work is fun, even though I've been so concentrated on this one thing for all these years.
On a test drive with GT5: "A pair of cars collide and occasionally [headlamps] fall off (need clarification here...) and the bumper swings over the road, throwing up sparks."
It's unclear whether other [AI] cars' handling is affected by the damage, or if it's just external [i.e. superficial].
Damage brings the realism to greater heights: greater need for precision driving, as it's easier to be knocked off-line by contact and braking zone "ramming" is no longer so profitable, apparently.
Differences between Prologue and the full game are small - the main difference is with the controls. However, it should be easy to transition from one game to the other, despite the inclusion of damage and the "upgraded" physics.
Of the collision and damage effects: "It seems so realistic, fascinating and dynamic - as though you were watching the most spectacular moments from an entire season of Touring-car racing all condensed into a few minutes." (more hyperbole?)
The AI appears just as aggressive as in GT5

, but perhaps are less shy about making contact - despite this, they appear to drive in a "fair" manner.
It can be difficult to concentrate on making ground on your opponents, what with the framework of damage, driving physics and "environment simulation" effecting a near-hypnotic effect. (there they go again...)
They hope the online features work well...
More corroboration for the transfer of garage cars from GT5 to GT

SP.
Doesn't seem like they really know anything more than anybody else - their impressions are probably formed from one of the show demos, like everybody else.
1967 is the year of Kaz's birth, by the way
