Toyota working on Playstation-compatible track day black box for Scion FR-S

Toyota and Subaru are expected to make a decision soon on whether to put a convertible version of the GT86/BRZ rear-wheel-drive sports car into production.

Toyota GT86 project engineer Tetsuya Tada confirmed that a convertible version of the car was “technically feasible”. Given the engineering work already undertaken and the likely popularity of an open-top version, particularly in California, a production convertible is almost inevitable, and could possibly be on sale as early as 2014.

Toyota is keen to maintain its promising early sales momentum with a series of model variations and performance pack offerings. “We have not seen a third of the development planned for the GT86,” said Tada.

A black-box telemetry system is one of the developments, which can be retro-fitted to cars. It will record data from track days and allow drivers to compare their performance with other owners by downloading data onto PlayStations. They can also download online tutorials and demos, and Toyota engineers are currently mapping major tracks to note the GT86’s behaviour.

Getting the telemetry scheme signed off by Toyota’s conservative board wasn’t easy, according to Tada, but was aided by the keenness of enthusiast boss Akio Toyoda, who sampled the developing GT86 every month.

3 more days to E3. And developers are showing trailers like crazy this all week. Let´s hope to see something about Sony which is the one that is not showing so much content as the others.

Deleted, due to the guy of the video over at YOUTUBE finding out his video was posted here and believed I got trolled. :grumpy:

Not my problem, cuz the truth is no one cared about it and its OFF my bookmark list. Haha!

What would ensure the Scion being added and not the Subaru? They are all the same, are they not? (Besides cosmetics)

There's a screenshot somewhere actually showing it in the Scion booth. I believe there's also a tweet confirming it was gonna be in.

Hey guys, I've been out of the loop and without the internet/TV for awhile. E3 has already passed, correct? Was there anything special for this game announced?

Thank you in advance!

Thats not what this says.

That wasn't from a Sony rep, was it? Red Bull said that we'd get Pikes Peak, and we haven't.

Technically, we do have the FR-S, only with different badges and fog lights.

As general discussion, I am now somewhat believing finally in GT5 being a disappointment. Most of you who know me know that I usually consider GT2 to be the worst of the GT titles. These days, I'm kind of thinking GT5 is the most disappointing GT in the series. I just don't go on epic rants about GT5. I usually save epic rants for when my sports teams lose. In my GT blog, I've noted that GT5 could have been much more. I've said on here that GT5's success will be weighed more on if the game's shortcomings will hinder it as a premier title. The game is still great despite its shortcomings. It just could have been a whole lot more.

Regardless, I still am not lamenting over purchasing GT5 and my PS3. I just... I'm just hopeful GT6 will be a serious rebound from GT5. I am just speaking as a GT veteran.

You pretty much sum up most of the reasonable opinions on GT5 (and to some extent abit, mine). I love GT5 to the point of playing it far more then anyone else even when a new racing title grabs my attention, but I keep thinking "I wish there was more". Perhaps not even cars or tracks, just more content. Maybe GT6 will be that full title GT5 was meant to be.
