Not yet! But maybe I will. It was damn frustrating last night. That car+track combo on DS3 with aids off can be twichy. :P

Ashamed to admit this but, I use a G27 with manual transmission and I can't shave even a thousandth off of 1:37.034 (+ 5.728). I think my lack of skill in the 370Z has come back to haunt me in a big way. I keep understeering or bringing the back end around. I can't trail-brake to save my life in this car...I just played GT academy for the cars and racing suits in GT5...:ouch:

Took me 2 hours... till I realized that my TC was never fixed, and still at 7 as the default. Once that was fixed, I only needed 1 lap to gold it.

When you say manual. You mean the paddles or banger(stick)?

If banger. Switch to paddles. The tires are to hard if you haven't mastered heal toe technique. Basically you will get the rear to slide. Losing momentum and upsetting the car.

If your pushing the front. Brake earlier. The oversteer is from momentum as you brake trying to get the front to bit. This loosened the rear and caused the over steer.

So slow down into the turn and slow pick up the throttle. I short shift. Meaning shift before redline to act like a traction control. Usually doing so allows you to go full throttle with minimal spin.

Good luck. Use that suggested gear indicator to get your braking spots. It seems pretty close on this track with the hard tires.

TC is off but thanks for the insight.

I was .166 shy with TC 7. With TC off, you just need patience and practice. Check out the vid in the GT Academy section for tips on how to get around the track fast.

paddles. The H-shifter is irrelevant as the clutch is disabled in GT Academy. it wouldn't make much sense (to me) to use the H-shifter without a clutch. I appreciate the thought, though. I drive with TC off and have for about 3 months now but I don't seem to have these issues with cars other than the 370Z. 13 days of practice should give me a reality check. It is important to note I'm not in this to get to Silverstone. Realistically, I'm here for the cars and racings suits and realize I'm not a race car driver(not a diamond in the rough). I'm trying all of these tips but some people just have a natural driving ability and others will never. I haven't retreated yet, but I'm starting to feel my limits are tapped out--emotionally and skill-wise. Without someone coaching me through every turn as I drive, I will need the entire 13 days. I always use the suggested gear because I turned off the driving line a while back to learn my own line. I could possibly work on this for the entire 13 days and break the 1:36 mark. This car is much more difficult for me to get the feel coming out of the curve. Generally, I can get a feel for where the throttle should be. This car, I'm not so sure. Also, I have not driven this track in a very long time. I am not familiar at all with Twin Ring Motegi East. I did watch a video(real life) of two japanese drivers in an NSX walking me through each curve. Thank you much for the tips. I appreciate it.

Indeed, you don't get Motegi in GT5 by playing GT Academy. So unless you want to drive a dodgy 370Z around there it's no incentive to play GTA.

Agreed no incentive for me to play.

I'm not old enough for me to sign up to GT Academy, yet I'm going to be spending a lot of time on the time trial simpily because I love the competition. I want to get as fast as I can get.

I'm quite good at setting a good lap or two if I get time to practice. The problem though is that I'm not very consistent when driving, so this kinda puts me at an average level in general racing. I'm not sure why but I think GTA has definitely improved my overall skill.

So I guess I do have incentive to play. :)

I have incentive to play because I get to drive on a track not yet in GT5, I get to drive cars that while technically are decaled cars already on GT5, are free to get for golding the challenges (as well as additions to my growing GTA Collection) and mostly, I just like free stuff. Thats my incentive.

This too.

I must say I'm very impressed by the track. I didn't really remember it at all from the previous games. Very challenging driving and so beautifully modelled. :embarrassed:

When (if?) we get to race on it online then it'll be the battleground for some very heated 400-500pp races!

The using of the H-shifter instead of the paddles do make a lot of sense IMO. You still have advantage over h-shifting using the paddles.

I´m sorry but for me, it´s cheating, using the paddles on the 370Z. But after all I really don´t get why PD left out the clutch-work on the Academy mini-game.

How is it cheating? I take offense to that, Mister. Just because you do not have a G27 doesn't give you the right to accuse me of cheating. The clutch discussion is available on this forum.

Furthermore, the G27 does not have a sequential shifter and is therefore harder to use a manual transmission with the H-shifter. Why handicap myself? Automatic is easier than paddle shifters so explain to me how that's cheating.

I do have a G27 aswell, so I have the opportunity to use the H-shifter on a car that comes with an H-shifter like the 370Z, I didn´t want to accuse anybody of cheating if they have no other opportunity, like using Controler or another Wheel that doesn´t come with an H-shift.

But if you have a G27 and use the paddles in this TT on Academy, I´m sorry again: That´s cheating!

Have you seen the textures on most of the trackside hills? They're awful.

Not really... Was too focused on my racing line . I'll take a better look the next time. I just kinda thought as soon as I was racing that the tarmac and kerbs looked less generic.

I agree, this track isn´t exactly beautifully modded. Compared to Spa or Nurburgring it appears to be a "standard" track. If Motegi comes along with those cars for free I´m good, but they shouldn´t charge us for the track as it is now
