It seems Gran Turismo and PlayStation have ended their long standing trackside sponsorship deal at Le Mans, and have been replaced by Forza Motorsport. :yuck:

It seems odd with their increased influence in the race with GT Academy drivers taking part.

Oh my LORD.

This made my night.

Money is my guess.

Edit -
The FM-chicane \/\/\/
I can understand Turn 10 getting Le Mans (FM4 had a pack dedicated for it too), but I'll be shocked if somehow they manage to sponsor the "24 Hours of Nurburgring" next year.

From now on I will only use La Sarthe with no chicanes, to avoid driving thru the FM-chicane, lol. jk

No I do not worry about it, they are releasing a new game so they need advertisment thats all.

I see it as part of GT's slow downfall.

I mean look at the article, it mentions Forza as the "leading brand in videogame racing games". They even re-named a chicane. It just saddens me.

I guess money played a big role in this. :(

Brace yourselfs,

The complaints about GT Losing sponsorship at Le Mans are coming.

So let me get this right, Playstation sponsors races and all is good, Microsoft do the same and they're evil, it's all about the money etc? Get a grip people, what do think Sony paid with, buttons?

Exactly.

Business is business. Money is money. ACQ is not Red Cross or something.

Same as Porsche deal. You want Porsche? Pay more than EA. You don't want to pay more? Oh, how inconvenient. It was nice seeing you.

If Forza are the new sponsors, then with the next GT game will we see forza logos at Le Mans while we are racing via GT, or will PD dedit them out, if not that would be funny if PD were obliged to include the Logos?

I have to admit that I miss the GT logos there a bit, because they were present since I started to watch Le Mans in the late '90's, kinda like if Jeff Gordon would now drive with a Kellogg's sponsoring instead of the DuPont one. But I don't care that T10, or rather Microsoft, is the new sponsor. At least I can drive an accurate recreation of the track in GT5, with day/night cycle and different weather conditions.

Probably funny in the same way how both PlayStation and GT logos exists on the Forza version of the LeMans track in past 2 games.

A.D.I.O.S
same irony that the gt logo is on every porsche @the 24h nürburgring

Except in that case PD are sponsoring the race not the Porsches. They just happen to be in the race.

In Turn 10's case they are specifically sponsoring a feature they didn't want in their game.

I guess there's no reason that they can't continue to use the 2009 track.

Why are you Trolling?

He is not to be honest.

Greenawalt explicitly said many times how they deliberately opted not to have either weather or day/night changes because they can't pull it off because various reasons.

This is probably the most known quote on that matter:

If we cut down on the number of cars on track, used original Xbox-generation car models, dropped to 30 FPS, or (and this would be the most effective solution) built specific tracks from the ground-up to have less detail and thus extra performance headroom, then night racing and/or weather conditions may have been possible. .. Others would require time that we used to develop other features in the game - specifically, the new graphical look of the game in general...

It seems odd with their increased influence in the race with GT Academy drivers taking part.

Maybe that's exactly the reason they didn't feel the need to outbid T10 for track sponsorship this time, they get their exposure in a different way.
It's (like mentioned before) purely business, when Peugeot first entered their 908's they were sponsored by Forza, a few years later by Playstation/GT5.

I guess there's no reason that they can't continue to use the 2009 track.

Yep, we will be forever driving on the 2009 version in future GT's or maybe a 2011 update in a few years time.

Is that true? I never saw that, I guess it would be as contractual obligations would mean so.

The business of games has become so serious, the innocent days of PacMan, Treasure Island and Gauntlet are long gone. Money just has a way of corrupting and consuming lol

Of course it is not, I was sarcastically using your wording "it would be funny" :)

There is a good reason why LeMans track is called LaSarthe at GT5, same way as Monaco track is called Cote d'Azure.

Both tracks are public roads so they can probably use the layouts due to non-constrains of public domain property. In the same time can they opt to put any kind of advertisement or visual content/objects on the surrounding without need to oblige some potential "official license".

In the same time, on the licensed Suzuka track PD is displaying logos of SEGA and if I recall one off the tracks also have Konami logo. Also, Panasonic is ver common on licensed Japanese tracks despite being direct competition to Sony. All very probably because of the licensing.

Its not that unbelieveable, tons of cars in pro race series have gt5, playstation logos, it could cause issues, gt5/sony have paid money to be the sponsor so when the license to use that series is sold to forza they may have to include it or vice versa, buying the rights to a series and then omitting the sponsors you dont like would have legal consequenses.

No Company buys the sponsor rights only to have thier logo left out whenever the license holder feels like it.

All over the world, everywhere. :nervous:

I became a bit sad reading this thread today. But...

The truth must be said: T10 is doing everything their money can to hit PD. It's how market works and their tactics are working pretty... well. People from oriental cultures tend to respect their enemies, even with their flaws and qualities. Ocidental cultures tend to throw crap in the face of their enemies. Just remember how Greenawalt was arrogant enough to say that PD/GT time is over and they must pass the baston. Something like this.

Well, better go play a bit of GTAIV. Or something else... TDU2 perhaps?

Here's the arrogant Dan bit for those interested.

When asked if he was surprised by Sony’s conference, Greenawalt replied: “Absolutely. Kazunori Yamauchi-san is someone I have tremendous respect for. I have tremendous respect for the work of team, but I am a GT fan. I bought my first car that I stressed out about buying because I played it in Gran Turismo. I’m in this industry because of that game.

“That said, as a fan of the series, he hasn’t done anything for me in years. So in many ways he’s handing the baton to me. He probably doesn’t see it that way, but I do, because I believe that I’m now taking what he ignited in me as a passion, and taking it to a much, much, much broader level. I’m not saying it’s necessarily larger yet, but definitely broader, younger, older, men, women. So I’m really excited.”

While I know what you are talking about, Circuit de la Sarthe is the official name of the track. Only the event is called "24h of Le Mans" or to be precise "24h du Mans".

Forgot to give the right link. Thanks for remembering this. But it's very easy to just quote the good parts eh?

...via Joystiq,

“So, props to Kazunori Yamauchi-san and the PS1 team. That said, I feel that he’s passed us the baton. Perhaps he hasn’t meant to, but we have taken the genre to new levels and they’ve stopped evolving the genre. So again, tremendous respect to him, but I’d say the differentiator is they’re old school. The emperor’s naked, and I don’t want to, you know, I don’t want to slap him around, but no game competes [with] us right now.”

…and Xbox360Achievements:

“I play a lot of racing games, including PC racing games and I have not seen anything that is even within years of what we’re delivering here.”

:ouch:Right, sorry lack of sleep last night! lol

Never thought of it that way. I remember playing Sensible Soccer on Amiga, the devs did not have the licenses for the team names, so Manchester United were called "Manchester" Arsenal were named "Highbury" etc Also the individual player names were just misspelled lol

This still happens today, I think with Pro Evo Soccer.

I suppose it is one way around it.

Money played of course a role. The GT or Forza advertisment costs money.

At the moment Forza is "the leading Brand im videogame racing games"

I do not really like Greenwald, but we have to give him and his team credit, the Forza series as whole has mostly moved forward with each new release. Although the same could said about GT, I am afraid GT has also took several steps back also, perhaps more so than Forza in some areas.

For GT6, PD have every chance to right the wrongs, if they feed us with new content every once in a while for GT5 to keep our interest and enthusiasm up, and our attention and need for GT6 less, they can really knuckle down without as much interruption or pressure and give us the game we want, and what he intended to give us in the first place.

Lets also hope Sony lay off PD a little.
