I downloaded the SCC beta demo yesterday. I'm thirteen so I can't REALLY know whether or not physics are great, but SCC I THINK has GREAT physics. I played that and went to GT5P, and it just seemed flat. I'm not saying GT5P has bad physics, it just didn't feel as good as SCC. Hopefully GT5 will be a bit like SCC physics wise.

(I hope I know what I'm talking about:lol:. My bad if I'm completely wrong.)

Where did you donwload it from?

You'll never find a link because Eutechnyx would never say where they got the technology from for Ferrari Challenge, but numerous factors indicate they basically ported and tweaked the FM2 engine to the PS3 dev kit.
  • The same menu behavior.
  • Remarkably similar graphics, including extreme contrast on the car shadows, going quickly to black, that doesn't occur in the environment.
  • The same oversteering issues.
  • The same "jerk the wheel to stop a slide" technique.
  • The same livery editor as FM1, just stripped down. With the same placement and body contour issues on the same Ferraris. Many of the exact same vinyls.
  • The same aggressive A.I.
  • The same 3D perspective. The same four driver views with the same camera dynamics, plus a dreadful interior view.
  • Very similar meh replays.
  • What I find utterly hilarious, it performs a game save when you start the game, just like FM2!
If you played FM2 and FC, you'd see the similarities creeping up on you, especially if you used the livery editor, which I did in both a lot.

Oh, crap! And it gets worse. They're even advertising the same as Turn 10!

System 3 is proud to present Supercar Challenge, the definitive supercar racing simulation on Playstation 3!

Praised by the gaming and racing press as the most accurate racing simulation on the market, Supercar Challenge is designed from the ground-up with racing fans in mind.

Naturally though we want to turn you all into professional racers, no matter how skilled you are! Thanks to the various race modes on offer (from beginner through to pro) absolutely everyone can have a load of fun throwing fast cars around tight turns without worrying about the consequences.
Oh please, spare me... :P

Honestly, it sounds just like a Microsoft creation to capture a bit more of the racing market.

I give Biggles a hard time about it because he insists Ferrari Challenge shows up Prologue in about a dozen ways, but just like Foza, Ferrari Challenge is a nice racer, and it gives you a nice variation on things. It just doesn't suit me all that well. On Monza, I bang the inside wall on a major turn half the time, mostly because of the shoddy driver views adopted from FM2. And on the PC sim GTR Evo, I have zero problems taking it, unless I haven't been respecting the turn and paying attention. And racing in the rain in FC can be a headache because oversteer happens a lot, and it'll send you right off the track. Understeer, such as GT suffers, is much easier for me to deal with.

I'll probably pick up Supercar Challenge just because System 3 is pretty much ignored, but I doubt I'll like it even as much as FW3, and that advertising just makes me shudder...

What is SCC?

The Supercar Challenge website lists SCC as released at the end of August, but it doesn't exist in any American listings I can find. I wonder if they gave up on the U.S...

And... I know this is the GT News thread so I'll step aside now. :P

An exclusive interview with 'JoyPad' (Jeu Video's official magazine), Kazinori Yamauchi of Polyphony, reveals some new information about Gran Turismo 5; all confirmed by the creator himself. These include online between 12-20 players, 4 driving views, all Ferrai and F1 cars; and more.... - All cars and tracks from GT4 will be included in GT5- More cars and tracks should be downloadable- 4 driving views - Car damage - All Ferrari+ F1 cars - Porsche and Lamborghini brands to be confirmed - Indianapolis may feature- A game will be release before Gran Turismo 5, this is presumed to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue- New city tracks- Online drivers 12-20 - Dynamic weather during races So Damage, a Dynamic Weather system, and online races are confirmed with more than 12 players. The interview goes into detail about the damage model they are creating for Gran Turismo 5, but a translation is not available at this time. 20 cars? This is old but we can comment this.

Yeah Roy ( sorry Hot Fuzz moment )." All Ferrari and F1 cars and more" maybe that means more previously driven F1 cars just guessing though.

KY did mention a few times (early GT5P days) of the possibility of 20 car races.

Aah.. you should have mentioned it's a old interview in your first sentence.. it got me waaay too excited when i read that all ferrari cars would be in it, all F1 cars.. lambo's AND porsches, 20 players, dynamic weather effects, etc.

That's indeed.. pretty old and im sure some things have changed a bit.

-> ...
Deep throaty Impreza > Vacuum Impreza.
^ I used to own a '06 WRX Sport Wagon. When I got it, it does sound like a vacuum cleaner. Up until when I installed the HKS Hi-Power CAT-back. ;)

-> I also driven a '07 GD Impreza WRX STI twice, on the outside it had a deeper burbly tone compared to my stock WRX but still a vacuum cleaner. Inside its a different story, you can hear the light burbly sound on cruising speed. But on higher revs that sound was suppresed and more towards that vacuum sound.

^ The solution: Install a CAT-back exhaust system. :sly:

Subaru already lost that burbling sound, because of equal intake manifold for all cylinders, which are changes made on engines about year 2004 for better combustion, torque curve and lower exhaust pollutants.

Okay.

I really think that Porsche is already in the game and that Polyphony Digital is waiting until the right moment to reveal this to all of us.

Porsche is, after all; the only other major car manufacturer that isn't already in the Gran Turismo series [now that Lamborghini and Bugatti are on board].

Also, I really, honestly, sincerely and profoundly want Gran Turismo 5 to release this December for the following reasons:

  • It will finally "end the wait" and give us the greatest racing game ever made
  • Forza 3 will be out at the end of October and after everything Dan Greenawalt said, he really needs to be put in his place - GT5 is the one thing Polyphony Digital/SONY can do to show up Turn 10/Microsoft this Christmas and really answer back with a resounding "Here is GT5. Now, what are you gonna do about topping this beast?" ;)
  • Since Forza can do damage and rollover on all it's cars, it's reasonable to assume that Polyphony Digital will do the same. After all, why wouldn't they if their competitor can do it, right? Getting it out right after FM3 will make them eat a LOT of Crow
  • Sony doesn't have any exclusive Christmas launch titles to compete with Microsoft and Nintendo this year - that is, unless they drop the bombshell that Gran Turismo 5 is coming out before Christmas. :sly:
  • Dynamic Weather. If GT5 has this feature + night racing [or even day/night transitions] it will be the "icing on the cake of GT5 features that FM3 doesn't have"

A Christmas 2009 release for Gran Turismo 5. Microsoft and Nintendo can kiss their collective - well you know - goodbye if Polyphony Digital and SONY make this happen. ;)

Personally I think we will get another small taste at GC09 (trailer of some sort with maybe a feature announcement kinda like E3) and at TGS there will be a full blown reveal.

Evidently, you just prefer those other games' loops, because they ALL do it. Maybe sound is the only category you judge racing games by, because PGR blows in all other areas.

nope. :-) merely i know good sound when i hear it and PGR is a racing game with excellent sound as im sure you know, but wouldnt admit. of course PGR isnt a sim. but then my opinion is that it is an excellent racing game in its own genre, which just so happens to have superior sound.

GT clearly needs to look at other games, and luckily that has exactly what has been taking place. wouldnt hurt to look not just at forza, but PGR and other games. if a game really wants to call itself the real driving simulator, then it needs to get more than models, or tracks, or physics right......

You make some good points...but they're all just speculation, there are so many variables to consider when talking about motives of an individual and, even more, a company, that it's pretty pointless in the end.
Also, game critics are all praising Sony's Q4 line-up, saying that with a price cut the PS3 has the potential to really push forward, so that point is kind of useless :/

GT clearly needs to look at other games......
No. No, no no. Forget other games, which are a prism like Hollywood, a caricature of real life. This is just like that silly "Make GT look FASTER!" argument. Other games hype aspects of reality for exaggerated impact. Which means they're not realistic.

Make GT like real life. Forget trash like PGR and NFS.

Err... you have to be kidding. It's the other way around. They don't have anything to compete with Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time, Uncharted 2 or Gran Turismo 5. Well, they have a Froza game, but I'm thinking GT5 pre-orders are going to eclipse FW3 sales. Besides, the PS3 isn't in the same market as the GameCube 2.

That's assuming GT5 does in fact release this year before Christmas [which I sincerely hope it does].

Uncharted 2 looks good, but I don't see a new Ratchet & Clank game scaring off the competition. ;)

I just want to see Forza 3 put in it's place by GT5 - this year. ;)
