we were just discussing that in the gamescom thread
looks like the conference is only 1 hour, maybe a lil more...3 hours including the time to prepare things, journalists to sit (yeah that sounds funny and incredibly stupid I know)
Those are some slow journalists!

The E3 conference was announced with 2 hours including "seating time" (it ran longer than 2 hours at the end), so if the GCom conference is 3 hours including "seating time", it still could be that long.

My list of why I feel that GT5 will release this year:

  • The list of Holiday titles Sony has lined up is seriously underwhelming - Uncharted 2 and a new Ratchet & Clank game. Add Gran Turismo 5 to the list and Sony will own the holiday gaming market this year
  • Jordan of our very own GTPlanet has some insider news about GT5 coming to us this year, stating "We are going to like GT5's release date". He knows his stuff and I disagree that we are going to like the release date - we are going to LOVE it. ;)
  • Sony has moved all their other big releases to next year
  • Someone at 1up.com has inside knowledge about a huge Sony exclusive game that is releasing this year - contrary to what many didn't expect. The hints given imply a racing game - and Mod Nation Racers is the only other racing game exclusive to Sony - and that has been confirmed for next year
  • There are tons of gaming sites and insiders claiming that it will release this year and around Nov-Dec time frame
  • Sony has a 3-hour press conference tomorrow at the GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. 3-hours is way too long to only reveal/discuss the few games they have announced will be shown - there are bound to be surprises. ;)
  • Kazunori Yamauchi has stated several times that the game is ready to release at any time - but there are always tweaks and little adjustments that could be made to further perfect the game
  • The release window of this Holiday season is perfect - regardless of the PS3 Slim coming out or not. Sony gets it's biggest title out this year and in direct competition with Microsoft's racer, Forza 3
  • The Logitech G27 Racing Wheel is confirmed to hit stores in September - just 2 months prior to the suspected release of Gran Turismo 5. Isn't that what always happens? ;)

My thoughts exactly. Also while this is a little far out, I always thought that this whole CODMW2 is pushing back the release dates of games thing a bit off, it would make a LOT more sense if both GT5 and CODMW2 come out this year. I mean how would you possible compete with 2 ridiculously high selling games? Add FM3, Halo ODST (bigger than you think), and U2HAT and all of a sudden it makes sense.

Precisely.

CODMW2 isn't a Sony or a Microsoft exclusive game - it's multiplatform, so both of those companies need a meaty, huge exclusive game to compete for the Holiday dollars.

Sony has Uncharted 2 and a new Ratchet & Clank.

Microsoft has Forza 3 and Halo ODST.

Both have CODMW2.

Now, Sony has cleared the path for a 2009 Holiday release of Gran Turismo 5 by pushing GOW III, MAG, Mod Nation Racers and others to next year. This makes so much sense to me, I hope it does to everyone else! :sly:

Definately makes sense to me. Its been a long wait and if GT5 hits before Christmas this year then I am sure we will all have a happy holiday. I just hope Sony/PD confirms a release date at GameCom or at the very latest TGS.

I'm not in the habbit of going to far in predicting when the game will lanch or getting my hopes too high about car count etc and I'm not going to now but credit for posting something you've actually thought through first unlike some who just see a date on amazon and have a fit.

It does sound very good doesn't it? It makes sense that they would bring out this year especially if they are releasing a slim PS3 too. GT5 would help boost the slim PS3 sales tremendously.

Thanks Dave A! 👍

I will have to stand up for Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted. Those two games are only underwhelming if you only like racing games. Both are guaranteed multi-million sellers over their lifetimes. R&CF Tools of Destruction sold a million copies in just five months, and both games are greatly anticipated titles.

Yes, I know GT5 is the Big Kahuna and will pull millions more PS3s off the shelves, as well as Logitech wheels. Like most of us, I want GT5 most of all, but other games will sell well too this holiday season. I'm getting both of those games also.

As for GT5 coming out soon, perhaps earlier than expected? All but confirmed.

I don't think the G27 is anything more than a coincidence since it likely won't be officially supported, just like the G25 is now.

Could anyone tell me why the hell there wouldn't be direct support for G25 / G27 in final GT5? Those pricey high end wheels couldn't steal customers of DFGT.

KY said because it's not a official GT wheel when he was asked, doesn't mean it wont work though.

I´m quite sure it will be fully supported in GT5, they might have left it out for that reason for GT5P, but after they got such a backlash over it from G25 owners i think they changed their stance on it. :)

Since GT:PSP is coming out in October, there's the possibility that GT5 will come in November and on the release date, GT:PSP will get an update for the 'prize car transfer'.

new ps3 slim almost here? Will GT5 arrive with it?

This is from 1up.com's coverage of GamesCom:

What games will be there?
Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Mass Effect 2, APB, Assassin's Creed 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Gran Turismo 5, Diablo 3, Crysis 2, StarCraft II, Uncharted 2, Mafia 2, Tropico 3, and many, many more.

They also have a news story about K-Mart confirming the PS3 Slim to be real and definitely not a hoax. Here is the link

I really, really hope Gran Turismo 5 gets the blow-out treatment at GamesCom!

It starts at 6:30pm in Cologne right ?, i'm in Croatia right now it's 5:32pm & it is the same time zone as Germany so i have to wait 1 hour.

GamesCom EA Update:

Live demo for Need For Speed: Shift

He's driving the Pagani Zonda-R and in cockpit view. Telemetry data is tracked, as are g-forces represented. You get rewards/badges based on your driver points. Career Mode, Online and Quick Race. 100 Unique race events with multiple unlocks. More "Definitive racer" diatribe from the developers. :yuck:

If you go to the show, you can register to win a BMW-M!

Doesn't look near as good as Gran Turismo 5.
