I'm trying to think of how it would work. Since there were no license tests in GT5:P I can imagine starting out as an auto-cross amateur with civics and sentras, picking up sponsors, earning licenses through racing, and eventually climbing the professional race ladder. That seems like a nice and easy way of doing it. Just adding a few screens here and there to GT4 would already make it feel like a career mode so it's possible. Just put a loading screen before and after races showing regional/professional rankings, earnings, requirements for next stages. That would however take away from GT Mode, the bread and butter of the GT series. So it's either one or the other.
That's mostly it. I want the career to follow racing "seasons," so you spend a certain amount of time in the hobbyist league, not all that long, maybe 7 - 10 races. You also select a region, America, Europe or Japan. Then you move up to the semi-pro league, something like our SCCA, where you pursue a season there in one of several classes, like the SCCA offers, from small cars like in the Miata Cup to the high performance of Corvettes and BMWs, built up to be fairly serious race cars. There might be 20 races. Winning the championship, you pick a career in true professional racing in the league of your choice, such as NASCAR, WRC, DTM, BTCC (which are hopefully offered in some form), Formula 1 etc. Then you tear it up for 30 races, or more, for the championship. Lots of stat tracking, including competitors (bots, unless you take it online).

I also want a Season Mode too, along with the old GT and Arcade Modes, though maybe GT and Arcade could blend together. So in essence I want four modes of play, not just two, and you can hop out and do anything else you want for a break.

This wouldn't be that hard to implement. It would be a simple shell of code which links together events in a calendar, and tracks stats and points. It's nothing more than what we have with all the events, which can have 12 races if I recall, just a bit more involved. I'd also like to see a beefy online structure which accommodates racing teams and leagues, as well as championships and racing seasons. Now, that will take some work, because it requires a gob of servers dedicated to each event and league. It will also have to be very flexible, because people can't always meet a preset schedule, so it's going to have to be flexible to adjust to when people are available to continue. Season and Career Mode offline against bots will be a breeze in comparison.

This is all wishful thinking of course, and we still don't know what GT5 is going to offer as far as gameplay. But this is supposed to be a surprising game, so I have my fingers crossed. I'm sure whatever the Master gives us will make me happy.

From Kaz's Twitter

プロモーション向け素材を組み合わせて海外で編集された「Gran Turismo 5 E3 2010 Trailer」と言われているものが公開されているようだ・・・。が、私たちが制作したGT5の正式トレーラはE3初日に公開する予定だよ。

Edited together material for overseas promotion "Gran Turismo 5 E3 2010 Trailer" seems to have published what is said. , But we made the official E3 trailer GT5 I will release the first day.

I think he means, the video we saw last night (or today) is pieced together from promo material for EU and NA, contained no new info, but the trailer PD made for E3, is the official 2010 Trailer for GT5 which will be released the first day of E3.

E3 Trailer confirmation straight from Kazu's coffee and cigarette stained mouth itself.

There might be a new trailer in around 30 minutes, but I'm not quite sure yet, please take this as a rumor. Source: Myself, will explain later.

Please don't be mad if it's nothing, like I said, take it as a rumor and with a pinch of salt.

EDIT: Looks like something new indeed, nothing too amazing though, but it might take a while...

That would be nice and all, but I don't want stickers all over my race car

I agree with you but that's how racing works. People want a career mode, what other way is there to become a pro racer? It wouldn't be very fun to play as yourself in GT5 playing another racing game and being sent to england to compete in a boot camp to beat out another 20 guys.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm again can't wait :nervous:

How long until it's later?

Soon.

Sorry. ;)
~15 minutes, maybe someone else is faster though...
But don't get too hyped, it's not "teh amazing awesomeness".

EDIT: Someone else was indeed faster:
Before someone freaks out, I downloaded the file and it was called "Retrospective Trailer", I had no idea it's more or less the one we have already.
