yeah, that was an interesting thing to learn. I don't know why car makers don't want their cars to stop running, but I guess that would explain the 20mph speed limit when you run out of gas in GT4.

Not just that game in particular, but I think every console game has had something that only indicated you've messed up the car to the point of it being dead(or at least the production ones anyway). Here are some recent examples: the recent NFS game shown at E3 (Hot pursuit I believe) only has it where after you hit the other car multiple times, it only rolls over and then says "Busted", it doesn't show the car unable to start and go any further. In all of Codemaster's games so far (with licensed cars), none show engine failure or shutdown of any kind. In Forza 3, you are apprently able to cripple the car horribly, but it'll still run. It appears when it comes to console racing games(where the majority of their intended present/potential customers are), Car Manufacterers do not at all want to go that far in terms of realistic damage on their cars as perhaps it'll drive away people from buying their cars if how they react in a car crash realistically is displayed in a game.

Even in TDU2, you'll have physical damage but no mechanical damage. But, yeah, I have never seen any game have cars that actually stop. Even with games like Viper Racing where you could really mess up the car, it never stopped completely.

I think I have played a rally game in the past where completely damaging your car resulted in a DNF. Can't remember which one it was though. Maybe one of the Colin McRae games?

The LFA has the same problem that plagues the GTR, imo. There isnt really a sense of passion when you see it. It feels too serious and technologically complicated.

Ah yes, I just love that feeling.

Oh that brings back memories. I remember there was a cheat that made your car bounce around by hitting the space bar and my viper ended up looking like a metal ball with a wheel sticking out.

In Richard burns rally you can wreck your car to flames and the ambulance chopper comes to rescue :D Little dissapointed thats its not possible to wreck your car in gt5. Whats the point of damage if your not afraid of wrecking your car? I will still enjoy the game, but not exited over damage anymore

'cause, while you're car won't stop, it CAN get damaged to the point where it's unraceable. Like, if it's pulling so hard to the left, you can't keep it off the wall.

Is it any videos out there with damage ? Not does silly scratches but damage that effect the speed?

EDIT: In all the latest videos i have seen they drive like noobs but doesnt seem to effect performance..?

I think in Mobil 1 Rally you could completely total your car. I loved that game!

So, they ran the TOP GEAR test track with a NASCAR car at a time of 1:51?
That can't be right? It says field of 8 but even then that seems very very slow.

edit: I assumed Gangi was a good driver, and hes good, but I saw he was wiping out in the rally vid so I guess he wasn't used to the physics quite yet.

I'm just guessing but the default tune of NASCAR cars won't give you a good lap times around the test track. It will need some work in order to turn right properly :sly:

hey isr did you guys watch the data logger video a few months ago when gt5's physics prooved to be true to life???? i didn't think sooo. you just think its easier because you didn't have a steroids injected wheel to play on so that it felt like you were steering a heavy tank...... the physics of the game are beyond alot of pc sims ..... and soo far more advanced than forza's physics that we should be putting quarters in the xbox to play it at arcade centers. saying its similar to forza is just plain disrespect to polyphony

So they're the fanboys?:rolleyes:

I agree that the Gangi dude seemed to be hesitant about being excited about GT5 but I think he'll come around.

*shakes you back and forth* IT'S A 🤬 DEMO. It doesn't reflect the final product. They obviously haven't had demo yet that has featured the final and full damage model.

Holy crap, sometimes this community can be Facepalm City

But notice that when you did, you just get "Totaled!" on the screen, you don't see that it is completely dead to the point where you can't start it back up. You see that its badly mangled, but thats it. Unfortunately in Dirt 2, it seems to take much more to actually destroy the car and even still, not much to show for it.

Any one notice that in that "sim" review they said gt5 would have 20 tracks? Cool..... gt4 had 40+ tracks and then..... 5 years later they parse it down to 20+. No way that is true right?

"Following the confusion arose around the news that Gran Turismo 5 will have two groups of cars: the Premium (which would have more interior view and level of detail) and standard, Sony has come his way clear that all cars have inner chamber, only that the Premium will be more detailed."

But is there a link to the sony site?

edit,

Has this been here always?

"The massive lineup of cars from past Gran Turismo games has been beautifully recreated through the latest technology and the Playstation 3’s cutting-edge graphics.

Gran Turismo 5 feature an astounding 800+ cars, a vast collection covering a wide range of eras and categories."

*Standard cars do not support vehicle interior camera views.

Just asking, not meaning to troll or anything :P

Ok,thanks!I don't know if we should believe this guys(Racesim..)when they say that the Physics of gt5 are more easy than Iracing physics!
I played Rfactor for 2years and I also tested the TT!I really found the TT physics very similar to Rfactor !just my personal opinion
Ps:I root for Germany !!

I found TT similar to GTR.

BTW, i found this

The following data has been posted by RSC user Bob Smith, listing the physic engine rates of various simulations. While a higher rate does not automaticly mean better physics, it shows how much power under the virtual hood can theoretically be used:

* rFactor – 400 Hz
* Test Drive Unlimited – 100 Hz (collision detection) / 1000 Hz (vehicle dynamics)
* netKar Pro – 333 Hz [posted by Kunos on RSC]
* Forza Motorsport 2 – 360 Hz [from wikipedia article]
* Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli – 60 Hz
* iRacing – 360 Hz [from AutoSimSport]
* Live For Speed – 100 Hz (general) / 2000 Hz (tyre rotation) [posted by Scawen on lfsforum]
* NASCAR Racing 2003 Season – 288 Hz (possibly)
* Grand Prix Legends – 288 Hz
* Sports Car GT – 50 Hz [from Blackhole Motorsports article]

These figures are quite interesting, especially looking at the quantum leap from ISI’s first SCGT simulation to rFactor. And who would have thought that Forza Motorsport 2 is powered by a equally fast physics engine than the praised iRacing? Sadly, there is no data on Gran Turismo or the Simbin titles, they should be somewhere around rFactor’s specs though.
