Penalties, havent heard much on that subject! You all know how frustrating it is to get a collision pen... after someone rams you off the track and in consequence you hit a barrier or wall resulting in a penalty for you while the guy or gal who rammed you drives away penalty free.Or the guy who swoops below you in a corner while your turning in resuting in a ramming penalty for you.
Now im sure they revised their penalty system but just how good is AI at determinging who gets a penalty and what for?

You disappoint me a bit Tenacious D in saying he doesn't have much else new to bring to the table as I had you down as a bit of a creative type and being a creative soul ( which I think Kaz is also ) you should know they generally can think outside the box and come up with things a sane person wouldn't concieve of. ;)
Yes, I'm a crazy creative person - am currently juggling three writing projects and two music projects, badly, unfortunately...

But when it comes to racing games, Kaz is a purist, and I like his attitude. He does occasionally throw in something odd like the Nike future concept car in GT4, but that's a very weird exception.

I think one of the reasons Kaz doesn't pay much attention to other racing games is because the things he wants to include in Gran Turismo are the different aspects involved in the real life motorsports world. Where there is damage, and weather, and the day progressing into night, and photo shooting and movie making, and car modding and livery painting, and driver training and sponsorships, and so on. Coming up with fresh ideas without breaking the pattern of true-to-life racing isn't that easy. Kaz will become aware of what some game offers, and I'm sure it's usually Forza because it's the only other ambitious racing game to my knowledge, but I'm not sure what he makes of it.

Polyphony and Turn 10 had similar ideas in regard driver training; the B-Spec driver in GT4 and the Drivatar in FM1, though the Drivatar was an ingenious idea. And it's very similar to what I was speculating about in driver training, and since several of my ideas have shown up in Forza games, I'm beginning to wonder if T10 haven't been gleaning ideas from the boards here. ;)

I have had several ideas, pretty ambitious ones, about what I'd like to see in a Track Builder, Livery Editor, Season and Career Mode. I thought about Season Mode Online and what that might be like, but when you get an idea, you have to consider the real world implications. Some of us have no life, but many of us have to work around a schedule. And a racing season is based around specific event calendars, so how would this work well online? I thought perhaps it could be done with servers set up to start at 15 minute intervals, with different servers running a particular racing event in the "virtual calendar." You could have entrants come in and practice and do qualification laps, or let the game sort it for you. Bots could fill in the empty slots to flesh out the field. Results would be added to your statistics as you progressed through the virtual season.

Would this work? It could, but like all ideas, there are costs involved. SONY would have to judge whether it was worth it and if enough people would be interested to make it viable, and if any player fees should be involved, say $10-20 for a racing season license to let you into the server for one season.

So yeah, I think about how Gran Turismo can evolve all the time, and then I pick my ideas apart kind of like Kaz probably does. You have to stay true to motorsports, and think of how a concept can enhance the flavor of Gran Turismo.

Yet another wall of text from TenD. Thank you for your time.

Gt5 doesn't need DLC!!!
Gran Turismo 5 Doesn't Need DLC

Posted July 17, 2010 by John Artest

Yesterday, a colleague of mine made the argument for Gran Turismo 5 having downloadable content, despite Sony’s decision against it. Although he made some great points (a lack of new cars, GT6 won’t appear for a few years), there’s no point in releasing DLC for what should be the most complete racer in video game history. Here’s why GT5 fans don’t need it.

Kazunori Yamauchi
I was watching the guys at our company trying it out in the office. I tried it a little bit. It's very similar in a lot of aspects to Gran Turismo. Some base components of the game are very different from Gran Turismo. It's a little bit different from what a simulator is. You can feel it when you drive it.

Its been a while since Prologue, so do you guys think with all this talk about premium cars that they upgraded the Prologue cars with more small details. From what we have seen they maybe wouldent stack up to the current premium models?

The polygon count for GT5 Premium cars is well above the GT5Prologue level, which isn't surprising considering there's been over two years for the improvements (including damage) to take place.

The GT5: Prologue cars could probably be best described as a prologue to the premium cars. :dopey:

I didn't suggest you're crazy by the way, there's some very interesting space left between being "sane" and "full on crazy" which when balanced right can conjure up interesting new concepts and ideas regardless of being a purist or pragmatist.;)

I do think you're main "thesis" is probably correct but I wonder why you limit the creative space Kaz is possibly exploring to motorsport only?
Sure racing is the core of any GT game but it's also a driving game to experience the car and car culture/history without a competitive element.

Can't think of any good ideas or suggestions right now ( I probably could if I took the time though ) but some examples I have mentioned before in different threads could be a online free roam city section ( a small section of Rome/Madrid where you could not only drive the track but also the other roads ) or a large pitlane area during trackdays which could both be used as a social gathering space like PS-Home with cars instead of Avatars ( although that does sound rather dull ).

Or offer something like they did in Tourist Trophy regarding driver outfits, not just racing suits and helmets ( although that would suffice for now ), but even casual clothing or the possibilty of creating your driver like you can create a footballer in a FIFA game ( and countless other games offer the same sort of thing ).

Without going too much into all the possibilities which are still left to explore ( and there already being a thread called something like "what else would you like in GT5 apart from cars" ) I think there's still plenty of room left outside purely the world of motorsport ( and even there no doubt ) to come up with original ideas which ( if suitable ) could be implemented into the concept of GT.:)

That sounds so much like Testdrive unlimited :)
I think GT should maintain what it does best in racing/driving, and add more related features to it. Free roaming in a city is just wrong for GT series. However I would rather enjoy track day where people can join or leave anytime they want. They can also chat or watch it live, something like LFS but more stylish and sophisticated.

Guys I know very off topic but I need a quick answer please, I now have 2.000.000 credits in Prologue but can't buy the F1 Ferrari, why?, is it because I didn't finish all S races? *desperate*

EDIT: Thank you owen.

Yes, you get a special license that means you can purchase the car once you have finished all races. (Top 3)

It does a bit perhaps ( although I haven't actually played TDU ) but there are limits as to where you can actually drive a car besides tracks only.
I wouldn't mind GT being a bit more sandbox-like in places for instance offering a large section of rugged terrain to explore the off-road and SUV vehicles included ( maybe even competitive ).
Maybe a desertlike ( literally a sandbox ) area for the Dakar-machines which could be more freely explored than a fixed route of a point to point rally stage.

About being wrong for GT, ( all the elements would be made suitable for GT, I can't imagine GT ever going for those things I saw in the recent TDU2 trailer and indeed all the better for it in my opinion ) I don't think the concept for what GT actually should be is already set in stone.

I remember a few months ago there was a discussion in a thread whether it was possible PD could include real life drivers in their game and many thought that wasn't in the spirit of GT and then all of a sudden a video appeared which included Sebastien Loeb and his talking co-driver.:)

you know that this is a quite period, so I justify them!!

You're justifying posting false info with a slow period on the forums?
The guys took what Kaz said and wrote there will be no DLC for GT5, period. Looking at the quotes they used to support this, no where does it say no dlc for GT5.
We even had the man who won the 2009 SEMA GT car of the show, confirm that his car wasn't ready for the game but would be released as DLC. Yes, that was before the delay in january, I think, so the car will probably be finished, but it was also after those statements that Kaz made in NOV of last year.

but we know there will be DLC in GT5. I mean the game come out as SEMA 2010 begins. So, the first DLC/update will at least include the 2010 GT Award Winner. (I still wish they'd include the winners in all the categories. It'd be a nice way to get some custom trucks in. :P) and I'm sure Ferrari's going to want their F70 to be in the game at some point. And I suspect the new 2012 Corvette C7 Stingray will make an appearance in the game, as well. And didn't Kaz also say that GT6 was basically going to be an updated version of GT5. As in, they'll be implimented everything that's in GT5 in GT6 and just added on to everything?

As long as the DLC isn't whore-like (Hello FM3). Every month it seems they got a new pack. What a joke.

We don't need DLC every month. That's stupid, and I think that's why KY and friends are trying to cram every last car in before release.

-> I would think a good interval for DLC to car and track updates (about 10-20 cars and 2 tracks) would be every 6 months, with minimal to no GT Credits fees (not real money). And DLC should stop a year and a half before GT6 is about to be released. :)

-> ...
6 months is perfect. 10-20 cars is a lot, though. Then again, bring it on!
^ It may be a lot, but it would be good enough to even add a new brand!!

~> Let say; enough for Saab, Koeniggsegg, SSC, 9ff, Gemballa, SEAT, Kia, or even Porsche!!! :dopey:

^ A good, small start wouldn't be bad either...at least its a start! :sly:

And they should, like everyone EXCEPT Turn 10, include new career races so that we can actually race the AI cars on the new tracks and use the new cars in some races.

Yes, SuperShouden has a major point right there.

Forza irritated me with their track DLC because it's useless in single player. The bots aren't patched to know the track, so unless you live online, and some of us don't, the tracks are essentially useless.

I've made the statement quite a few times that any track DLC has to incorporate into the single player offline experience or the value is greatly diminished. I'd still get it for GT5 if offered, but if it was worthless save as a time trial offline, I won't like it nearly as much.

Forza arguments when made sensibly certainly have a place. If you don't like it, at the first mention of the "F" word, simply skip the post. ;)

The only problem I see is that Forza has nothing close to GT's arcade mode. Yeah you can pick a car and a track, but you have no control over number of laps or type of tires on your car(unless it's from your garage), or AI car selection.

GT's not perfect either. I find it annoying that Enthusia allows to select exact AI opponents while the other two don't. This is something I hope they change for GT5.

-> That is why the reason a 6 months time frame is good for some development for the AI, car performance, and new track design.

-> If the time frame is too short for real tracks, PD can easily revive old/past original track of their own (say HSR '90s, Red Rock Valley, etc.)! That is good, just designate a portion of the workforce as the DLC department and one for the development for GT6 (since GT5 is already proven to be semi-futureproof). :)

Let me reiterate once again how much I want to see those classic Gran Turismo tracks in GT5, which is lots and tons. I really want Red Rock Valley, Grindelwald, Pike's Peak and the Tahitis! Even if they're Standard tracks. ;)👍

-> I might think Clubman Stage R5 is semi-confirmed:

^ Notice the barriers on the upper side on where the pass goes to the left (aka. final corner)? Just pointing it out. :sly:

I vote for Koeniggsegg's, Pagani's and 9ff.
