This is going to be a strange question...

Looking at the Audi R8, and the very obvious jagged edge of the wheelarch and several other areas, what's to stop the guy making the model from just hitting the SMOOTH MESH button.

There's logic behind this; it would make the cars smoother and look better

inb4 people complaining that it'd use too many poly's, etc.
Let's be honest here, it's not like the GT series has EVER had a problem with poly count. The latest ones are what, 400k+?
That Audo can't be more than 100k. There's no way. Maybe more like 50k or something.

Just hit smooth. Subdivide. I don't care what you call it. Make all the polygons split into 4. Then what, the cars will ALMOST have the poly count of GT5 Prologue (250k).

Well when ever I subdivide, it makes my games rum at a lower frame rate, but I can understand where you're coming from, maybe its because they would have to select a few polygons at a time and then click subdivide, which takes a lot of time? I mean they cant just select the whole model and click subdivide, or subsurf, it wouldn't make the care look right

You're right, you couldn't JUST do that.

Throw in an extra edge loop if you need a bevel or a clean corner...

THEN hit subdivide.

Yes, it makes games run at a lower framerate. But it's not like the standard cars are anywhere near that threshold, which is the point.

More fuel for the fire :)

a few more cars

The thing that caught my eye in the quoted R8 shot, above, is the smoothness of the driver's helmet. That has always been a blatant issue with GT4....

Well yeah, but maybe it would take them too much time?

Check these two videos if you want to see how GT4/PSP cars look in HD. Of course that standar cars in GT5 will be better with the new graphics filters and illumination and the updated drivers and wheels.

"Actual game fotage rendered for a larger display"

NICE!! 👍

Aren't all cars in GT5 going to be rendered at 500,000 polys? This means PSP HD footage doesn't come close to showing off the true potential of standard cars.

Nice!! Cant wait to see more information on the Standard.

Newer models created after GT5P will most likely be at the higher 500,000 poly count, but cars from GT5P may or may not stay at 200,000 & standards at 4,000. But that's just educated guessing at this point. :)

putting GTpsp 5th in the top five favorite Gran Turismo games is simply a plasphemous!
http://www.gameplaybook.com/news/the-best-gran-turismo-games-so-far/

I agree with the list, except GTPSP should be fourth. GT3 maybe not on the list at all; although it is the game that brought Gran Turismo to more Americans than any other; I wonder if that counts for anything? Maybe GT5 Prologue should be 5th; it has pretty much covered GT5's tremendous budget single-handedly...

A special edition of the French Official Playstation Magazine contains 10 pages dedicated to GT5:

http://www.gt5rs.com/

I don't think it will show us new information but ... who knows...

Someone on that French forum says the magazine article mentions 64 tracks, 52 from GT4/GT PSP –only 12 new ones…

'ai eu l'occasion de le feuilleter en librairie et effectivement on apprend rien de nouveau.
Ils ont mis une liste des circuits qui en contient 64 dont 52 provenants de GT4 et GTPSP.
Les 12 autres sont les nouveaux de GT5 prologue (Londres...) et ceux montrés a l'E3 (Madrd,Rome...).
En ésperant des surprises sur les 6 derniers circuits(Spa,Silverstone..).

Another post claims there'll be a less detailed cockpit view for standard cars:

bin ils disent quand meme que les voitures standard auront une vue interne (moins fignolées que les premiums, mais une vue interne quand meme!!)

👎👎:tdown:I think that GTpsp was the worst thing(game) that PD ever made!!just my opinion

So assuming this is all right, that means standard cars will have cockpits, just of less detail. The portion about the number of tracks is interesting too. Exactly what are these 12 new ones is what has me interested.

Simply, he said that the 12 "others" are imported from GT5P.
Actually, they were wondering what could be the remaining unknown tracks from the "70" figure.

Yeah, we'll have to wait until someone scans the article; of course this could be another case of poor tanslation...

The cars polys look good, the problem i have with GT4 assets is the terrible resolution on the Textures, they need to bump them up x20.

There's not alot of poor translation from French to English, that doesn't mean the mag is correct though.

Can someone please explain why we're using stills from a PSP intro as GT5 material? But others get told to not dissect the actual official Standard Cars video for various reasons?

A few people have pointed out that the helmets/drivers seem to be the same quality throughout Standards and Premiums.

Well, there could also be some misinterpretations. For one thing, one guy said "yeah, standard cars will have cockpit view" before another corrected "the magazine said that they will have less detailed interiors, which does not necessarily imply cockpit view"...
...running in circles, again.

So it's basically the same discussion but in a different language....

I only hope that we'll avoid a debate "standard helmets vs. premium helmets" !

I think we're in the clear on that one

It makes sense that the driver model would be uniform across the tiers, anyways.

It's encouraging to know the same level of back-and-forth and denial is present in other language boards too!
