I just made a list of all the tracks ever made in Gran Turismo. I counted every track but left out reverse versions, different variations, more than one track in the same city (paris), and I got 58. The motortrend article says there will be 60.

This may be very optimistic but I think it is possible that every GT track ever may be in GT5. This could explain why it has taken so long.

Red Bull isn't just simply a drink, its an Empire. Name me another Energy Drink Company that has multiple race teams, a driver development program, multiple events and athletes across the world as well their own R&D program and a Hanger.
Monster Energy does not own teams per say, but they are very close in terms to what Red Bull does; they are just as aggressive with their marketing.

There's the one shot of it coming over a crest, and you get a good front profile of the car... It has an awfully small rear wing. I mean, far be it for me to question Adrian Newey, but I would think that a car that adheres to no rules would have a much wider rear wing.

Ground effect maybe? Less reliant on wings for downforce, plus it saves on weight and helps keep a lower centre of gravity. So it doesn't have to be big, but I guess I see your point, it should be the width of the car. But he's the aerodynamicist, so I guess we'll just have to accept that he knows best

They could also use an active wing, it's angle varying according to speed. The profile itself could be variable using inflatable cushions, like the ones on the intakes of the VTOL Harrier. Engineering solutions exist all over the place ; The only prerogative being weight and efficiency.

The car is said to be made outside of every rule, so it's not far fetched to think it's also made outside of any economical consideration. The same logic can be applied to every aspect of the vehicle. Very efficient KERS exist, but the cost implied by their usage/implementation is just insane.

They don't need that wing to be that big, they just need it to be the most efficient, regardless of the cost.

Just watched one of the the TGS trailers (the Effects one) on the PS3 and noticed some things:

- The snow course at the beginning has signs that read "Chamonix", which may indicate that track is coming back.

- The street course shown after it, which I'm still guessing is Special stage, may have a fourth route. It shows where Route 5 would join to the right, but there appears to be an alternate lane to the left.

- New Dirt course, doesn't seem to resemble Toscana at all

- At the night lit street course (the part with the Zondas), there's a bridge with a uphill rise right after it. Must mean Route 11 is back.

About to watch the others.

Lets think of things Newey has tried on racing cars, I can think of active suspention, given he is an aerodynamicist full sliding-skirt ground effects aero, possibly something along the lines of the fan cars. He has already implemented and seen so many different things in his time in F1 that have been outlawed that he could possibly have included on the X1.

Maybe the body of the car already provides a lot of downforce eliminating the need of a big rear wing? Dunno. I'd expect a huge rear wing too.

With these types of low prototype-formula cars, the rear wing is actually a minority when it comes to aero. The most important elements are the front wing (and the endplates) and the rear diffuser. Set up well, the rear wing becomes nothing more than the top end of the diffuser.

One of the things the F1 teams were complaining about when they went to the taller narrow wings was that they loose a MASSIVE amount of downforce because the wing doesn't work with the diffuser anymore. By having more distance between the bottom of the wing and the top of the diffuser, they couldn't run either as agressively before they'd stall.

If they're close (or close enough), the air going up over the top of the diffuser and the air going up from underneath the bottom of the wing should get whatever air goes between those two elements to also go up, meaning that whole area from the bottom of the diffuser to the top of the wing is being used effectively. Separate them, and the air travelling between the two elements doesn't pack nearly as much punch.

Another big disadvantage of rear wings is that they (compared to the front wing or rear diffuser) have a terrible downforce/drag ratio. A diffuser makes much less drag than a wing standing tall in clean air, and while a front wing doesn't have the much-lower-drag advantage, it's the front of your car, it's getting tons of clean air whether you like it or not.

Have we heard anything from the Forza camp yet? I haven't read to much here yet, but i guess they must be pretty quiet now huh? :D

I think ForzaCentral was disappeared off the internet the day karting was shown.

Coincidence? I think not.

Anyway, for those looking to see what the X1 looks like, here's a better pic

Really? Is there any point in bringing up Forza in almost every GT5-related thread in this place? Some of you are more pathetic than those you're complaining about.

Well, not since E3 2010, at the very least. That said, I think it's been brought up in every single thread in this forum.

Back on topic, there was a picture floating around earlier, with an Audi R8 5.2 being painted. Now, I keep thinking it was something like Mclaren yellow or similar, how can that be? Wouldn't manufacturers try and protect their own colours?

Perhaps 'Car Delivery' would be being able to send cars and their setups to your friends?

I think that you may be correct. GTWORLD-USA says that you can send cars and tune up parts to friends. At firts I though that this icon on the main screen may have been representavie of your home or garage but do not think that is the case.

GT5 really seems like it will re-invent the series

Also on GTWORLD-USA you can send "B"-spec bob etc. out to race other "B"-spec drivers of your friends. Best part you do not even have to be present for the race. So get lots of friends, train and your level up your (4) B-spec driving crew and have them go win credits for you while you are sleeping or at work. That would be very cool, put the time and effort to build your "B"-spec crew and have them win you a pile of money. Then if you could some how create some favorite cars for "B"-spec drivers to use. Maybe you could save like 6 to 12 favorite cars, each one for a variety of differnt races. If only part of this is true, GT5 is going to be one incredible deep game that will last a long time at least 4 to 5 years.

What? Sorry, but don't be so angry... Didn't mean to arouse harsh feelings ;) I just remembered how Turn 10 marketed their game in a very arrogant manner and just laughed for myself. Hence i wanted to check here if anyone have heard anything... This is actually the first time i ever mention this game here, or in any other forum. Didn't know this was such a sore point for someone.

*******On Topic****************

I'm soo high right now.. Naturally of course :) The more i think of GT5 the bigger buzz i get! Can't wait, just can't! Luckily, the new F1 game comes out next week (right?). Should keep me busy 'til it gets out :)

A car that wasn't built to regulations wouldn't have to rely on wings alone for downforce. Flat floors are the reason for big wings.

Is anybody annoyingly surprised that, on the official GT site, nothing is mentioned in detail regarding GT Auto?

I was simply hoping they'd give a nice explanation of all the icons.

After all, "It Only Does Customization"

That's still one thing that has been bothering me: how massive is GT Mode now? I really hope it's as huge as GT4, or maybe even bigger.

That just means that they'll be able to update the site with details about GT Auto and the GT Life mode in general leading up to the games release.

That was my initial thought, but damn, I thought TGS would have revealed it all.

At least we got the pics though and we can infer many of the icons.

They've still got over a month before the game releases so it makes sense to keep some details that they can release until then. That way they're able to keep the hype growing. It's basically in overdrive now after the TGS announcements though.
