GT5 Master Car List

I guess 1000 cars isn't enough for some people. And GT has ALWAYS been heavy on the Japanese cars. Probably because PD is a Japanese company. Look at the new NFS HP: built in Europe: a lot of European cars.

Then you have Forza: US based developer, lots more American cars...including 3 CTS-Vs.

Haha, are you seriously, seriously going to use 3 CTS-V's as the comparison? I just looked around; technically, there's 5 (2 race cars, 3 road cars, including all DLC). The 3 I assume you're talking about are the road cars; a first-gen, and two second-gens, a coupe and a sedan. As a good comparison: GT5 has a first-gen G35 sedan, as well as a second-gen sedan and coupe (the coupe getting the slightly bigger engine). I don't really see that as padding; they are afterall unique (and really, there's a far bigger difference between a 405hp first-gen CTS-V and a 556hp second-gen).

Then, I see things like this:

# P/S Mazda Eunos Roadster (NA Special Package) ‘89
# P/S Mazda Eunos Roadster J-Limited (NA) ‘91
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster J-Limited II (NA) ‘93
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster SR-Limited (NA) ‘97
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster S-Special Type I (NA) ‘95
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster VR-Limited (NA) ‘95
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster V-Special Type II (NA) ‘93
# S Mazda MX-5 (NA) ‘89
# S Mazda MX-5 J-Limited (NA, J) ‘91
# S Mazda MX-5 J-Limited II (NA, J) ‘93
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) ‘89
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata J-Limited (NA, J) ‘91
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata J-Limited II (NA, J) ‘93
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata SR-Limited (NA, J) ‘97
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata S-Special Type I (NA, J) ‘95
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata VR-Limited (NA, J) ‘95
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata V-Special Type II (NA, J) ‘93
# S Mazda MX-5 SR-Limited (NA, J) ‘97
# S Mazda MX-5 S-Special Type I (NA, J) ‘95
# S Mazda MX-5 VR-Limited (NA, J) ‘95
# S Mazda MX-5 V-Special Type II (NA, J) ‘93

Other than the small difference of going from a 1.6L to a 1.8L in '93 (a difference of 10hp), those are all so very similar we could get away with 1 model. Heck, let's say 2 and cover both engines in the NA Miata's life.

The Miata's just one example. How about the three Hyundai Tiburons (all the different market names, but still the same car)? Or the Lexus versions of twin-turbo'd Toyotas? Or the Fairlady/350Z thing? Clio/Lutecia?

All-told, GT's car list probably more accurately hovers around 700 or so cars. That's still hugely impressive, and I recognize it as still having the highest amount of actually unique cars in a game (though whether it's the most enticing roster is up to everybody's own personal opinion). But this 1000+ car number I see bandied about is very similar to Lamborghini's habit of quoting the dry weight of their cars instead of the wet weight; it's technically true, but doesn't tell the whole story, and exaggerates for effect.

...still, excited for actual new cars! :D

Nope, because it needs to be an 09 model year. There are none. Did someone hit the delete button at PD?

#669 is there for you: Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34) ‘08 👍

i really think the total car count would be better if it was 800+(instead of 1000+)
-remove about 200 cars from gt4 library, uncluttering the game, improve them a bit while offering lots of nice cars...
-with 200+ premiums the 1/4 of the game would be current/supercars/nascars/supergt etc etc...
-they could go with the 1000+cars advertisment in gt6 were the majority would be current gen cars, that would be better....

i'm betting the marketing department wanted it like this however....

well yea, i know that, but i expected more USA cars, and less multiples of one Japanese car

Better rephrase that one. ;)

I was hoping for more American muscle. :indiff:
Hopefully we will get DLC for these cars. 💡

Overall,not a bad list.On a scale of 1 to 10 ... I give it a high 8 , low 9.

I wasn't comparing the the amount of single make cars, I was saying that Forza also does the "80 Skylines" thing, only with American cars. Seriously, if Forza had the room and graphics to do 1000 cars, I'm sure we'd see 50 Mustangs, 15 Chargers, 80 Corvettes, etc. It look a lot like GT5's list only with a plethora of American cars and a sprinkling of Japanese cars.

*DING DING DING DING*

Yes! He's won the Bonus Round! Tell us what he's got coming to him!

...

Wait, what's that? A load of sass and back-talk from a bunch of narrow-minded children? Oh, and a set of earplugs. Splendid.

Nobody cares if there are 50 skylines plus the cars everybody wants, people hate the fact there are 50 skylines while other cars everybody wanted are not. I wouldn't care if PD focuses on Japanese cars so much if they gave me atleast 1 varient of other cars I want, like the Koineggsegg, Mosler, gumpert, new stang etc etc.

You're missing my point. The reason there are 80 skylines is because PD is a Japanese developer and so, they lean more towards Japanese cars and culture. Thus, you've got a LOT of Japanese cars. If say, Forza made it, they'd have the exact opposite thing where they'd have a lot of American cars and very little Japanese cars because they're an American developer. If a European developer made it, it had a lot of European cars in it. You will probably always have some sort of bias unless you have someone from each region helping choose your cars.

So, based on the recent revelation in the Standard/Premium thread, we are confirmed to have less than 900 cars in the final game? Not including all of the incorrectly modeled ones, of course.

Not sure of Forza's ratio's but they seem to keep most people happy.
Classics, race cars, supercars etc.
One thing they lack is open wheelers.

Oh yeah weres my caterham. Lol.

Incorrectly modeled ones?

What? :dopey:

There's 1031 cars. Where have you been? And what do you mean by "incorrectly modelled ones"?

I think your missing my point. Look at Forza. Does it not touch on pretty much every car you want to drive. The only thing GT has that Forza doesn't is duplicity and quirky cars very few will want to drive more than once. Yes Forza is bias towards American, but they atleast 1 variant of every major Japanese car.

i am disappointed in the number of imports in this game in relation to the domestics

no cadi cts-v???
no cadi XLR?
no GMC syclone or typhoon?

and i am sure there are many cars that could be in there

do we really need 18 s2000s?????? or 11 3000GTs? or 20evos?????

Very true! Do we also need 1 let alone 3 premium suzuki cappuccino`s. PD is japanense based and therefore biased, but come on thats just ludicrous :grumpy: It`s more a easy way to claim 1000+ cars than anything else.
Id rather have 600/700 cars(it`s more than enough realistically) with a greater variety and at least make the good ones premium.

I give the list a 7.0 out of 10. 1 deducted point deducted for having too many double ups, 1 point deducted for poor choice of premium cars(your time could have been invested in more highly desired cars PD) and final point deducted for removing Australian cars and not expanding on GT4`s number. Here`s hoping for GT6 to have a better car list in general(and the bathurst race track ....while i`m ranting :yuck: )

Going through the car list in GTPSP to determine just how much smaller the car list actually is than what PD says it is on the back of the box.

Incorrectly modeled ones?
And what do you mean by "incorrectly modelled ones"?
Why, look everyone: Its the Nissan 240SX that was totally sold in America with an SR20DET motor in it. And the Lexus GS300 with the Toyota Supra RZ engine! And the Nissan 300ZX that has considerably less than 300 horsepower! Man, its a good thing PD reminded us of all of those cars that they definitely did not model incorrectly. I mean, it certainly would be a drag if they just started adding made up cars because they simply didn't care about taking the time to make sure the performance was accurate for them.

It's more due to the fact that being in japan, they have easier access to japanese cars.

OK, I've just got to ask. Why would PD make a game with just cars you want? Does the whole world revolve around you?

LOL, no it does not, but I'm sure there are more people out there who rather have the cars I listed that are missing than 50 skylines, but then again, thats just my opinion. Thanks for trolling.:)

Actually, I'm trying to do the opposite of trolling. I'm trying to give another point of view and a reality-check that cars you (or I, or someone else) like are not obvious choices for a game. Maybe everyone in this thread should think outside the box and realize there are people who actually like Skylines. (Like Kaz.)

Personally, I hate all four cars/marques you listed.

Thats nice, but I bet Kaz even knows that 50 skylines are too many. They probably did it to pad their car count. Also, you might be happy with the car list, but I think your in the minority.

I don't know what you problem is but there are just 5 new premium skyline's! The rest are GT4 ports.

I've written an article with my thoughts on the car list:

http://gamerlimit.com/2010/11/gran-turismo-5s-car-list-is-sorely-disappointing/

It seems to be offending the fanboys on N4G though:

One user on there at least rightfully pointed to the views of Gt Planet's users :D

I like your optimism, but the difference between GT2 and GT3 was of only 2 years, and so GT3 models were not that big a jump (even though we still got only 150 models). I doubt GT6 will have something like a 1000 premiums given it takes 6 months to model a car, unless they take a step back in quality, but thats another set of problems.

This! It amazes me how now this is a shock to people "o my gosh so many duplicate blah blah" weren't we told that 800 cars where coming from GT4? This is not new news folks. Ughh We finally get a release day and the planet is plague by bull crap.

Well I hate to be another person complaining about the tons of Skylines and Civics but jeez! I can't say that I'm surprised but I wish Kaz would stop making games for just himself. I like Skylines but I think that's way too much, he couldn't put some other cars in there instead?

You would think with over 1000 cars there would be atleast one Mustang from each generation but noooo.
