I guess 1000 cars isn't enough for some people. And GT has ALWAYS been heavy on the Japanese cars. Probably because PD is a Japanese company. Look at the new NFS HP: built in Europe: a lot of European cars.
Then you have Forza: US based developer, lots more American cars...including 3 CTS-Vs.
Haha, are you seriously, seriously going to use 3 CTS-V's as the comparison? I just looked around; technically, there's 5 (2 race cars, 3 road cars, including all DLC). The 3 I assume you're talking about are the road cars; a first-gen, and two second-gens, a coupe and a sedan. As a good comparison: GT5 has a first-gen G35 sedan, as well as a second-gen sedan and coupe (the coupe getting the slightly bigger engine). I don't really see that as padding; they are afterall unique (and really, there's a far bigger difference between a 405hp first-gen CTS-V and a 556hp second-gen).
Then, I see things like this:
# P/S Mazda Eunos Roadster (NA Special Package) ‘89
# P/S Mazda Eunos Roadster J-Limited (NA) ‘91
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster J-Limited II (NA) ‘93
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster SR-Limited (NA) ‘97
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster S-Special Type I (NA) ‘95
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster VR-Limited (NA) ‘95
# S Mazda Eunos Roadster V-Special Type II (NA) ‘93
# S Mazda MX-5 (NA) ‘89
# S Mazda MX-5 J-Limited (NA, J) ‘91
# S Mazda MX-5 J-Limited II (NA, J) ‘93
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) ‘89
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata J-Limited (NA, J) ‘91
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata J-Limited II (NA, J) ‘93
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata SR-Limited (NA, J) ‘97
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata S-Special Type I (NA, J) ‘95
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata VR-Limited (NA, J) ‘95
# S Mazda MX-5 Miata V-Special Type II (NA, J) ‘93
# S Mazda MX-5 SR-Limited (NA, J) ‘97
# S Mazda MX-5 S-Special Type I (NA, J) ‘95
# S Mazda MX-5 VR-Limited (NA, J) ‘95
# S Mazda MX-5 V-Special Type II (NA, J) ‘93
Other than the small difference of going from a 1.6L to a 1.8L in '93 (a difference of 10hp), those are all so very similar we could get away with 1 model. Heck, let's say 2 and cover both engines in the NA Miata's life.
The Miata's just one example. How about the three Hyundai Tiburons (all the different market names, but still the same car)? Or the Lexus versions of twin-turbo'd Toyotas? Or the Fairlady/350Z thing? Clio/Lutecia?
All-told, GT's car list probably more accurately hovers around 700 or so cars. That's still hugely impressive, and I recognize it as still having the highest amount of actually unique cars in a game (though whether it's the most enticing roster is up to everybody's own personal opinion). But this 1000+ car number I see bandied about is very similar to Lamborghini's habit of quoting the dry weight of their cars instead of the wet weight; it's technically true, but doesn't tell the whole story, and exaggerates for effect.
...still, excited for
actual new cars!
Nope, because it needs to be an 09 model year. There are none. Did someone hit the delete button at PD?
