I don't find it a handicap at all, more an aid, when it starts looking to apex, that's a suggested breaking point.
That's pretty cool. Braking points are one of the hardest things for me with the driving line off. I'm usually way to conservative

On the harder levels, the AI will really punish you for being conservative and breaking early. It's fine if you're about the same speed they are, but if you are in their line and brake before you should, they'll try to miss you but most likely punt you right off.

I think that's what most real life drivers would do. Impatiently waiting for ups right now....

Looks like shift2 is going towards the right direction, only not as fast as we hoped. :)
My thoughts, pretty much. However, given the rate at which those games are being released, I'm quite curious to see what it's going to be like next year, with Shift 3

Sounds a bit like the exact opposite of GT5 :sly:

I like the sound of that. The AI early braking in GT5 really bugged me....

really, if you give them half a car width inside, they WILL dive for it, and I have been surprised several times that the AI can keep along side me on the OUTSIDE of the turn when I thought I have passed them cleanly.

they defend not only before corners, but on the straight as well, you need to pay them a lot more respect than with the usual AI.

The only thing that I think the game does horrifically wrong is the Lotus Elise's handling, it handles like the Squallo in GTA Vice City!

For XBOX players, does shift2 support 1080p in XBOX?

The 360 up-scales it due to the fantastic scaler it has in, If your on PS3 and you have a 1080p TV then your game will be upscaled to 1080 but the scaler's in TV's tend to be poor. 👍

How do the physics compare to say F1 2010? I am a fan of the Codemasters line of semi-sim games and if i bought shift 2 i would be happy with that quality... However, i have heard a few times the idea that Shift 2 feels like you're driving a motorbike rather than a car. The video's i've seen of the game sure do look strange, it certaintly doesnt look like a sim.

video proves nothing because the visual steering lag is so severe, it doesn't reflect the real driver input either, there's a lot of extra movement.

it is better than F12010, the low speed traction behavior is no doubt a few step ahead, I can pretty much garuntee that.

Don't like it, seems like a game made for pad/keyboard players, the wheel users get a bad feeling of the game, I can drift in very games, in this one i just can't, the wheel don't flip and driving I don't feel the contact with the road.

GT5/LFS all the way 👍

As a GT5 player I am very very very happy about this game. I have been playing for about an hour with a DFGT wheel. The physics are quite good, the damage modelling is the best I have seen, the AI is very good, and the first event in the single player career mode was more exciting than any GT5 A spec race I can remember. Great stuff so far, detailed impressions coming later.

And there's no BSpec. :D

Fantastic! 👍

Not freaking bad at all EA. I had doubts, and was quite vocal about them, but credit where it's due. 👍

But SMS, you should get rid of that intro level in the million horsepower GT-R with no grip because it really scares people concerned about physics and FFB.

Then I grabbed an S2000, put some decent tires and brakes on it--damned if I don't think I can play this game for a good while. It's somewhat unexpected and *WAY* better than shift1.

EA/SMS gets a sticker for the day.

Nice! It seems 75% of people love it while the other 25% think it's bloody awful

Well considering that of those 25% of people 10 dont have the game yet and the other 15 Bought it thinking it was a GT5 DLC, I heve to say that Im impressed and will be getting the game also in a few days.

Well said.

Thursday can't come quick enough!

I nearly quit on the intro level though, so I can certainly identify with what the 25% experienced.
The intro level handling and feedback are *horrid* because that car has no grip at all. When the front wheels let go (every time you gas it) what feedback there is goes mostly limp, so whatever turn you were doing just got bodged from the over-correction.

But after that, inside of the game itself, things are pretty nice. Really. Shockingly.
I had not anticipated this.

Based on the responses, looks like if you get past the first few races and with proper wheel setup it just gets better.

True, as i read reviews and people who actually know a bit of racing it seems you have to alter the carsettings to get a really great experience. Default carsettings are not good. But hey...GT5 had lousy carsettings too when it came to "not" driving and when you actually wanted to race/push the car to the limit. So im getting this game, i belive that theese people know better than the ones who hoped the game was a arcadetype of game that you just could install and race without tuning the cars. I love tuning my cars so i will love this game!

That's great and fantastic for you all but don't forget out GT2/Xbox combo players.

I know it's primarily a PS3 site and all but....
