Well one thing for sure, it sounds way better than the MX-5 in iRacing, and I mean way better!!!
The throttle blips finally sound improved!

There is a bit of flanging/phasing from the way it is recorded of the guy's sound setup

It could be that he bought a muffler as well, seen as how he is just whizzing pass the other cars. I hope I'm wrong though, coz imagine what it really would sound like if this is standard.

There's also a similar effect from the other cars, which was present in GT5:P, too - this was independent of setup (at least for the range I tried) and is due to the exhaust tips, as far as I can tell. It's a bit like the way the tyre noises "phase" and "chorus" with each other, most noticeable perhaps in GT3.

Still, I am very enthused by this recent video, not just for its sound. :)

I dunno still, all I'm hearing is the overlapping psychedelic effects. Makes me want to give my speakers a knock, as long as it's not an in-game bug.

These cars don't have particularly inspiring engines to get excited about, so to that extent GT5 has captured the monotonous boring drone perfectly I guess.

The sound changed when he switched between views (looking back), as it should. I don't remember that from the GamesCom.

Near the end of the clip

Smoke lasts much longer, no more throttle limiting on grass, and he didn't spin around driving on it 👍 :)
Oversteer on tight corners, plus rutted ground/grass on curbed corners as well

It sounds much like what an NA inline 4 engine would sound like
The GT5 version actually sounds like it's been recorded on the track under load

Impressed with the sound of the MX-5 in the leaked video, I haven't played Prologue, but others are saying it sounds like prologue when in chase cam view, can anyone shed some light on this?

All I know it sounds better than what was in GTHD for the same car.
And this one was tuned

That sounds really bad, I'm glad to see there's a vast improvement though.

I want to hear what a turbocharged vehicle sounds like, if there is any turbine noises etc.

The gameplay video showing the miata just sparked a thought: How do you think the sounds of the Diesel Race cars could be recorded? The sound (or lack of) alone is the thing that makes them distinctive enough. So far, it seems everyone else's execution has been just to mimic them with synthetic sounds or modified tones from other engines.

This exactly. I hope they did a comprehensive recording of the diesel racers. Their muted fury makes them so much fun to watch. No wail, just speed. It would be great to see it nailed in the game. And with the sound of the MX-5, I have hope.

At the end of the of the MX-5 video, when he crosses the line and the car goes off throttle you can hear the sound change as the car engine brakes. That's a step up from Prologue as is, plus the reversing bit sounds nice

I remember the "engine braking" was the one distinctive thing I noticed first with the sound in the GT5 TT demo...and I knew it the first time I drove the stock 370z in that demo that it was at least improved a little bit just because of that...for whatever reason, it adds a ton of life to the sound of a car. I have hope now that the rest of the sounds will be good. I think we'll know for sure when we drive the F430 or Gallardo in the full retail version of GT5 if the sounds have been completely improved or not...but that Miata video is definitely a good start.

Quality is holding up - BMW Z4 👍
Off course I wish he would try some other views...

The AI cars sound good too.
I think we can safely say most Premium cars will sound good enough for a game, in GT5

I am little bit surprised how pd underestimated echoes in tunnels and such spaces. I can't hear any change when Z4 is driving under the banked bridge (1:17 on) :guilty:

Yeah, the reverbs on grandstand drivebys and tunnels need more reverb.

Listen to 2:45 onwards when the AI car comes up, not sure what it is, but it also sounds good. And then when it gets infront you can hear the exhaust boom 👍

You couldn't really hear him going over the Zebras also, i'm sure when its on your TV it will sound better i'm just excited to hear these great improved sounds.

Regarding engine sounds, they made their homework I think. The sounds are more meaty and ever fourcyllinders are not sounding like vacuum cleaners anymore.

I never play in chase-cam, but is it me or does this sound a lot more 'throatier'?

I love to see a vid of either the cockpit or bumper-cam with NO music.
I wonder what the ratio is of people who play with and without music?

I'd say more play without music, and even more now that the engine sounds seem to be much improved.

There is a small bit at the start when he is changing camera views where you can hear the interior and bump cam sounds

I've been in a Z4 for a lengthy cruise before, it's safe to say that sounds quite similar to the real thing!

that sounds nothing like a Z4 but at least it doesnt sound like a vacuum cleaner.

I dunno it sounds like it to me, it has that resonant howl to it
They've captured that throaty yowl in the upper mid revs
