I'd love to be able to hear the engines properly but I haven't found a way to turn the music off! I've only found the menu with a long, long list of all the songs in the game and I can only turn them off individually, which will take ages. Not having an "audio options" menu in this day 'n' age is ridiculous!

Or am I missing something really obvious?

Your missing it, look here:

Options>Hardware> scroll right to the Audio options

Got the other two exhausts for c5:

semirace

The 430 Scuderia is awful in the high revs. Has this nasty little sound within it like an angry bee, that if removed, would be great.

Holy hell, the Ford GT LM Test car on GT5 sounds totally different from the car on GT5P. It instead has what sounds like a supercharged V8 instead of that strange sound it had before, incredible improvement on that car.

Probably recorded Kaz's cars :)
He has one stock one, and another tuned version

If Kaz owns it, then it should sound decent :sly:

I love the GT series, but one thing they need to fix in this game is the turbo spools, and shifting sounds.

The turbo spool is very quiet, and if it was loud it would just be a generic old school turbo spool. And dont get me started with the BOV/DV.

The shifting sounds retarded.

This game would be amazing if they would of been able to master the sounds.

When I went over my friends house they had forza 3. The difference in sounds when they added mods like cams, you could actually hear it. I'm no xbox fan either. I own a ps3 and thats it.

Hopefully they fix the sounds.

WOWWWWWWWWWWW:tup:

What does that low revs sound mean? There is yet one engine from VW Beetle helping the main one? :grumpy:

I tried Viper sound. OMG, they've changed that wonderful and exactly real V10 sound from Prologue to V6 for every Viper in the game. Bastards! I would fire them today for it. The game is trying to be photorealistic but 90% of car sounds are just BIG JOKE from PS1 game.

And high end audio engine means nothing in it when samples are badly recorded, badly used, too few of them and for at least 50% cars used samples from totally another car.

What? I've played Forza 3 since release (horrible physics, and ridiculous steering buffer aside) and as far as I know the only thing that changes with mods is the volume, and possibly a small increase in ferocity... This was one of the biggest complaints on Forza.net...

Don't get me started on the terrible samples used for Forza 3 sounds. weird step-ups and step-downs with the samples (like the game is confused), and like I said before the engines don't change much if at all with the addition of mods.

GT5 has much more drastic and varied engine tone changes depending on the mod.

;)

There's something wrong with your ears if you can't hear upgrades in forza 3. Exhausts add pops and volume, all 3 superchargers sound different(the race one SCREAMS like a Kenne Bell, I posted a vid few pages back), all 3 turbos have louder noise and different BOV sounds, camshaft upgrades completely change the sound of the engine due to the increased redline, sport and race transmissions both have their own unique sound... I'm sure I'm missing some... It's pretty obvious you're either trolling or trying to reassure yourself of your purchase when you try and claim GT5 has superior samples, it's patently false.

And on that note, I've just rented GT5 today. I added a sport exhaust to my '07 GT and it sounded like a dirt bike, superchargers make no sound, the 6 speed close gear transmission sounds good, though. Oh, and once you add an "engine stage #" upgrade it ruins the sound of the mustang - AND YOU CAN'T REMOVE IT!

The game sure is purdy, though. Definitely blows Forza out of the water graphics-wise.

I never said GT5 had superior samples. They are better implemented in my opinion. Both games have sub-par samples compared with many PC sims.

There must have been some kind of update since I've been away from Forza 3, because the topic of Forza 3 NOT having any real discernible changes in engine/exhaust tone was rampant at www.forza.net, as well as right here at GTP. When I was playing the game regularly, there was NOT a change in tone, other than engine volume, and that only happened with exhausts.

Watch it with the troll talk... Calling a Mod, that has been here for years, a "troll" is not going to get you far. Especially with no evidence to back it up... A simple "I don't agree" would have sufficed.

Has anyone fully tuned a Spirit-R RX-7 and let it idle? It's the most amazing thing I've ever heard, sounds like a Peripheral Ported 20B! Love at first sound! :embarrassed:

I'll try put up a video if anyone is interested.

Exhausts don't change the tone in Forza 3, they add volume and different pops/cracks. The camshaft/port&polish upgrades are what alters the tone. The exhaust upgrades made a huge change in Forza 2, but I can see why they dumped the upgrade sounds; a lot of them you could hear wind on the mic or other artifacts/quality issues. The camshaft upgrade is much more subtle than the FM2 exhaust upgrades, but it does change the sound.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree that pitch-shifting a single sample is superior to a near full range dyno sampling, and I'd have to question anyones hearing who would claim so. Sorry.

All that said - I'd have sold off my 360 and sole game if GT5 would have had even OKAY audio, because it's a superior game otherwise. I'll be picking it up much later as is. The sad truth, but the truth none the less...

Close to that is the sound I expect from a supercharged mustang in a modern game. FM3 with a race supercharger came damn close, I'm gutted that GT5 didn't even get the basic mustang grunt down much less a screaming supercharged mustang.

I've loved the Ford Mustang since the original Boss 302 competed in the trans-am when I was a boy and it's the car that means the most to me in racing games. And to all the haters who think the Mustang is a boat that can't race; go watch the Koni/Continental tire/whatever they call it now Challenge, and see the FR500C beat up on Porche's all day long... with less horsepower than the Porches since they got restricted to boot!

The sounds of Scuderia and Enzo are more than awful. They are simply completely WRONG.

They sound like 4 cilynder engines... both.

In counterpad, the 458 sound is not that bad...

I generally agree with your post here. I have Forza 3 and it generally beats GT5 in the sound department . Well while you're driving anyway. I find that Forza's replay sounds are horrible. Anyway again generally Forza has GT beat when it comes to the little nuances in the sound.

I have to disagree with you in the shifting sound though. At first I thought the shifting always sounded very generic and soul-less. I only realized till recently that you would have to actually shift manually (using G25/G27 with the clutch) to make the shifting sounds more impressive. Hell, Prologue sounded incredible if you shifted in this method.

The game definitely has improved sound though. I mean the idle sounds and the low revs sound incredible. It's when you're in the higher powerband that the game loses it for me. It's got this strange synthetic sound on top of the engine noise that if they only would get rid of it, it would sound a hell of a lot better.

The cars i've come across from the limited time i've owned the game have sounded good. The IMPUL GTR sounds friggin amazing if none of you have tried it yet. It's one thing to watch it on youtube but to actually drive it. I remember seeing it in one of the trailers where the driver lets off the throttle and hearing the tranny whine and engine decelerate. I thought it was just one of the over-dubs that PD is known for, but when I tried it out last night it sounded exactly the same!! The only car that has sounded like ass for me so far is the Mclaren MPC. First car I tried out when I got the game and boy, what a disappointment. It has that annoying blow dryer whine that PD is known for.

I can upload an vid with a supercharged or turbocharged car. If you install turbokits, the bov sounds gets louder and the chargesound too.

Right, says the MOD who is basically here to defend GT5 like all teh other fan boys. Come on dude, be honest, Is GT5 sounds better than forza 3's?
Better yet, when your misuses is in teh next room and turns on the dyson, don't u wonder why she's playing GT5...cos i do!

GT% sounds are terrible and have always been, nothing like th real cars.
Forza has more grunt and sounds more like a car!

Jesus, u lot do my head in with all the defending of GT5!
