There probably aren't too many modified pushrod V8 powered cars running around Japan. Don't get me wrong, I know theres a bit of a cult following there, but I imagine it would still be a bit difficult to find cars to sample.

Sure, but now it just sounds like they're not trying at all putting generic V6 or inline 4 sounds. Kaz should put a racing exhaust on his Ford GT and hear how it sounds.

I think the problem lies with the number of cars in the game. It takes a lot of time to record sounds from over 1,000 cars. Then add in the three different exhausts, you have over 3,000 cars to record sounds from.

I think you hit the nail on the head! It would be nice if I could put a muffler on an American V8 and have it sound right. So I will just leave the stock one on and modify everything else. I wonder if you can do headers and cats and leave the stock muffler on? I wonder if it would still sound stock?

for those that have GT5 have the engine sounds improved from Prologue? or do they still resemble vacuum cleaners? this has always been my only gripe with the GT series

Some are better, much better even, but majority will most likely sound like the same old GT series.

Maybe next time tiger!

He didnt perform the oil change, but i doubt thats gonna change much.

What the hell? You're joking right? The Countach 25th Anniversary sounded a billion times better in GTPSP!

What happened? :scared: That better have racing exhaust on it...

I dont think anybody should really be disappointed.

Sounds always been a really weak part of gt, however the amount of improvement seen (Mustang vid, + Civic-standards vid) is what matters.
Think back In Gym class, teachers mark on effort, and if you really worked to improve yourself then you should be getting a good mark. GT went from terrible hair dryer sounds to something that actually resembles (90%, Most) cars. The problem was (In my opinion) that there just wasn't enough bass, and the road-tire and engine noise covered the exhaust.

They added a ton of bass to make the engines and exhaust sound more aggresive and real, Such an easy but basic/elemental step. Then. They decreased road noise and highlighted the exhaust note more. In terms of actually improving the sound, there is no doubt that they worked a lot on it. V8 muscle cars actually sound how they are supposed to (Mustang vid), and since they had to raise exhaust notes and engine noise, this opened their eyes to how bad it really was. I will never expect them to get the sounds for 1031 cars right, thats gigantic.. However, They went from blow-dryers to cars. For me the sound is well above average, The sound will impress me too, when I have it on my tv and sound sys. rather then youtube videos shot with a camcorder.

All I can say is if they have the sound for the Countash down like this I will be amazed!!!

Ignoring the tragedy of GT5's Countach for a moment...

That, dear sir, is NOT a proper Lamborghini V12 noise. A vintage Lambo V12 has a unique growl due to the unusual firing order. That Countach in the video screams because the exhaust note has been altered. A real Countach sounds like this:

Another good one, best clip starts at 2 minutes.

Pardon my pompousness,

But what I can't understand is, GT PSP almost had this sound bang-on, but then they threw it away and gave it something else for GT5. For some reason.

Thanks for posting those videos Crowood. The Corvettes sound decent with the stock exhaust. Can you add a supercharger to one of them and see if you can hear the whine? I'm dying to know if you can hear the whine from blowers.

I think I was hoping for something more from the sound department really. Just a bit more passion and grumble!! More realism to go hand in hand with the beautiful detail of (some of) the cars.

It seems a bit like the high jump, but sometimes its easy to set the bar too high from the start.

Wanted to post them yesterday:

R8 V10 stock

race exhaust

sport

semi race.....hell that sounds like crap

I´ll keep uploading vids to my channel, should i stop post every new vid here?

The race exhaust is quite close to the United Autosports GT3 car in sound.... but then the higher end range sounds more like a racing Lambo, which I guess wold be about right.
I do like the differences though, that's very well done :)

Indeed, the bigger the exhaust opening the louder the car, at least in GT5's case, it's true.

They do this it seems.

They had the SL55 AMG in GT Concept perfect, but the broke it in later games.

The had the RS6 really wrong in GT Concept, then perfect in GT4 Prologue, then broken again in GT4.

I have no idea for this, but it's clear as day. They can get most cars perfect, but purposely ruin them by selecting a sound that is wrong for that car.

It's these areas where PD need a good kicking! Sometimes I wonder if they could dump a few of the duplicate S2000's, Skylines or whatever else there are 15 copies of each car of... or maybe dump the duplicate Standard cars where a Premium is available, to be able to fit these extra sounds in... if it's a space issue any way (what other issue could there be?)

Yer I agree, cause at the end of the day the sounds add to the realism/experience and no one wants to race a car that sounds like a bean can.

Regarding the complaints about the American V8's:

I don't qualify as a gear-head. But, isn't there more to changing the exhaust sound than just changing the exhaust itself? If yes, then have the cars being sampled in these videos had any engine upgrades to accompany the exhaust upgrades? Does this make a difference? Should this make a difference in the sound? I would think yes.

I've said previously that I really enjoyed my '67 Mustang GT from GT4. It sounded really sweet with a few upgrades. But, when I added all of the upgrades available for the car, I did not enjoy the sound. It became something unfamiliar to my ears and was more of a negative distraction.

I heard some real improvement in the full game sounds, from videos on youtube and some of the points i found lacking in sound of the game, have definitely been improved a lot. I was starting to get excited about GT5, that it might be starting to take sound seriously.

Then i came on here and heard the sounds with the exhaust upgrades and they are so bad it's not even funny, maybe it should say engine swap instead of exhaust upgrade... I remember this in gt3, if you put an exhaust on many of the cars they just have tuned skyline sound, (shelby cobra and nissan 180sx spring to mind) it really makes the game feel rushed and it seems like somebody who knows nothing about cars has done these sounds.
I hope they fix all the problems with the game, by the time i can pick it up cheap second hand.

Yeah second hand. I've got my eye's fixed on a new graphics card now.
There's no way I can dish out the amount of cash required for a new PS3 when I'm not even 75% satisfied with the way GT5 has turned out.

It's not just sound, but I wanted cars I simply cannot have on other platforms modelled to an acceptable standard like some 4x4's, and of course the Veyron. The good news is I'm not worried about physics or FFB, that portion makes up over half the satisfaction and it's brilliant that consoles can finally enjoy a PC sim standard level of feel and difficulty.

I would like to hear the Tesla though just for laughs, and I'll always be checking back for those "Spec II/III" updates and eventually GT6 on the PS4 in 2 years lol? Bugger, that's a long time.

GT5 have improve the sound a bit from past GT's but not to the point of realism.... well, in some cars the sound is less realisctic than others... I think the problem relies on PD's "search for perfection" they record the sound of the cars and try to filter it as much as they can leaving a really narow and non realisctic sound.....
To see what i'm talking about see this videos and compare the sounds.

In the fist is a GT5 gameplay with the Zonda R.

In this one is a real life Zonda R ...

Notice the difference ? in real life the sound is a lot dirtier and you can hear the transmission and the engine individually, and all the other stuff ( suspension and tyre bumps, brakes, gravel hiting the fenders.....etc )
In the GT5 version you can only hear the engine and transmision noice "melted together"

In the PC sims like liveForSpeed and Rfactor the sounds are much more realistic than GT5 regardless that GT5 sounds are bigger in terms of megabytes  That's beyond me !!!!

But not beyond PD and Kaz. J/K

Seriously, they should fire the people in charge of the sound since GT3. Sure, they improved sounds for GT5 but it needed to be worked on more imo.
