Yes, it sounds similar, but at best it sounds like a synthetic imitation of the original sound when compared side by side, at least in that video.

Good enough for a game - it doesn't annoy me when I'm driving.
I get good feedback from it.
I don't think anyone is expecting a game to sound like real life

For the love of all motorsport gods, PD please fix the BMW E92 M3 sound!

Compare these.

Real BMW E92 M3 onboard

rfactor BMW E92 M3 onboard (almost perfect)

GT5 BMW E92 M3 onboard (laughable)

Honestly. Please, do something.
Or was it because Mercedes is your main sponsor and one of their conditions was they wanted to sound all BMW crap?

Damn, no modding on the console.
If only this was a PC sim...

CoolColJ, When japanese driver in video opens the throttle, the engine was short of eating him. Now listening to GT's McLaren is painful for me, in such a big game they very underestimated McLaren sound.

You should listen to how perfectly they nailed F458 Italia sound and how miserable and totally dead that mighty McLaren sounds compared to that. Although Ferrari F458 is somewhat slower car, in direct comparison you have feeling that you are flying when driving it.

Silly question time.

Does installing each one of the exhausts (not at the same time) bring a different sound to every car?.

Id check this myself but im stuck at work for the next 10 hours...........ick.

anyone else dissapointed that the cars make the same sound if you crash into a cement wall, guardrail or a car?

It not a tragedy, but it could have been a nice feature to maybe make a more metallic scraping sound when rubbing against a guardrail.

There are lots of ways sounds could be better. But, it's like CoolColJ said. This is a game - it's not going to be just like reality. There are sounds that each person here deems very important to the quality of his/her respective gaming experience. For me, it's the poor sounds on some of the American V-8's. For some the Hondas don't sound accurate; some are keen on Ferrari sounds.

I'm not apologizing for PD's or the PS3's shortfalls. But, there's enough good sound in GT5 that I am having a great time with it. I was actually surprised at how much I like the AC Cobra sound (fully upgraded). It may not be true to reality but it's better than a hoover any day.

I have always felt that the cars are missing a low end component to the sound as compared to the real thing, for example the Mclaren example above.

Despite some horrible sounding cars in GT5 (i.e. MCLAREN MP4-12C, talk about blow dryer), I've been pleasantly surprised with the game when it comes to the engine sounds. After seeing previews of youtube videos of the game, I had very low expectations. But to my surprise, there are some incredible sounding cars. A few worth mentioning are 1970 Challenger (BEST SOUNDING CAR SO FAR, IMO), Lexus LFA, Calsonic GTR, Dodge Viper ACR...and that's just to name a few. :)

The Toyota GT-One had one of the best engine/exhaust sound's in GT4 (even if it wasn't 100% realistic), now, in GT5, it sounds like a vuvuzela. :[

If you want low end just add a sports exhaust, it always adds bass, not always the good kind however :)

I'm personally tired of every time i do stage 3 engine to a car it make's it sound like a Civic. I bought a new M3, by the time i did stage 2 engine it sounded like one, E63 AMG. Did stage 3 too it, Civic sound. New Challenger Stage 3, Civic sound. It's really starting to get annoying, so much infact that im afraid to go past stage 1 engine on some cars..👎

That doesn't happen in real life ? Oh I thought so... :sly:
Maybe in japan they never heard push-rod V8's of European V8 so they assume that it must sound like either a 4 or a 6 cylinder engine.👎

But let's be serious, it's pathetic. The worst one is the dodge ram...how the hell can a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 can sound like a freaking Honda Civic when you change the exhaust. Since then, I never change the exhaust on my V8's because it makes them sounds like crap. But sometimes changing the exhaust ''adds'' 2 cylinders like with my Miata that now sounds like a V6...didn't know that I've swapped my engine.

Oh and did you hear the sound of a fully tuned Veyron... god it's awful.:scared:

EDIT: What the hell is wrong with the fully customisable transmission, it sounds louder than the car ifself, no matter which one.

But if you look deep enough, you'll find some gems like the BMW M5, as long as you keep it stock.

Ok you guys are actually taking the piss saying these cars sound like civics, civics dont even sound like civics in this game.....

And stop dissing Honda's they sound great with their screaming VTEC engines.

Spoon Civic video coming up:

Now tell me that sounds crap..............

Edit: Heres another -

Nice avatar. 👎

The Honda's in the game sound ok to me. Not sure why people are complaining.

Edit: Bought a RUF CTR2 last night. Sounds great. 👍

Thanks for making me lol.
Put stock Honda sounds youtube vids.

Let's be serious.

The sound in general at least in premium ( and some standards ) is great compared to the great **** that it was in the other GTS. Even I can say that there are some cars that sounds absolutely the same as real life.

Lets be serious??

Are you in need of education

The Spoon EK9 that I posted a Video for IS IN THE GAME and sounds nothing like it.

The Spoon DC2 in the second video is also IN THE GAME and sounds nothing like it.

You want some stock vids? No problem.....

Stock EK9

Stock Engine EK9 with I/H/E mods (like you can apply in game)

Absolutely nothing like it - GT5 doesnt even have VTEC engagement.

Just like ISR noted GT5 has some of the best Buttkicker effects. If you have a Buttkicker you would understand why. When you hit something you really feel it. (a lot of bass in that thump)
Buttkicker Gamer 2 must be getting more popular as they were out of stock until recently.

bla bla bla bla ...👎

I know that lots of standards sounds like ****. I ALWAYS TALK ABOUT PREMIUM ONES ( but some standards are fine ). Also I know as i have recognized in one of my last posts that engine mods sound sucks and i would prefer stock engine sound.
But always some sounds better and some sounds worst when talking of the real thing. EK9 sound is good enough. Of course it could be much better but also there are a lot of cars that sounds like the real thing.
If you can't deal with that, program your own game or buy maybe Forza 3 or play any pc sim.
Really, people must be joking.
1000 cars in the game ( yes a lot are repeated ) and they want that the cars mods sounds exactly like real life.
Pay the money for the works that it needs to Sony and stop just complaining.

I'm convinced that the new sound engine is purely synthetic sounds...

They sound very...plastic very...predefined...very...crap.

The FormulaGT was never a great sounding car but at least in GT4 it sounded like an F1 car somewhat, not just a transmission with wheels.

In fact most returning cars sound worse than they did before, sure theres more bass and tranny whine but the engine sound is crap.

It hasnt even been a month since it came out and people are destroying it, because it has alot of weak spots.

And dont come say its a DRIVING game whyt should it sound realistic...its ANNOYING to drive a car that sounds like a zipper with an exhaust for hours on end. I thought PD Dyno'd the cars to record sound...but GT5 has proved that is no longer the case.

Glad i didnt sell my ps2 with GT4.

I disagree about the Formula GT. In GT4, it was nothing more then the GT-ONE sound pitched up and it got annoying. Its sounds by far better on GT PSP and GT5. While I do agree the whine (a problem really with alot of cars) needs to go, it actually sounds like a Formula one engine.

Anyone notice the Shelby Cobra sounds different now after the recent patch, or maybe an earlier patch, but it sounds different from when I last used it. Mostly the top end is changed, it doesn't get as chipmunked sounding now

This is what it used to sound like
