But I have a 5.1 system..... I thought I did play w/the setting to see if I could fix it, maybe I'll try again tonight.... My receiver was showing a DTS signal. So strange.

@hooked_on4 my discription was for a car with engine in the front.

Got a new car:

That BMW is insane, upgraded only engine +2, now it has 530 Horses. The driving is like a train on rails. Did one lap on the nürburgring and it felt like the car knows exactly where to go, really weird and awesome at the same time :dopey:

HOly Grip, but yeah my Q is about non front engine'd cars, I can hear rear/mid engine cars at idle and low speeds, as soon as I hit 50mph + it could be electric for all I know......

skip to 5:41.

I've heard direct-feed video of the 787b, the sound in this video is not a true representation of the truth. The rotary sound is very advantageous to PD for being overly basic in nature anyway, yet it still exhibits the same shifting sound as all of GT5's cars and the special character of the real car is thus lost.

Furthermore without detail we take for granted in all PC sims the only thing decent about it seems to be the inclusion of distortion in the sample, which NFS Shift is often criticised for but praised in GT5, so the usual favoritism.

But I understand it's a novelty for PD to get the basic tone right for engines anyway so maybe that's the biggest reason why it's considered one of the greater sounding cars.

Here is the direct feed 787B I posted before - too distorted, the basic sound is decent, but the distortion makes it unbearable with headphones and long races :scared:
I think I need some ear plugs to smooth out the sound for GT5

It sounds better if you do the throttle blips yourself, which is required in the real car, which I do in a few places in the video.
You'll know when you hear it :)

And I can't stand that flanging/phasing you hear :/
Some cars have it really bad like the XJ13

Ok I feel dumb.....

Figured out my problem, I have my 5.1 hooked up to my surround left and right hooked up to my rear surround left and right. Rear surround outputs nothing if you don't have all 7 speakers so I couldn't hear the engine coming from behind.

Problem solved now

This game has the very best Buttkicker sound in any racing game. I feel every bump including walls, I feel in most cars engine rumble, and a real big surprise I can feel both front and then the back tires hit the road section in SSR5. thumb,thumb..........thumb,thumb...........thumb,thumb.
I starting to think PD did this to take advantage of the Buttkicker. I recommend anyone that want more feel to racing to buy a Buttkicker. IMO it worth every penny specially for Gt5.

A lot of the cars sound as though the audio engineers just discovered 30 year-old guitar stomp boxes and went crazy with them. WAY too much flanging, and on the Gallardo...I absolutely can't stand how (and why?) they added an exact engine copy that is an octave lower. Other cars have also been given harmonizer treatment, which is just goofy.

This isn't a joke, but take a look at this:

If you were without any knowledge of the Prius or the word "hybrid" this video tells you everything you need to know, just by sound. This is where GT5 is impressing me, because there is no other sim out there with innovative coding to handle the transition from electric to engine more faithfully than that.

GT5 Prologue -
Has better overall image quality, better interior shadows and reflections.
Nice wind sound which enhances feeling of speed
Horrible and annoying tyre noises.

Physics feel terrible, a bit like skating on ice.

GT5 -

Has better sound, although the whine annoying and too loud IMO. Engine sounds nice down low, but gets a bit "chipmunked" up high.
The tyre sounds are better and have variations. The interior collison sound is horrible though.

Lacks the wind noise :(
Open top car should have a lot of wind buffeting noise...

Better smoke and tyre marks.

Physics are much better.

I really don't know why there is a whine. It could be just the GT5 preset 6 speed gearbox upgrade transmisison whine :/

Real thing

I've been searching for a 22B in GT5 for a while, then when I entered a B-Spec race with my tuned GT-R Spec V with 630+ HP driven by my B-Spec driver V.Baron., I saw this lovely example, with most likely a race exhaust :)

It looks pretty good for a non premium car, and it sounds better than the other premium and standard Imprezas!

My GT-R specV has a race exhaust and sound a bit like the 370z with the same in the game.

PD has made a case that every custom ratio gearbox or tuner car gearbox has straight cut gears. I would say that straight cut gears are very rare outside pure high power racing cars.

I think they added some cheap chorusing in the sound engine to make the sound richer and fuller, but because it's cheap, it actually sound more like flanging and phasing ;/

It looks to me that PD only updated and improved the sounds of cars they were able to get their hands on. Anything they couldn't manage to reach had synthesized or their initial GT4 sounds kept :P

That 22B is an example, but this is just a guess.

I was VERY disappointed in the sounds for this game all those years and all the cars still sound like sewing machines. I eamn come on.

When my mustang sounds like my civic there is a problem.
I don't get why they couldn't fix the sounds.

I've been recently thinking about that myself. Of course some of the synthesized sounds from GT4 now are even better (Nissan R92CP the one that sticks out to me the most), but still question ones like the Viper GTS-R. Its sound nice and deep yet I'm not so sure thats how the real one sounds (unless this sound came from the Zakspeed Viper as opposed to the Original Oreca car).

Stock sound has a nice V12 Scream, but the Sports exhaust just seems muted, even muffled abit.

I didnt read the Hundreds of posts cause I just havent time. The collision noises to me sound like a Kick drum? Couldnt they get 2 old bangers maybe in a scrap yard and drive them into each other and record the crunch?

Oh and did anyone else think that when you get close to another car its engine tone over rides your own. Im sure in a Ferrari pretty much the only thing you can hear is your own engine.

The Stock 22B sound is like the GT4 one though. Same for the the standard Imprezas. I have an STI coupe and the stock sound is the same as GT4, but when using a race exhaust it has a throbby rasp.

I found a video of the newer tuned Impreza that GT5 has as a premium, and yes it does not have the infamous Boxer throb and bark. No wonder the newer ones in GT5 sound more like 370z

That's why the old Subarus sound different to the new ones in the Premium dealership. Equal length headers smooth out the sound

I really can't understand why there is no tunnel echo in GT5. It's such a small effect but it makes a huge difference imo...

Anyone seen the Sim Racing Tonight comparison of the F430 at Suzuka on GT5 and Forza?

Starts at 4m05s (here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5jc2Aztm7o#t=4m05s)

The GT5 engine sounds (whilst racing - replays are another matte) are lagging behind Forza, for sure.

¿ When will people understand that GT5 have differents sounds from each perspective ?
GT5 cockpit sounds are the real ones.
This is not Forza Motorsport where the same sound is used for all perspectives but with different volume.👎
Most of people thinks that Forza 3 sounds are much better when that it's not true at all.
They use the same exhaust sound even with volumen increased. I can hear a Cooper S sounding as high as a Ferrari. And you can see some ****** sounds like F50 or also a lot of cars have the same sound ( just like GT5)
Does some of that sounds sounds better than GT5 ? Maybe yes. Does it sounds more real than GT5 i all views ?
NO.

PD : Yes, there are some cars that sounds more real in Forza than in GT5. The same thing happens with GT5.

I'm personally tired of every time i do stage 3 engine to a car it make's it sound like a Civic. I bought a new M3, by the time i did stage 2 engine it sounded like one, E63 AMG. Did stage 3 too it, Civic sound. New Challenger Stage 3, Civic sound. It's really starting to get annoying, so much infact that im afraid to go past stage 1 engine on some cars..👎

In that i am with you. I don't like the engine modifications sounds 👎

I would prefer the same sound as stock but with more hp 👎
