GT5 Sound Thread

I downloaded rFactor today. I thought that the sound was one of it's strengths, considering the amount of people in this thread who bashed GTs sounds and posted rFactor videos as examples of 'good' sounds.

But the biggest problem with it is the sound. I do not own a wheel, so I was using the pad. Now, in GT i've always had audio feedback, telling me much I am currently applying the throttle with slight changes in pitch.

In rFactor it was a complete monotone, the engine sound was either on, with any amount of throttle modulation. Or it was off, when I took my thumb off the button completely.

There was variable throttle input, but it was impossible to modulate properly, because there was none of that feedback that I was used to with GT.

After watching the standard car video from granturismo.com It sounds like the sound for all the standard cars are taken straight from gt4, what do you guys think?

Seriously did you hear the muscle cars

I really hope this isnt the case because I tought sound had been improved, maybe only for premium.

Honestly the more news I hear about this game the less excited I get

Terrible, I hope they tweak the "GT4" sounds. I don't mind driving the GT4 models with the better physics, but with the same sounds - bleh!

Some of the engine sounds are GTpsp one's!!!!! :grumpy: :yuck: :ouch:

Well... they have until November to fix it :scared:

And, by the way... all that interviews, and NO ONE asked for engine sounds... very good... veeery, goooood 👎

rFactor is a mod-based game. The regular cars and tracks are just placeholders to get you started, basically. Try this mod and you'll be impressed:

I watched the standard car video and was appalled by the recycled engine sounds from previous versions of the game. They are not only reusing old engine sounds, but still incorrect ones at that. The Corvette C5R still sounds like a 4 cylinder. I can handle the whole interior/no interior mess, but this is just bad that after 5 years, they can't get V8 sound correct. Even if it was just some V8 sound, not necessarily the correct one, it would still be leaps and bounds better than what is now :grumpy:

What are they gonna say?

Kaz, are the engine sounds GOOD this time?? ...

and what would kaz say? probably something about how they are painstakingly recreated and the process rather than their "quality".

I think that the question would be like this:

Kaz... do you plan to put real sounds, or at least, very similar, for ALL cars?

Or just explain him that some are really weird... like in the Alfa Romeo Giuletta SS :ouch:

Yeah I was very concerned at that video as well. One of my biggest issues with the GT games has always been the sounds. Its always been lacking. They were getting better in GT3, still not perfect but acceptable for the most part. In GT4 with at least a few of the cars they definitely took a definitely step back. 2 off the top of my head which wee favs in GT3 was the Camaro SS and the C5R. I figured that maybe it was hardware limitations so I accepted it.

If the same thing happens with GT5 that will be unacceptable. If the sounds are wrong there is no excuse and even less of an excuse if they actually do recycle the sounds from GT4. Lets just hope that was a early video taken before the sounds were finished in the game, because its terrible. One of my favorite cars from GT3 was the C5R. It was nearly unplayable in GT4 because of the awful sound it made.

If the sound and the tuning in GT5 are not greatly improved from the previous games I may just pass on it.

I completely agree. I actually laughed when I heard the Corvette C5R drive by in that video. Whoever is responsible for that sound being in the game should have been fired a long time ago. Kaz obviously knows what real race cars sound like, so why can't he have his damn sound people re-create that sound? It really can't be that hard.

Lets face it, we are going to have to accept that for the vast majority of the cars we are going to have Hoover sounds.

For a Man who is supposed to be sooooo passionate about cars, how can he ALLOW a Corvette race car to sound like this!

I just really can't believe how it can slip him for 5 incarnations of the game.

Questions to Andrew House.

Q Have you heard engine sounds in GT5?

A Ive seen it and it's great.

I am not even gonna lie, that sounds a lot like the previous GT's.

hahaha I Youtubed random hoover/hair dryer sounds, and yes with that particular one I though damn, ''sounds like a GT4 Ecobox flat out at the redline down the mulsanne straight''

:sly:

458 sound = F430 (Prologue) in E3 demo... like in the TGS... CAMON KAZ!!! CAM ON!

I agree:D

Oooh looky a crappy compressed youtube vid recorded from a 90s Nokia brick and it still sounds better than an F430 in GT5P through my 5.1 £1000 home cinema system

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9ZhJgCWzo4 Ferrari F430, now go and get your 430 in GT5P and nail it in 2nd gear and tell me if it sounds anything near as good as that?

They should just at the very least do 1 good generic sound set for each engine type and use them across the standard cars. I wouldn't mind that at all.

Listen to the camaro driveby in the standard cars video.

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8v7hjaSr6c

I don't even know what to compare that to.:scared:

But what I also hope they fix is the amount of wind sound when driving in the cockpit. In Prologue, I can't even hear the engine over the wind. Listen to any in-car video of real footage and it doesn't sound like that. The C5R video someone posted earlier is a good example.

Let's all face it, the sounds are going to be craptastic and recycled. As much as that hurts me to say it, especially after 5 years of development time, it's not going to change. If they already had awesome sounds they would have been flaunting them. I really don't think the sounds are suddenly going to become fantastic by the time November hits, the sounds would be finished by now.

Well in GT4 the SS(the one in the video) has almsot no muscle car vibe to its sound, except the easily screetching tires, it seems like a Supercharged engine on blast.

The Z28(the one they choose for Prem status) however is a grunty grumbly fire machine. Bad Aysss.

The only logical explanation at this point is that the just don't care about the sounds.

If thats the case I dont think ill be getting this game then.

I truly hope your right, but haven't heard any videos that had decent sounds yet.

Yea I don't know it seems the American V8 cars are, and always have been, particularly problematic with the sounds.

Well again if thats true I don't think ill buy the game then, sounds like that are just totally unacceptable. How can the racing game that top of the range in graphics have sounds that are the worst in any raging game. Seriously my Burnout Paradise game had better sounds than GT4, GT5P and possibly now GT5. Any racing game you get now can at least make a V8 sound like a V8, but the Real Driving Simulator cant do it for some reason? I mean listening to the sounds its not even a subdued sound, like you can hear it in there somehow, they flat wrong. 5 minutes on the internet and I can see their wrong.

Damn, I wonder why those guys ad PD can`t make a V8 sounding like a V8.

The premium car sounds already suck (Just check the F430/458, F40 and F599/Enzo sounds and compare them with their real live counterpart), but the standard cars are even worse!

I agree with you, people...
sound is what makes gt so far from other racing games (especially from simulators like rfactor and gtr)!!!
Photo mode places and backseats details are good to see, but you will see them ONCE, maybe twice... in the whole time you play GT5...
sound... you will hear the cars and tires sound the WHOLE time you play that game... and, especially for standard cars, i think, it will be absolutely awful, I don't think they updated the sound from gt4 cars, so they will be hoovers.
