It always strikes me as odd to find a lot of people here who only seem scared of the possible negative outcomes these creative options can have whether it's track or livery-editor.

👍:)👍

I agree, I think about Little Big Planet. There are the levels that came with the game, which were cool, but the online levels are really impressive (some of them at least). I see no reason why people couldn't come up with some really cool tracks on their own. Sure there will be some bad ones, probably a lot, but they will get low ratings, and you don't have to drive them if you don't want to.

I'm with analog. I'll probably be much better at creating a fantasy track than trying to copy an existing one (I probably still won't be much cop even then!)

Anyway, a good place to start your research: Hans Hugenholtz

I'm not holding my breath for an all out track creator, if anything it will be 1 of 3 things:
1) A pre-built city where you just designate the layout of the course(ala PGR3).

2) A large parking lot where you make an auto-cross course.(like in GT4).

3) A rally course creator where you again setup the route on a pre-built terrain.(Sort of like Mirage in Enthusia).

Those three would probably be the easiest to incorporate without drastically increasing load times.

A fellow Dutchman who designed, amongst other tracks, Suzuka.
And he had some interesting theories regarding the flow of a track, he hated chicanes for instance.
Certainly worth delving further into, as Suzuka ain't half bad an effort.

Hehe, yup!

A circuit should be technical (like Suzuka, NOT the new Fuji...) but require the odd "balls-out" moment from the driver (e.g. Eau Rouge, 130R, Ascari - there are many more!) - the Nordschleife is full of these moments.

In fact, the Ascari chicane at Monza is a chicane done properly, in my opinion. But, we're heading off-topic now

I'm very much intrigued about the possibility of a circuit making its way from the game to the real world. I.e., they provide players with a fixed area of terrain (perhaps coinciding with a known "plot" somewhere in the world, including elevation etc. - though earthworks are always possible) and must come up with a fun, challenging circuit. The winning design gets made for real! I wonder if there are any collaborations in the pipeline...

That would be far too cool for school!

A new kind of GT-academy for those with creative talent instead of driving skills does sound nice.
And for a real life track you'll not only need a real life location as a template but also a sound financial backing and a not too strictly ( regarding these things anyway ) regulated country with plenty of open space to create it.
Somehow a dessert in a Middle-Eastern Emirate comes to mind......
Otherwise it will probably end up as an indoor-karting lay-out.:)

I would love a track creator. If you can create a large amount of tracks to save on your PS3, I'd set a lot of them in Ireland (it's time it had some representation). I even designed a Dublin street circuit:

This is an interesting thing to keep in mind (from an IGN interview a while back):
IGN: “If there is a track editor, that will make your job easier, right? Because you can make fans design the tracks instead of your team.”

Yamauchi: “[Laughs] A lot of the courses we set up, we take a long time fine-tuning the details and building the track, so it would probably be a bit different than the types of tracks the users will set up in the game.

Just thought I'd share that to keep some perspective on what we can expect

Please make this if you can! 👍 Assuming we do get a track maker, of course.

My lame attempt at Trial Mountain in ModNation Racers wasn't very close at all, but it does have some great quirks, such as a turn which completes over a hill. I've had a lot of fun trying to master it properly. So, so what if we can't all make perfect recreations of real world tracks? A great track is a great track, and I expect thousands of them if we get a track maker, which is seeming likely now.

My attempt at a fictional alpine course (oddly enough, now that I think about it, it was a bit like Eiger in feel, though with more grandeur!) was pathetic. Really sloppy flow and annoying little bumps in the track in just the wrong place.

Maybe it's my lack of talent, maybe it's the "vehicle" - I hope that a "track editor" in GT5 will allow me to actually produce something that better matches my vision! :P
Might have a go at some local roads for Richard Burns Rally in Bob's though, if I can be arsed... I doubt I'll be able to in GT5 though (cynic / pessimist alert!)

I suppose the fun is somewhat in the attempt. :)

If there's a strong track editor, first thing I'd do is make a long city track. Imagine Nürb+SSR5 :P

My hometown used to have an annual street race for classic cars, that is sadly no longer running after some tragic accidents one year. It was a neat little course, and I'd love to be able to replicate that in GT5 if I could.

Just get Google Street View and Copy+Paste :P
Made a few good Auckland Street Maps, was even thinking of sending one to the V8 Supercars' People... but Hamilton got the vote :grumpy:. Would like to race there though...

What about Auckland City? I want to see a track made out of that. :)

THE LEGENDARY ONE.

Never try this in real life. Driving shown here is dangerous by any instance and it should not be consider anything than reckless.

Ah, yes. Now we see the power of gaming - we can do what we can't (or oughtn't) do in real life! :dopey:

The second Getaway in Stockholm featured an NSX, but I don't think it was quite as good as the first.

Oh dear, disclaimers in forums...whatever next?!

Under clearly controlled conditions with a capable car, what is wreckless about that?

Yes. Forums are filled with videos like that. Conditions were not totally controlled, just night time in stockholm.

I still think we will get a full blown track creator, I mean landscapes, track and grand stands, all of it, the whole lot, I really do think we will get a great track creator.

Lol yeah, that's perfectly logical.

How isn't it logical?
Its not like the physics engine is going to be run while creating the track, There's no reason why the PS3 couldn't be powerful enough. People wont overload maps either, thats why developers incorporate "Budgets" and specific items to keep the size lower. PD could give an option of including items and props that are already a part of the game, they could have a flat landscape with grass (Take out the option of creating landscape) and it could be perfectly easy to run. Just imagine.. If GT5 can run the nurburgring, then Wouldn't it be perfectly logical that it could also run our own tracks; With limited Landscaping, Budget for props, and a smaller sandbox?

And the DLC: Perfect hope of a track editor- because I don't think Kaz will include many tracks (Or cars) as DLC. In fact, I honestly think PD will never stay committed to DLC support (They'll probably only release 2-6, most likely cars not tracks), instead I think Kaz is more interested in starting on the next game then to support the older one (As much as he still says he will be releasing DLC)

I just hope we can create bridges and maybe cross roads for maybe making some figure 8 courses. And elevation would be nice. I could see people making mountain climbs and some cliff-side races where once could fly off the edge.

If you're allowed to make point-to-point courses, I can only just imagine the amount of people trying to make Mt. Akina.
