Yes! Us drifters have our drifting heaven finally! :D]
Aww man..just imagining creating our very own mountain stages with 10km of hairpin turns makes go nuts. It's going to be hard to wait until November 2nd. :scared:

This is something I simply cannot wait for. I will do my best to make a rendition of the Dragon. Whether I fail or succeed is up to the software... :D
Obviously it won't be long enough and from what I am understanding you won't be able to design the turns exactly, but using the tree-lined theme and adding as many turns as possible with a fair degree of slope and very awkward camber angles you could create something that feels similar.

It would be truly awesome if you could add some minor decorative details, like a lake on one end and a dam on the other. I wonder if you can put cop cars or photographers every mile or so...

Thats actually alot longer than I expected. What I think is really cool is choosing a specific time (5:30pm, 7:00am, etc.).

From the little red line through those boxes I have to wonder if you don't get to choose so much as it tells you what time the track is built for... I am thinking maybe each track has 4 times (dawn, midday, dusk, night).

Seriously though, look at the photograph of the themes you can choose from, notice how the scroll bar is down 50%. Should that mean we have another 4 themes to choose, making it 8 ??? This is awesome!!!!! :dopey:

This makes me think that also... perhaps those first 3 screens you see are all Toscana at different times of day and the remaining options will be the other locations, also at different times of day?

Did they mention elevation changes as well? Thats a huge part of rallying and Touge showdowns!

Especially when nobody knows the course :D

Espe-Especially when Nobody can RAM YOU! Although i wonder if Staggered starts will be an option as well as Grid and Rolling. No point in Point to Point if you cant take the best line because the other fool is all over the place.

Its a let down that the game generates the track randomly from parameters you set rather than allowing you to plan the course exactly as you want and even recreate real tracks accurately. However I'm so happy that we finally can race point to point although it would have been nice to have a coastal road theme for that.

I don't agree with KY that its hard to program and implement, its like building a slot car track... you have pieces and you lay them out how you like and many types of game have a similar system. I guess I would have much prefered liveries over this mode which in a way turned out not like it was hoped to be.

Robin.

Eh, I kinda feel the same way; remember Enthusia's randomly generated track? This is very similar; we get a few more "controls", but the user hardly has a say in the final product. I too feel like a more accurate, user-focused track editor can work... but considering the finer details most real-life tracks have, you'd have to have an insane level of control to get things right. And yeah, I would've preferred liveries over this too, now that I know the true nature of it...

But...

I'm actually excited about the randomness, because there were plenty of times where I wanted to just drive casually in GT4, but would only ever end up on the 'Ring. With this, if I'm bored and just want to do a casual Sunday drive, I can just load up some random track and cruise around. It'll always be different, and that'll be fun for me 👍

I suppose we now probably have an answer about that paved Toscana track we've seen the 458 Italia on now, huh? And possibly the FT-86 and the Stelvio-lookalike track, too...

I see on this screen Toscana on termac (mouse point) and Toscana on gravel (left). Below is other enviroment with gravel and termac too (more trees). I wonder what is below that slider. I think there are located a further 4 environments.

The course maker feature is really promising.

I think the procedural track creation is a good way to handle this aspect. I think that, even with a same set of parameters, but two different random seeds, you'd end up with two different layouts.
10 km long course is a good distance. Even though it's not as long as regular rally stages, it is much longer than 99% of the stage that had been featured in WRC games.
The prospect of building whole rallying events is appealing.

This is going to be amazing! The drifters and tougers I'm sure will have fun with this.
I can't wait to pick a random car, create a random track and just go for a cruise.
Reminds me of when the boys from Top Gear travel to the Isle of Man. Beautiful scenery and all that open road. Best example: Aston Martin V12 at the end of season 13

I guess this would be a good time to put our resources together and gather data on particular tracks we want to start developing. We have a few more months to get it ready for a track editor. Any suggestions on what tracks we can get some data on? 💡

Problem is: with this procedural method, courses are built with random inputs. You can't draw the course yourself. Thus you cannot really recreate existing courses.
Else...

You can however build courses that are "in the style of-" other events. Say, "Rallye des Ardennes" or Eifel Rally (given the sceneries provided). That's good enough for me.

HOW TO "CREATE" a track in 10 steps!:

Course Maker:

1) Select One of the Four Themes.
2) Choose between and Closed or Open Track.
3) Select the weather!!! (snow? rain? fog? wet? sunny?)
4) Select the time of day (night? day cycle active?)
5) Track is limited to 10km long (6.5 miles)
6) Track can be divided up to 4 sections.
7) Each sections can be given different set of corner characteristics
8) Select the frequency of corners for each sections
9) Select the sharpness of corners and bank angle of each sections.
10) Generate it, Race it and Share it! (Suddenly i feel GTP WRS much more
exciting and fun! GT games a la LBP! OH the combinations!! is infinite!)

"Track generation was incredibly short", *(randomly generated from scratch, based on the above set parameters... therefore it is not really possible to recreate an exact circuit in real life)

This isn't a full scale track editor...
But we got the next best thing!

and if you get bored with all this...

there is always Photo mode which is time and space dynamic!!!!

PS: i am wondering... will day/night transition be fully functional in the Course Maker/Creator!!

I think it would at least be there, out of all the places...

It would be even more of a let down if it didnt work in the Track you 'created', but instead, works only on a selected few "standard" (read prefigured) tracks in the games.

So will the elevations be random or are we able to dictate if we just want a level track and just determine the banking or camber of the corners? 'cuz if that is possible then we would be able to simulate a lot of oval tracks and some simple road courses.

Not to be a complete party pooper, but we don't know yet if these tracks can be shared and stored on each player's individual HDD and thus enable WRS time trials. As far as I know we have only heard that the created tracks can be raced from your lobby with your mates. But being the optimist I am, I guess in the end we will be able to really share our created tracks. :)

The terrain appears to be preset by the location you select. In the map below it shows the contour lines, essentially the hills & valleys already created. Just a matter of drawing roads over those surfaces.

To the people that keep stating all of the shown themes are Toscana, please be aware that all Toscana screens have olive trees in the background (just look at the videos of Toscana). To say that they must all be Toscana is a baseless claim. Please stop proclaiming it as fact.

Oh yeah I can hardly see the elevation lines from my monitor. I guess this is going to be more like a rally track editor if we can't dictate the width of the road either and the default with would just be like a 2 lane road.

Bet you 1 to 500 they will!..

According to the news page:

whereas GT5 Course Maker tracks will be available to race online.

This sounds likely we will all be able to access and probably share...

If anything it's toscana with different types of, ummm, ground? Tarmac, sand, mud, gravel.

I noticed that too, but I am assuming you can choose different track surfaces in your individual assumptions (although obviously that could be wrong - however it would be a real shame if courses can't be part tarmac/part dirt) so a whole terrain difference for road surface seems unecessary... the other major different seems to be lighthing thus suggesting maybe the reason for multiple Toscana options is each one is at a certain time of day.

Can't wait for all the tracks inspired by Trial Mountain, Deep Forest, El Capitan and Grindewald. And the Grand Canyon. I hope they will provide us with the adequate sceneries, though.

Just noticed the replay option as welll.Wow imagine you and your friends just crusing around in your cars maybe stop for some 11's and upload all that to youtube and be able to con your friends thinking this was real life.
