The editor doesnt seem to be nearly as good as i was hoping, i was hoping something like mod nation racers but with more tools and more complex so talented people could make tracks likes SPA, Brno or cool fantasy tracks.

At this momment i feel is more like a cool bonus more than the killer feature that it could have been.

I think its still a killer feature. We have unlimited tracks now. Literally every new track will be different. Sure, we wont get to make our own, but still!

if they will happen ; i will make super speedways for +400 km/h speeds.... or i will make complex race tracks (i have my own designs). and a PS2 rally game had "course editor" too , i dont remember its name.
will we make a new track/s? or we will edit game tracks?

It was V-Rally 2, I think. That was good fun. I personally wasn't expecting one. So this is a bonus. I hope you can change the surface, so we can create point to point rally on dirt tracks. Will be fun!!!

yes i remember it by you now. it was "V-Rally 2". thanx.

You think PD would give us everything in GT5 they would have to save some for GT6. :sly:

Sorry but as i've said many times if anyone expected to create SPA then their expectations were far too high. The track creator is even better than I thought it would be and should provide endless hrs of fun.

It's not an "editor", it's a "creator", and to expect anything like MNR in a new game engine like this goes way beyond unrealistic.

Personally, I think it's a fantastic feature that everybody can, and probably will, use. On top of the existing tracks, we now have almost limitless variations on themes to create. Can't ask for more than that (well, you can, but it won't get you anywhere - yet). Maybe in GT6 we might see something more evolved.

I'm getting really hyped for this feature. My only worry is that we won't be able to create oval tracks for two reasons: the set sectors and the topography will be set on the maps. I'm hoping there will be a map with just flat ground, hopefully.

I'm also thinking that this will be aimed more towards rally racing, which is not a bad thing at all. I'm already thinking about making 10 "stages" on Toscana and holding an elimination style championship :)

I'm going to make a 1/4 mile drag strip and a 6.5 mile long top speed track. I would assume the topography of the map changes when you change the the incline of the road, I would hope we get control over the hills or flatness of the track.

Don`t worry about the 4 themes... Im sure that this will be enough - untill PD delivers some new themes via DLC :)

This feature (+ the Ferrari 330 P4) will make me buy this game, no matter what happens... They could release this game just with the track maker, the P4 and F40 and I would still pay 70€ for it :)

Oh, kudos to Kaz, this guy really has some class. Not like our beloved "definite racing game!" guy :dunce:

I know right, it's hard not to become an ego\megalomaniac when you change the whole "game" with your first release, and every release after is a bonafide smash hit worldwide.

Kaz has alot of bite to back up that bark should he choose to holler, i respect the fact that hes still so humble, even tho he is clearly a very revered man in games and now in motorsport.

Imagine if Mr.Definitive had even 1\4 of the track record Mr.Humble has! He would fancy himself running for president!

To be honest, I think it was all a bit hammed up, for marketing purposes. I doubt we can draw any conclusions about Dan Greenawalt's personality from how he (was instructed to) tries to sell us his game.

All marketing is evil bull**** anyway. :P

Then again, I've seen evidence that Kaz isn't quite as humble as you might like to make out; I think he's well aware of the impact he's had, and he does have a mild air of arrogance about him sometimes...

Most people havent accomplished half of what he did, and are 10x more arrogant, id say you have room to be so in certain cases if you prove yourself which he has, and how could you blame him telling us its for our own good once ina w hile, when you have people complaining about how the branches of the trees dont sway the right direction in correlation with the wind and how the spectators boobs should be 3D.

But overall, given all he has done and plans to do, hes as close to earth as you can be, once again, compared to MR Definitive, who has virtually nothing to back him up, Kaz seems like a shy schoolboy, all Danawalt was missing was a white sequin glove a red leather jacket and a crotch grab to really be over the top.

Hmmm... I imagine setting the track to only have one sector, force it to be a closed (looped) track, and setting the amount of curves to minimum would force the system into creating a circle...?

;)

...just so we're all on the same page, Mr. Humble is the one saying to "expect perfection" and claiming his game is more appropriate for a so-far-completely-unknown future generation of systems, right?

Both PD and T10's heads have had bouts of marketing spin (as have nearly all people in the business of selling games, it kinda comes with the territory).

;)

Then a message box pops out and says "You must make a circuit out of atleast 2 sectors!" :)

I`m really looking forward to this new features.

I don`t think that we are going to create real race tracks with this thing, but some road courses in the nature we can cruise on and enjoy the great driving physics, the great graphics and the music/engine sounds.

Buuut, I think that this track maker enables us to create some old school tracks, like this (yes, I know its just a movie, but its still the old Spa):

Such a race track, the Ferrari 330 p4 and raw engine sounds and I`ll be satisfied :)

Yeah, I love such tracks more then the modern Tilkedroms ;)

I hope we are all realizing how much awesome this feature is going to bring to GT5. Not only are we going to have far more than 20 unique tracks (more like 30-ish now), there will be virtually infinite rally and road circuits. This will make just going for a drive have much more longevity.

Do you think we will have some official GTP tracks created and voted for inclusion in official GTP competitions.....mmm yummy!!

I'm wondering how the leaderboards would work for an infinate amount of tracks.
Probably won't get one.

First... agreed, Tilke tracks are boring.

Secondly, there's gotta be a way to "trick" the system into creating an oval, or something near to it. What I described makes sense; if you force the creator to make a closed-loop track, but tell it you want the minimal amount of turns to complete that... you should get something resembling a circle (although probably really small, heh). Maybe tell it to make each sector as long as possible, but with the minimal amount of curves? Hmmm.

Third, so you recognize this track creator won't allow us to have the power to modify individual portions, so recreating real-life tracks is out... but you think we'll be able to make old tracks? Where's the logic there?

Don't get me wrong; I am thrilled that I can take a favourite car, turn on my PS3, and just cruise, and every time, the road will be different. It'll probably become my regular go-to for a nice unwind after a long day. But I had something similar in Enthusia years ago... just not the user-defined parameters. And on dirt only :)

So how does this work?

Is it a random generator, essentially, but with user defined number of corners and the graphics theme?

It looks like a random generator with sliders for controlling general traits of the track like "curviness", "bankedness of turns" etc....

From my understanding, that's the basics of it. Apparently you have 4 user-inputs to characterize the tracks. The good point is: the track would be devided into 4 different sectors, and you can give different sets of inputs to each track sector.
You can also choose between closed loop of point to point course, with a max distance of 10 km.

Hoping these tracks can be knocked up pretty quickly.
It would be good to spring fresh tracks on a lobby full of people.

Hopefully staggered starts for point to point. An area where Forza's bugs with regard to online p2p really does hurt me.

If we could use the generator without leaving the lobby, that would be just great. If you have to get out though, only an invitee could generate and upload the tracks. But it seems quite fast, so you could just make a dozen before joining.

Ok, here's my top secret theory..

You know Tuscana has the "Tuscana Rally 2009" status in the game and we have Tuscana in the creator. So I bet there is a lot of point to point stages made as a "Rally Tuscana" Event (hell, maybe even with the editor + added more gorgeus environment + details).

So we have this environment to play with in the track creator now. I bet there are more too (guess), and if not yet, future DLC could be great. You'd get the environment for the creator + an official rally event to the GT mode. :)

Sounds plausible to me. For sure ptp being in the creator, there WILL be rally events with ptp stages. I can't imagine them being so dumb not to do that. Remember Loeb has visited the Headquarters many times. Surely he has given some weighty pointers at least :P

edit,

And about the ovals.. Actually could be quite fun to have an oval with elavation changes  (if the environmental topography is fixed).
