To be honest, that looks unexpectedly good and interesting, although I still think that the scenery is too bland (although not much more than the Toscana dirt track). I wonder if there will be themes to be unlocked that are more "carved" through mountains (a bit like the central section of Trial Mountain) rather than running in open areas. That's what I'm looking forward to see the most.

👍 It'd be nice to see something like the canyon roads we have here in Malibu and out in the desert.

The problem is the track is layed over the topography. If PD added an option as to how much the track follow the land, then you can do that quite easily. ie keep the track flat in one section instead of following the lay of the land and it should create a "canyon"

I thought there was an option for this when the break out sessions details were released

Mount Aso theme in action - hoping for a point to point option to unlock

At the very end of the vid right before the car spins, that thing would have LAUNCHED of that hill/jump. watch it again thinking about that right before the car spins and think about how fast he was going...
:drool::drool::drool:

epic!

You mean the car would be sent flying?

I didn't like this too much, I hope we can have some control over how steep the track is. I think you can see the elevation in the map. Because that track is a bit far fetched in terms of practical racing. You can't have hills that steep...

Note there are only 4 sections here, and how complex the turns are

Doesn't look like that great a circuit, to be honest. If the corners were a little more evenly-spaced around the entire circuit, it would be much better.

Also, some of those corners in he video - particularly in the early sections - are ridiculous. There's no way they'd ever be built, much less declared safe to drive on.

Agreed. Some people wanna create ridiculously tough tracks though, and I guess I see the value on that. That's part of the fun of having a track creator, creating crazy tracks and racing on something that would never be built by anyone slightly reasonable.
It's really not my style though, I will spend most of my course creating time trying to make more "realistic" tracks. But, anyhow, respect for the crazies who make tracks with 20mins lap time.

Can't wait to play the crazy tracks. Realistic tracks get boring after a while.:scared:

I swear the greenest grass on the planet lives inside GT5. The saturation on this game is way up.

I think it's an old trick to make the graphics seem a little better, even though they are awesome anyway.
You see that on TV stores all the time. They put saturation and brightness levels really high to make the image seem more impressive.

Oh, me too - but the circuit in that picture has a squared-off top half and a squiggly bottom half and so it just looks awkward. It's a bit like Michael Jackson and all his plastic surgery; the top half of his face was very masculine, but the bottom half was very feminine, which is why it didn't look right.

Well, as weird as he was, he did provide us with great fun, so, I guess your theory is flawed, right? Because that track, as weird as it is, seems to be sort of a...Thriller?

I hate the course maker; you should be able to draw your course. Don't like the total randomness.

Drawing your track from scratch, like in ModNation, with the graphics, physics and all the detail in GT5, would take a Blu-ray disc specifically for that and would probably take a bit too much HDD space.
Maybe we'll see it in PS4 or whatever.

That video is bad in my eyes.

I didn't like the video so much either. I think we should be able to control elevation changes a little better...well...maybe we are and this guy just didn't to such a good job - let's hope so.

Well I loved the elevation changes hmph. That's what makes the 'ring so good. I can already tell I will spend more time on randomly generated tracks than places like Laguna, Valley etc.

Maybe it's because I'm not european and 95% of the roads I see here are flat but whatever the cause, that track looked like a HEAP of fun.

:)

Well, the ring has elevation, but it's not as steep as the uphill sections in that made course, right?

And in Laguna Seca, there's huge steepness in that awesome downhill S, but it's a really slow corner. The uphill sections are long but not steep, so that's fine.

And before anyone argues that Spa's Eau Rouge is really steep...it really is, but there's a limit to it, because if the cars lose too much grip when the tracks levels, it's not exciting, it's just suicidal.

Elevation can be a great factor, but it has to be wisely used, I'd say.

But would you would agree with me if I said the corkscrew and eau rouge are the best parts of Laguna and Spa?

No, I don't mean like make it. On the screen where you select how many markers you want, you instead can have a pencil and do a simple outline. Than the game would just create it. That isn't hard, they've already made that (kinda). I don't mean to really create everything like Mod Nation Racers. Just a rough layout.

Definitely!
But, as I said, they were carefully crafted to be steep and not send the cars flying.
When using the course maker you don't have as much control as the creators of the aforementioned.

In that video we see crazy steep uphill sectors followed by tight curves, etc.
I wish we could prevent that, and as I said, maybe we can, and the guy who made the video, didn't.

Oh, got it.
That would be pretty great, I agree. I'm far from being a specialist on game design, etc. But maybe there's a technical reason why they couldn't do it. Or maybe they are saving it for GT6, hehe.

All that means is you have to brake for the peak, there are plenty of places like that in the motorsport world.

Well you can have large elevation changes but you can also change the sharpness of the corners and the track width. I would guess old mate had it set for a tight first half of the lap and then reduced the severity of the corners for the second half.

Which means you can pretty much generate any style of track you desire.
