Everything working fine here. Can't think of anything that bothers me in any way. Oh, 1 thing I was wondering about, is there any way to incorporate the alternative brake balance formula in to the Version 3 Quicktune page as you did for Version 2? Sometimes I prefer the alternative settings.

Great work as always!

Glad to hear the app is working well for you. I'm making a list of things I want to put into the next version so I'll add the brake balance to this list.

Just to let you know that the app is working perfectly on my Archos 7o internet tablet.

I have not been up long enough to try out any of the tunes yet, but I will get back to you later :)

Thank you very much to RDAardvark, and of course to oppositelock!

Thanks for letting me know the app works on your tablet. It's always nice to be able to add another device to the list.

Cheers!

I can only assume everyone using the app is too sensible: The ludicrous X2010 has aerodynamic settings way outside of what the app allows. I'll fix this in the next update which should arrive early in the new year - I'm having too much fun driving the Alfa TZ2 at the moment.

My first tune was with a Fiat 500 :) worked great eventually.

I could not get the gear settings the same in GT5 as it showed on the tablet, but I struggled along and eventually got it.

I am still unsure as to what the difference between the 3 types of settings are, but I will read through this thread and see if it tells me :)

Thanks again RDAardvark:tup:

Sometimes you have to change the Ratio Spread and Ratio Scale in order to make the gearing fit with the gearbox on your car. It's always best to reset to default as well. Remember also that the calculator does not calculate the final gear and the default value I picked may be out of range.

If by '3 types of settings' you are referring to the three versions of Quicktune, then all you really need to know is that the most mature version is version 3. Oppositelock has refined his calculations somewhat and verison 3 will calculate aero settings and toe settings that the previous versions did not. Some people have a preference for the older versions and that's why they remain in the app. For instance, someone discovered version 1, when fed certain values, generates excellent drifting tunes.

Glad you like the app and if you have any suggestions or find any problems, spelling mistakes, etc, please let me know.

Thank you for all of your help. It is very much appreciate :)

I have now completed 5 tunes with the app. They drive perfectly for me.

I worked on the the Ratio Spread and Ratio Scale to allow the gearing to correctly fit.

My method (ATM) is to check and input the stock default top speed and final gear. Calculate ratios. Check if gear 1 and 5 can be adjusted to fit. If not then return to the calculator and adjust the Ratio Spread and Ratio Scale (down on one and up on the other), recalculate, check again. Rinse and repeat.

When I have the all gears fitting the output of the app, take it for a test drive, see how it goes, adjust the final gear to a different top speed depending on the the track.

My only problem with this method is that I am just guessing at how much and why I am adjusting the Ratio Spread and Ratio Scale.

It is far better than guessing (and getting wrong) every single aspect of tuning I ever did on my own!

If you ever need any help with the app, pls let me know. I do have lots of time on my hands....

I've outlined my preferred proceedure for fitting gear ratios in the Quick Tune thread. I feel it's best to first play with the final drive and top speed sliders in the in-game screen in order to alter the allowed adjustment ranges. If that fails, then resort to the scale and spread features. Typically, I find that scale and spread are truly only necessary with extremely slow kei type cars, extremely fast cars like the X2011, or cars which rev over 10,000 RPM.

The app works on my Samsung Epic 4G. I think that is the Galaxy S one. I don't know much about phones.

What confused me the most was the thing "Triumph Spitfire" name at the top of the screen when I opened it. I read what to do and everything to use the app, it just confused me as to what I was doing because something was already there.
Just, saying that it kinda is confusing at first by having something already there. Maybe make it to where it is a blank spec-sheet at first and you can enter the name of the car your are tuning instead of having to look at "Triumph Spitfire" at the top of the screen in moderate confusion. But that is just my opinion

Thank you oppositelock, I have had a quick read through. I now feel a little more comfortable with setting up gears.

@RDAardvark is there anyway to put helpfiles or help buttons on the android apps? Or even links to pages(like the one linked to by oppositelock above? It might make your life easier in the long run if it does go commercial (ie you will not have to reply to a billion emails about how to set gears/susp/lsd etc!

Thanks for the feedback! 👍

There is a very basic help dialog in the app but this needs expanding. The gear calculator will need a help file of its own and this is on my list of things to do. Please remember this is beta software so there will be many rough edges!

I'm planning a new release for the start of the new year so I will take both of your comments on board. Currently the app can count the number of times you've used it so perhaps I can introduce a different welcome screen if you've not used it many times.

@musicalartist: The app is set to load the last setup you used. If you haven't used it before, then it will load a default one which happens to be the Spitfire. This is one of the cars I have included with the app. I'll revise the original post but you are the first to raise this as an issue.

I've found an error Bug in the application. Your 65% limit on weight distribution is too low, the Fiat Punto HGT Abarth has a front weight distribution of 66%.

Only found this out to do the European Hot Hatch seasonal event, I haven't found any more issues with the app.

Yeah, that's my fault. There's also an issue with the Evora at 39%. Unfortunately when I wrote the formulas I hadn't yet found a car that wasn't between 40% and 65%, and I had to choose an operational range, so that was it. Rewriting everything to accommodate two (known) cars would be a major PITA. So just round it down to 65%. Close enough.

There'll be a new version in the New Year, which should give you the option to include car sets. If you've been on oppositelock's thread for his Quick Tune spreadsheet, you will see that Rabbidmaggot has kindly uploaded over 500 Quick Tune spreadsheets for us all to share and use. With his permission I've extracted all the goodness from these spreadsheets and will be working on a way to access all these cars in the app. Have over 500 cars in one settings file would be a nightmare so I'll be breaking it all up into sets. Probably by drivetrain, manufacturer and age to start with.

Have a great Christmas everyone! :)

Thank you for all of your efforts RDAardvark. I am really enjoying using the app as it is, but I cant wait to give the new version a spin!

Merry Christmas RDAardvark, and to all :)

Gear Ratio Limit not taking a valid Formula GT setup. my 1st gear is 6.837 and the app wouldn't take it. other wise a great app. works so far on rooted att captivate.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Only by exposing the app to more and more cars will we iron out the bugs and set sensible parameters.

There'll be an interim release tomorrow with an updated version coming shortly after that. I'll fix the gear ratio limits in tomorrow's release.

Cheers. 👍

Version 0.80.1 now available

Minor update to prevent app expiring on 1st January.
Also changed upper limits on gear ratio entry screen (see Poontanir's post)

Hi RDAardvark, I cant find the link to the new version. (OP shows a link *** Updated 22 November 2011 not sure if this link is now the correct one.).

BTW, I made a tune for the GT-R (R34) TC with the app, using quicktune 2. The car went from being a whale, to being a pure race car! Thank you again for the app!

(Still having problems setting gears, but I am struggling through :) )

Sorry about that: I've now updated the OP.
As a shortcut, you can download the app from here.

Really good to hear that you are using the app and finding success with oppositelock's Quick Tune calculations.

I'm working on some new help text for the gear calculator screen. To be honest I've not really used it as I'm driving in a 'tuning prohibited' series at the moment. But do read oppositelock's instructions on this. If you do find a method that works for you, do let us know so we can spread the word.

Thank you RDAardvark! (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=6427977#post6427977)

I have just completed the new 650pp seasonal event using the GT-R (R35) TC, tuned using the app. Running against the 2J!!!

It took me lots of tries on RH tyres (altering the final gear between runs, to get gear changes at the correct place on the track ie straight after the corner 2nd-3rd, while still maintaining a high enough top speed), the best I could do was still 6 seconds behind the white rocket. I changed up to RS and beat the white rocket by 9 seconds!!! :happydance:

I think I will go back to RH or even RM to see if I can catch the leader!

What this app has shown me is that I do not need to change my cars to overpower the opposition, I just have to tune up.

Downloaded the new app, I will be trying itt later today with the FGT championships I think!

FYI I used quicktune 2 because it suits my driving style, I am not a good driver, but this makes me a little better!

Yet another monster made with your app. Made a 256HP Elise sport run circles around 500-600HP RM cars at TGTT. Posted a consistent 1.11.xxx lap time.

The only thing I've noticed is the turn in for the cars isn't aggressive enough. Sometimes I have to slightly tap the e-brake to force oversteer. Any remedy for this?

Try running zero front toe. I was always hesitant to write formulas that spat out any amount of front toe specifically because I feel it ruins steering response, regardless of whether it's positive or negative. If that doesn't work try loosening the LSD decel.

Front toe is already at 0 so will mess with LSD. Thank you for the advice.

Loved watching Zondas and Bugattis trying to chase down the little Elise.

Liking the app this far though I think I need more reading into how the calculations work to really understand what I am setting. But, working very well so far on my EVO4G and Galaxy Tab 10.1. The first pages for setup scale better than the others for the QuickTune on the large screen I think. Not sure if something is set differently there.

Thanks for the feedback - The larger screen devices is one area in which I'm struggling. Not owning one is a big disadvantage (Santa didn't bring me one :() but there are emulators in the development kit which I need to use more.

So fat it looks good and it is completely useable. Maybe doesn't look as pretty as it could or have optimum real estate usage but nothing really effects actually using it for what it does.

If possible, I'd like to see a "help" link, either a button somewhere or a menu option that will take me to this thread and oppositelock's so I can easily read up on how all the settings work and the differences between the tune calculators.

I can think of some other things layout-wise, but maybe those might be better served if I doodle sorting and send it your way. :D

Excellent job on this!
