@kebabs and MikaelK
Thanks for the feedback and encouragement.

I've been kind of disappointed by the lack of comments on the app and have been thinking of dropping it, but I'll keep it going for now.

......

So, if there is anything else that you can think of that needs tidying up, rewording, reformatting or generally changed, please let me know.

I can follow your 'disappointment' due to the lack of feedback from a larger audience than you currently receive...
I just hope that you at least enjoy the ongoing work of adapting and perfection'ing the application to fill your own needs and ideas. Then will 'the rest of us' just have to be grateful to what you put to display. 👍

As long as you want to continue the project, I will sure continue to provide you with my comments and suggestions, as I find the app very useful and needed.

Well... Onto the comments/suggestions: :sly:

I promised a while ago, to do a random 'verification' of the values generated within the app in comparison to opposites spreadsheets.
So far, I haven't had any QT that did not match the values that the spreadsheet came up with. I think you can rest assured about that.. 👍
This has been compared with around 7-8 QT's on all versions (v1.1, v2, v3).

In regards to tidying..:

  • The reminder for unsaved data tend to be a bit to 'aggressive'.. Even if we just open the 'parts'-page to look and then close it again, it will trigger on next click of 'next'-button.. (maybe it has some to do about 'saving' everytime we exit that page.?? If no easy fix, don't bother :sly:)

  • As for 'natural flow' of data-input on the front-page, it is a bit backward to enter the spring-rates (default, min, max) before values for Ride-heights (min, max), as GT5 has it listed the other way round.

  • I will also suggest, that 'ballast' and 'aero'-values should be moved to be shown on the 'tune'-page, instead of on the 'Misc'-page...
I reckon there should be space enough if squeezed in below LSD-settings and the buttons...
Then the 'Misc'-page could also be simplified into a 'Notes'-page...
If there are problems finding the space, and a scrolling 'tune'-page is unwanted, it could be considered if the app should be allowed to be "full screen" (hiding statusbar in top). This could maybe be a choice to the user in a 'settings-menu'.. :sly:

Other than that, I do not have any suggestions to improve the app at the moment.
It becomes harder and harder to improve what is near-perfect.. 👍 :D

I really appreciate you taking the time to do this and it is very reassuring that there were no anomalies. I've only tested a few as we've moved from Version 1.1, 2 and now 3 of oppositelock's Quick Tune spreadsheet, so your extensive teting is much appreciated.

I'll investigate this: I think there are a few other places where this could go, but I had noticed if you clear a Tune (or have a blank tune and hit 'QuickTune') it then counts this as unsaved changes. Quite annoying really.

  • As for 'natural flow' of data-input on the front-page, it is a bit backward to enter the spring-rates (default, min, max) before values for Ride-heights (min, max), as GT5 has it listed the other way round.

I'd not realised that the Spring Rate and Ride Height were the wrong way round - It is that long since I input a new car into the app! I'll fix this as soon as possible.

  • I will also suggest, that 'ballast' and 'aero'-values should be moved to be shown on the 'tune'-page, instead of on the 'Misc'-page...

I'll have a look at moving these but I really don't like scrolling screens. The aero settings may just squeeze in but I really don't think the ballast will.

I like the idea of hiding the status bar if the user wants to: The next version I release will have a 'Settings' option in the menu so this could be added.

Other than that, I do not have any suggestions to improve the app at the moment.

Thank you for your testing and your kind comments!

I don't bother with the GT tuning pages, I always create and store my tunes with your app. I stopped using it for a while when I heard GT5vII was due and there could be issues with new physics but carried on using the cars I'd already tuned and they felt better than ever.

All my tunes are stored in the app, the only time I use anything else has been when oppositelock has made a new tuning sheet, but even then I put the tunes back in to the app on my phone when you update it.

I did compare a few tunes between the spreadsheet and the app and never found any discrepancies. Sorry for not letting you know that sooner.

I can't see GT5 giving us any more than the 3 tuning screens so the work you and oppositelock put in to creating the tuning sheet and app is far more useful to me than anything I can expect from PD.

Personally I'd still pay for the app. 👍

I wouldnt drop support for it, I find it very useful for a quick tune when I'm too lazy to fire the pc up and use oppositlock's spreadsheet, Both get me a good general setup with which to start tinkering with.

Just to let you all know that an updated version of the app will be available in the next few days. There are a lot of changes and I want to make sure that most of the bugs are ironed out before I release it.

Beta has expired, and exits, anyway I can still use the app?

Sorry about that - I was hoping to get the next version out well before this happened.

There is no easy way to get it to work. The new version should be out in the next day or two.

Version 0.79.126 is now available

*** Important: This version changes your Car database: Before installing the new version, please export your current car database and also backup your tunes.

Summary of changes:
  1. Added: A 'quick-copy' button which is visible when adjusting the value of a component. It will only appear when the component is one of a pair, e.g. Front Spring Rate/Rear Spring Rate.
  2. Added: 'Settings' option to the pop up menu.
    - Allows you to show or hide the new 'quick-copy' button.
    - Allows you to permit the app to change the Quick Tune suspension level using 0.1 increments. Use this at your own risk as rounding errors may create invalid tunes.
    - Allows you to pick a default Quick Tune version to use (You won't be prompted)
    - Allows you to pick a preferred measurement for the torque value.
    - Allows you to pick a setting for what values will appear when you clear the 'Tune' screen.
  3. Change: Order of Ride Height has been moved to reflect the order it appears in GT5 (Thanks MikaelK)
  4. Added: Max Aerodynamics settings have been added to the 'Main' screen
  5. Moved: Aerodynamics settings are now on the 'Tune' screen (moved from the 'Misc' screen)
  6. Added: Quick Tune will now calculate Aero settings.
  7. Added: Check for nonsense values on the Main screen - Disable Quick Tune and Gear calc if these are found. (Thanks MikaelK)
  8. Change: When editing the torque value, the app will change it from ft-lb back to your preferred measurement.
  9. Change: On the Tune screen, the other value for 'torque split' is now calculated so the total is 100. (Thanks to MikaelK)
  10. Fix: Minimum values for LSD settings are now correctly set to 5.
  11. Fix: Front weight distribution must be in the range 40%-60% (as per oppositelock's instructions)
  12. Fix: After a Quick Tune is performed, tune name is now reset to 'Unnamed Tune'
  13. Added: Functions to scan the integrity of your Cars and Tunes databases once every time app is run.
  14. Fix: Corrected code so that when the back key is used on the 'Tune' screen, the data is then correctly restored when you return to the 'Tune' screen.
  15. Fix: Check that user entry is not blank in component dialog (Thanks MikaelK)

There are a load of other minor changes and tidy-ups included.

Please let me know how you get on. Your feedback, even if it is just "works on xxx phone", is important to me and lets me know that more than one person is using it!

the new update dont runs on Galaxy S 2.
The app stops and close. Sorry is just to inform you.

Sorry to hear this: I've not got one so I can't test it!
However, the problem may lie in your car setups file or tunes file. There may be something ive overlooked. Could you send the files to me please?
aardvarkapps@gmail.com

Ok. Soon as possible i will send to you te files.
Can o tell me in what folder is to look for.

At first do an 'export' from the 'Car'-page AND a 'Backup' from the 'Tune'-page (he need both!).
You will then find those 2 files on your SD-card in the root, named GT5Cars.csv and GT5Tunes.bak.

EDIT: Sorry... My brain was suffering from a collapse...
This is of course not possible to you, if the app won't run at all.. :(

At what point does it stop and close?
On start, when loading a car, or when clicking 'next' or 'parts'-button?

👍 Mikael for answering for me!

Just two questions to add: is this a new install or did you use the app previously?
And if you did use it previously, did you backup/export before upgrading?

I think I've managed to replicate the problem by clearing the application data on my phone, thus replicating a first time install.

Let me look into this and see if I can find the cause.

In the meantime, if you have never installed this app before, please wait for a new version to be released.

Version 0.79.129 is now available

Many apologies to all new users who found the application crashed when loaded. I've worked hard to fix and test this problem and think that it is solved - Please let me know how you get on.

All users of previous versions should find the new version will work with their existing data.

Please let me know how you get on.

Working great on motorola defy with android 2.2.1.

👍 very glad to hear this. And cheers for letting me know.

Anyone out there using the app on a small screen (eg wildfire) or a big tablet? I've not been able to test it under Ice Cream Sandwich (android 4) yet either.

Version 0.79.142 is now available

Minor bugfix and minor feature update.

  • Created subfolder on SD card for backup of Tunes and Car export files (MikaelK)
  • Fix: Max value for front weight Dist=65 on QuickTune parameter screens
  • Fix: Changed text on Export function to reflect new export folder
  • Fix: For a three speed car, Transmission screen showed 8 gears! (MikaelK)
  • Fix: Crashes when generating gearing for 3 or 4 speed cars. (MikaelK)
  • Update: Updated help text to explain settings menu option.
  • Add: Check that spring rates on 'Car' screen are valid

Nice Update, glad its fixed the 65% weight distribution, works great on HTC desire with 2.2, now when are you going to put it out of beta so I can buy a copy?

Glad to head it is working well for you.
At the moment, I'd like to do some more work on the data validation within the application. I don't think any features will be added unless oppositelock comes up with version 4.

I cannot see the app ever being sold: I can't sell it because it contains oppositelock's formulae, but I am going to try to release it on Android Market as 'donateware'. This will be done only with oppositelock's permission.

Anyone spotted any problems? Any typos, grammar or any other stupid mistakes?
There's another minor update coming soon, which simply does some further checking on the import and restore options.

I was considering making up a car import file which could contain say 20 or 30 of the most popular cars in GT5. If the interest was there, and if you good people would help, we could create some sets of import data for the app. For example, a file that would contain only rally cars. Other sets could contain only touring cars, only vintage cars, or whatever way you think the cars could/should be grouped. We could even create a group of cr4p cars! Just an idea!

I can now confirm that the app is running without issues on a Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1... Even that the text does look a bit big... ;)

Everything seems to be working perfectly on my Sony Xperia Ray, my only slight issue is tickboxes, but that is more than likely due to my stupidly high density screen :dopey:

Hey there. Sorry for the silence on thoughts. Just noticed (after using this like forever) that there's no option for sports flywheel or single plate clutch.
Another small thing was the names of cars, when loading specs. When selecting the car for example...the skyline kpgc whatever, will not have the full name in view on the load option, any chance it could scroll?

p.s i agree with pop-up. It is a stupidly long car name lol.
Oh, and it's stil working fine on my Samsung Galaxy S (I9000).
