GT6 visuals

On a personal level I'd like the crowd/spectators to look better. At the moment they are pants! I know they are unimportant for game play but if the visuals are to be improved do it to the complete enviroment not just cars. Even the crowd on the above pit scene look really bad.

Need to bring back that Human Element from GT4 I can't tell you how impressed I was every going around Grand Crayon and that one guy was on the road and would run out of the way.

Honestly GT4 and GT3 had more life in them that GT5 ever could.

As far as modeling goes I think the cars will be pretty much the same as the premiums in dealership/photo travel quality. Other than that I'm expecting a lot of work done to the tracks, higher resolution and/or higher anti-aliasing, smooth shadows, much better smoke/dirt/particle effects, better lighting etc etc.

It's quite difficult to imagine what it's gonna look like, but it will have to look stunning, especially considering it's been longer between PS3 and PS4 than between the previous consoles. Yes, there are other things than graphics that are important, but I'd say the graphics are not less important than any of those things.

The thing I care more about visuals is field of view. And I hope the game has an option to adjust it to meet the user's desire. I for one would like a more realistic FoV on all views.
I don't care for "sense of speed" I think that ruins perception on the track.

My visuals wishlist (Assuming this is for the ps4):

Higher resolution textures (Duh)

Volumetric Lighting (Imagine tracks like the ring at early dawn with this  It would really pull the already solid lighting model together)

Higher Quality Shadows WITH FILTERING (The lack of filtering is the biggest thing making them look blocky)

The heat distortion effect from Gt3 returning

Weather and realtime shadows available on all tracks

All "premium" quality cars (Duh XD)

More variety in time.

Particle effects rendered at full resolution.

Higher Antialiasing

60 Fps

Higher polygon count on tracks.

A sense of speed closer to Gt2 (Might not be the most realistic but it is fun)

More "activity" in tracks (IE: Falling leaves, people ducking out of the way like on Grand Canyon in Gt4, ect)

More grass billboards where grass is.

Tessellation (Applied to cars to remove any jagged polygons close up and maybe add extra bits of detail)

A higher quality damage model (The one in GT5 is pretty laughable due to the lack of real change on the vehicle)

Less Zombie Gordon ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YwbAQn4VXo )

A color pallet closer to that in Gt3 (they had it perfect at that time).

As a PC gamer yes the ps3 hardware and GT5 graphics both suck. Don't understand why fanboy got so offended this way when people complaining about the outdated RSX and limited DRAM the PS3 has. Its a freaking out-dated console and it is at its end cycle, admit it. Want better graphics? Get a better console! (PS4 indeed)

Saw people saying this might be a bad HDMI cable issue. Since when changing your video cable can also change the textures of a game? Those guys probably won't even realize the new retina iPad has more resolution than their "1080p HDTV" .... sigh .....

No if you want better Graphics get you a already built high-end PC if I'm not mistaken those things still end up being better than newer consoles that get released anyways. Plus unlike Sony's Playstation you'll always be able to upgrade to fit what you need unlike PS where you wait every 5-7 years for a new console.

You got the point, but you do realize Gran Turismo is a PS exclusive series right? There's always nothing wrong with pushing the manufacturer and demanding better hardware. I am not asking for top notch hardware inside the new console (because no one wants to spend top notch dollars on it), but it needs to be something much better! I mean, look at the rain drops in cockpit view, what is that? Am I playing Minecraft on PS3?

Maybe this time 50+ cars on the track?

The old "Vision Gran Turismo" video released just after GT4 had more than 16 cars on track, that's for sure.

EDIT: Bonus vid:

Also, the vision changed at some point:

My guess is the original vision was more a GT4 HD with extra complexity, but they decided to go with something more visually attractive. Maybe.

Would like to get this thread back on topic. Now that we have a better idea of the processing power of the PS4, are there any current PC racing games we can use as reference to see what GT6 might look like? Are there any PC games that can be used as benchmark for GT6 since PS4 is basically PC-based now?

It would all be speculation of course and I'm probably oversimplifying it as PS4 will be optimized and developers will push the hardware, but would like to see some graphical representation if what the GT6 visuals could be.

Project CARS.

That looks amazing, exactly what I was looking for!

If for PS4, but thus far I expect it on PS3 and PS3 isn't going to render fifty cars with car modeling and physics comparable to GT5's. There's absolutely no way PS3 has that much extra processing might in reserve. It's not as if GT5 was only using 30% of PS3's power. On the current generation, sixteen is probably all that we can expect of GT6.

I don't think its a secret that I'm in the 'GT6 on PS3' camp. So I wonder how they can improve the graphics on the next release while the hardware remains the same.

A drop to 720p would be fantastic as the frame rate should be stable - but also trackside assets could be radically improved. Now I'm not asking for Skyrim style trees that sway in the wind - but maybe something like Red Dead Redemption pulls off remarkably well. In other words no more cardboard cut-outs.

Another thing. I can't confirm this as I deleted it ages ago, but I seem to remember GTAcademy having motion blur at the edges of the screen. Surely this is an innovative (for PD) way to ease the drain on the graphics processor? Which could reduce pop-ups, and give all competitor cars headlight beams at night.

The above refinements should also reduce loading times too. Heck maybe cars will actually get dirty in all their LOD's.

I think for ps3 they can get things looking better with a drop to 720p and drop total cars from 16 to 12 or even 10.

:scared: After seeing on the last page, how incredible it looked seeing 20 cars driving past, you dare say "let's go back to the prehistoric days of GT3?" :(

Please, if you're not being serious, include some sort of "funny" emoticon, or something to take the serious edge out of your comment.

Comparing GT5's visuals to some other games (Call of Duty,) I realized that GT5's graphics are really good.

The sixth installment is going to be an improvement. I can't believe they'd tone back their quality for any reason. I honestly believe they'll get more cars on the track, and make it look better.

I guess GT6 will be just a slightly improved GT5. It won't be such a step like from GT3 to GT4, where they changed the whole game and the engine.
Just compare GT5 to GTHD, that was released 4 (?) years before, it looks even better than GT5, but thats because there's only 1 car at the time on the track. I guess the engine uses the PS3 hardware maybe up to 90% or even more. So I don't think there will be big improvements. Hopefully the tearing will stop, though.

What I hope for, is improved singleplayer with a campaign that's more interesting to do. It's the same idea behind it since GT1, just do the events that are there to win cars and money. End. I think it's possible to make it look much more interesting.
And don't forget the online gaming. Don't misunderstand me, GT5's online is good, but it really lacks matchmaking (just look at GT5P, the matchmaking was beautiful because of the events).
That's why I think GT6 won't come for PS4 if they don't make the same game for both consoles.

MrMelancholy15 --- I mentioned those things because I don't know how else they will get more power out of the PS3. At the very least a drop to 720p should free up some juice.

Come on people the PS3 still has plenty of life left in it and I am 110% sure GT6 will be released on the PS3. GT5 is a mess because they simply ran out of time. I know what you guys are thinking, how can they run out of time if the game has been in development for 5 years?

PD had many different ideas for the next GT game and it is pretty obvious when you watch the old videos they released. All of those builds looked playable meaning they had spent a considerable amount of time making them but for whatever reason they got scraped and so they went back to the drawing board. TDU and PGR3 might have had something to do with this. I say the GT5 we finally got was probably only in development for 2 years. (also it didn't help was fans demanding damage so late in development)

In the last few months leading up to the deadline they just put everything they had into a box and called it a finished game. So what we had got was a new unoptimized game engine, GT4HD (their original plan), GT HD and finally GT5P all sellotaped together.

GT6 will take less time to develop since they have a game engine ready and also have many assets from GT5. So really all they have to do is optimize the engine (which I don't think they had the chance to do with GT5) and then simply create more content.

MARK MY WORDS GT6 WILL RUN A LOT BETTER! AND WILL LOOK BETTER! LOL

ps
I have a sore head so sorry if what ever I wrote doesn't make sense lol.

A GT game on PS4 should hopefully look much better.

Than Project Cars? I have my doubts to be honest,Just wait till they release it ,it looks stunning now by the time they release it ,it will look even more impressive.

I am expecting something on another level.

Here is video comparison of pCARS Build 377 and GT5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJhitWfQlr8

pCars is running on PC with similar hardware to PS4. Now imagine what PD could do with a GPU that is probably more than 10 times powerful than the PS3s GPU.

Yeah but it also looks better with the higher end PCs that have better specs than the PS4 plus the fact it's still Pre Alpha,I'd love to be surprised though

It won't look much different on a higher end PC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1T35CkXJcA

Pre-Alpha level it is looking good but I don't think there will be much a step to final version.

Anyway I expect a GT game on PS4 to look much better than pCARS does on the most expensive gaming PC you can buy. Disappointing if it doesn't.

Aiming alittle too high there mate  ,I'd genuinely be surprised if it comes close to PCARS, especially the rain effects and the environment.

Hopefully they sort out the way the 'camera' reacts to light. I thought it was meant to be through the eyes of a driver, but they decided to treat it as a camera lens, so driving on snow in the sun, the human eye can SEE the road! where as in GT5 you cannot see a thing! I could not even drive these silly tracks, and its not just the snow, the engine was not at all good at showing Specular maps, everything is super bright and not realistic.
