DON'T TRUST A GHOST!!!

I didn't realize that this ghosted Costa Rican was the one that hit me at turn 1.
When I saw him ahead of me, as I approached the next curves, I figured "This person has paused his game. Ignore him, and carry on as usual".
Nope. He was visually ghosted, but not really.

Can any of you explain what happened here? I have no clue.

I can't explain it, but I can confirm that there is a similar glitch in single player mode, too, since the last update. In many races I've seen exactly one car visually ghosted (but solid if you have contact with it; I tried that out). And it was always the second to last car on the grid.

I had hoped PD had removed it with the latest patch...

Think it’s a glitch. Not seen it personally myself but I have seen it this week on some streams.

What I don’t understand is did you and that Costa Rican driver have some previous issues from a past race? T1 they hit, T3 looks like you held your line and they drove into you and then into the chicane it looks like they pissed at you and just went full speed into you.

Haha PD probably totally unaware of this issue.

No issues. I don't know who that person is. My best guess is that the punt he gave me at the bus stop was because he thought I was trying to rough him up, not realizing that from my perspective, he was a ghost.

I would rather they didn't have ghosting at all.
I'm not sure how ghosted cars even fit into a "real driving simulator".

Shame on me: I was unfaithful to my Gr4 Ferrari in Race B qualifying and betrayed it with a dirty GT-R. Because that one is still more than a second faster after all.

To make up for my despicable behaviour, I drove its big sister round Autopolis. And boy, is it fun. Looks great, sounds great, and it's awsome to drive. Very understeery on acceleration, a bit snappy off throttle, but still... super quick through the final technical sector, where I either flew off track or blew past my previous Porsche ghost like it was frozen onto the track.

Admittedly, beforehand I had taken a look at the world rankings where I had expected to see only Porsches... which I didn't.

I refuse to drive the GT-R this week, and my qually time shows it. Currently at a low 2:30. There’s another .5 in there somewhere, but that’s the best I’ll be able to do with it. Quite a long lap to nail perfectly. The 458 is so slow compared to the Nissan’s, that I lose time on the straights, while in the slip!!

I'm leaning towards it being a bug. Not sure if it was in Sport or 7, but there have been instances where someone gets ghosted while serving a penalty, but they still have the collision box for a brief moment... So anyone right behind the penalized car unfortunately collides with the ghosted car.

Anyone looking for some fun racing, come check out DRWF. We race on Fridays at 9 pm EST. We do 2 each of the daily races and a couple bonus races. This week we are running the Ford Roadster @ Fishermans Ranch and the Jeep Willys @ Tsukuba. Check out our thread in the online section. I'll be hosting this week so send me a FR to see the lobby as it's friend's only. Hope to see some new faces out there.

This started after the last update. All week at Sardegna I was seeing people who ghosted for extended periods. I followed one guy who was a ghost the entire race. I don’t know if he was still solid or not because he was too fast for me and I never got close enough to touch him. It was as if he were a living metaphor . . .

Yep, it's a recent bug. I was ghosted for a whole race at Sardegna. I can tell you I was still hit-able as the guy in P2 generously showed me as he hit me in T1 off the track.

No, it stopped happening in sport mode in a much earlier update. I haven’t had to do an oil change for months. I posted in here when I first noticed it.
I actually had to change oil on beetle & scirocco before last 2 manu races, and i thought they had stopped it as well, if it wasnt for the fact that i needed to mess with my livery,i probably would have not saw it, so i am not sure that it was removed as i had just changed the oil at start of series

I’ve done at least 10 Race C this week in my RSR. No oil degradation. Not sure what’s happening.

Me too, but I’ve been changing oil anyway every few races because I noticed oil degradation a couple weeks ago after a few of the longer races. I have no idea if I need to, and I may be paranoid, but it’s a cheap way to make sure I don’t lose even a few HP in a BoP race.

Why did we become under the impression that oil didn't degrade in Sport mode? I remember this being said a while back I don't recall a source for it or if it was mentioned in a PD update.

I mentioned it here first. It wasn’t ever announced by PD as far as I know, but I only play sport mode and I haven’t changed oil for many months and none of my cars have been below “excellent”, including my Manu cars which have done a LOT of kms.

My understanding of oil degradation is that it happens when you're driving a car anywhere other than in the Sport mode.
So, if you're practicing in time trial mode, or doing races against the AI, the oil will wear.

If you only drive a car in Sport mode, there should be no issue. But if you enter a Sport mode race in a car that has degraded oil, it will be a factor, because the BoP sets your horsepower based on a percentage of your available power.

At least, that's how I think it works. The game doesn't actually tell us.

*One way to know for sure, would be to drive the hell out of a car offline, and ruin the oil as much as you can, then enter a Sport mode race with it, and see if the horsepower your given for the race is the same as a rented version of the same car.
Someone else can try it. I don't want to put in the time. :indiff:

Holy cow, what a set of races!

Most notable to me is that Race B is going to be more than 7 minutes long for a change, that's something that is long overdue.
And Race A should take about 6 minutes! What the heck is that?!

As for oil changes. I heard people saying it doesn’t matter so I stopped doing but then I heard some saying it’s still applicable so I actually don’t know if we do or don’t need to change oil. I still change oil on my cars just as a precaution, but I just wish they made it more easier to see when oil needs changing and to change the oil, like in the race lobbies.

I like the look of the new Daily races. Race C could be fun with the tyre wear and mandatory tyres. Not sure why they limited it to x cars, might as well just make a 1 car make race as the Porsche will be the car to use. Just hope that hybrid system doesn’t come into play again.
Daily B could be fun.
Daily A I don’t know the car so….

I wouldn’t mind seeing a VGT limited race. Quite a range of cars to pick but nobody uses them in the Gr1

Monday I bought the GT-R Nismo and use it only for this week's Race A. Never drove it outside daily races. Oil got slightly used after just a few hundred km. So yes it does matter.

Couldn't agree more.

Interesting races for next week. Might try my hand at Brand's Hatch. But I'm in a bit of a pickle with the game right now because they dropped the CLK and the Ferrari at the same time. One car I've been wanting for a long time and a car I 'need' to finally get that trophy out of the way. So it's either spending my time on the grind races or accept that I have to wait another 3/4 months for one of those two cars. It kind of sucks to have to choose to spend the time I have for gaming either on some grinding or just doing some daily races. But that's a rant for another thread haha.

Great variety of races :dopey:

I've been waiting for an F1500T-A race again! Didn't expect it to be Race A though. Have we ever had a car that fast for Race A?

I can confirm I've put hundreds of miles on various cars that I own in Sport Mode, and haven't had to change oil for any of them. Not only that, but if I take a car that I've been using outside of Sport Mode that has "worn" oil, and race it in Sport Mode, it reconditions the oil to "new" again without having to change it.

- Suzuka+F1500T: yeah no thanks. I'm already fed up of Suzuka+McLaren MP4/4 lap time challenge, since this time I can't even get a silver. These 2 cars are too fast for me. I can't imagine the madness in Race A.

(Why can't they give us another Race A with any road car to tune? Last time on Monza it was fun)

- Brands Hatch GP....finally!!

- Can't say anything about Race C since I don't do these mini-endurance.
