I'm still astonished how much I've learned and improved over the course of less than one year, by just wanting to do exactly that. And there are lots of different ways to learn, and the great part is that everyone can find his own path.
All in all, I like that old farts like us can still compete...😆
Great encouragement! I've always like driving games over other "computer" games. I watch my son play other titles and my brain just can't follow what's he's doing; it's so fast! However I can twiddle a wheel and push some pedals so I think GT plays well into the hands of us older farts.
Regarding your problems on the quads, don't forget your tires are cold the first time through.
Yeah, I'm actively trying to remember that after a number of first lap issues. Right now, as long as I can get through the first lap, I'm usually okay... First lap is where I currently do or die.. One thing I am improving on in my race craft, as I do more online races, is anticipating other driver's action. There is still a lot to learn and I've been caught out many time by drivers in front braking much sooner than I would have expected or taking entirely different lines around turns leading to collisions. I'm trying to give much more room now; to maintain on track, even if I lose a spot as one spot is still much quicker to recover from than crashing.
To the comments earlier about racing at the top/bottom of a respective class, As one playing in the space currently, I would not say it is more dirty (that varies more depending on time of day), but that more incidents happen because there is a much greater diversity of driving styles. Which leads to failures in driver anticipation of others around them. Mid DR, I think most drivers are on a similar groove at that point so there are less surprises.
I had a great race this morning. An eclectic lobby of both DRs and Cars. These are the kinds of lobbies you can get when you race at 2am.
My C and B lobbies with the A and A+ drivers have been at 1am or later. Only weirdos are up at that time! So far I found morning/mid day drivers to be the most respectful, early evening to be the most aggressive, and late evening/middle of the night to be WTF lobbies.
But the ultimate question is, will driving in my GrumpyOldMan socks make me a better driver, just like Grumpy here? 😁
