Is if me or are A lobbies waaaay dirtier than B lobbies? I rarely had issues in the B lobbies. But the minute I started getting into A lobbies everyone seems to be trying to run me off the road. Was in 3rd at DT and some asshole in a Huracan just decided to take me out at the round about. Trying to pass where they shouldn't etc.

My usual 2 races for Daily Race 3 tonight. Almost improved my qualifying time by a decent chunk but ran wide on the final turn and ruined that.

Race 1 is in a room with maybe a 60/40 split of A and B ranked drivers. I'm in P11 to start and long story short, I stunk up the race track. 2 off tracks at turn x was not helping. Especially when I tried to rejoin and ran directly into the barrier thing near turn 6. Oof... I finish P14 and, yeah, not my finest hour again at this track.

Next race I'm in a room with all of my B ranked people. They do exist! I start P12 this time and hope for the best. Nothing really happens in this race. I keep moving up my position by passing people when they were pitting. I wasn't paying attention and all of a sudden 2 drivers pass me at one point. The pace of them was crazy, but my guess was they were on newer tires than I had. I do finish P5 after one of the 2 drivers that passed me goes off on the final turn. I even got a clean race bonus.

Overall, I think the race was a good challenge for me. Fuel saving isn't my favorite thing in the world to do, but the Audi TT made it way easier as I only needed to short shift. I still have a bunch to learn at Willow Springs, but I have the basics to be somewhat competitive. When I'm not going off track and running into stuff that is. I'm hoping for some Red Bull Ring action next week. I think that we're due for that track as it's been a while.

I moved from C to B last night as well and that kind of worries me. I read you get a 1200 pts bump when you transition but I fear my next race I will be against much faster drivers and it won't be long before I am C again.. Though the last two races went much better after drinking a beer earlier in the evening! Less nerves?
I've tended to yo-yo between top of C and bottom of B since back in Sport, depending on the combos running at the time and how much actual time I have to play, it's pretty much my defined level now and it has it's ups an downs.

I genuinely don't mind running mid pack in B, it's pretty intense and helps with getting racecraft down very well but by the time I find myself getting bored of it, I'm usually about to drop into C anyway and get a few runs at the front and bump my stats up as well before going back up.

It's a decent place to be in the game I feel like.

My first day of racing as a DR B driver was a mixed affair. I did 7 races for some unfathomable reason....

Race 1
Started P3. T1, P1 loses it but I don't see behind P2. P2 avoids P1 who slides back across me and there are not ghosted! As I hit them, they ghost, but as that happens my momentum is thrown off and I slide off track, to spin, and move back across track. P3 to P15. Thanks P1. I almost gave up at that point. I didn't and though the remainder of the race I focused deep and climbed my way back to 7th.

Gained 400 DR pts for that.

Race 2
Don't remember what happened but I gained 400 DR pts. It must have been uneventful or I was mad and forgot to save the replay. 🤷‍♂️

Race 3
Started P5. T1 the car in front braked way earlier than I expected and I hit the rear giving me a 2 sec penalty. Bad start. Got up to 4th but entering the right, left right triple, hit 3rd, that slid me but made it around the left before spinning, causing a bit of chaos. Sorry others. That dropped me to 11th, which amazingly I held even with the penalty. I worked my way back to 9th but had some mistakes and a further penalty and finished 12th.

A poor showing and I drop -600 DR pts.

Race 4
Started 5th and exchanged to few places in the first lap. Dropped back to 9th at one spot after some wobbles in the quad complex but then climbed back to finish 6th.

My DR stayed the same.

At this point I gave up. Some hours later I came back..

Race 5
Started P7. Good start through T1 & 2 but poor driving on my part and I lose it in the quad complex. Then lose it again getting started. Dropped to 15th. After that it was a clean drive and I got to 12th. Poor race that was entirely my fault.

My DR rating dropped 400 pts.

Race 6
5 A and 1 A+ was also in our B lobby. I was P12 and I was like oh great. I lose it again entering the quad complex by running wide. I keep messing up that corner when in tight traffic. Dropped to last. Finished up in P9 but being persistent and having luck that others wiped out. This was testament to never giving up.. Gained +400 DR pts.

Race 7
Started 9th in a field with at least 5 A and 2 A+ drivers. Ugh. This race though I managed to complete the first lap in one piece, climbed to 7th and stayed there until the last lap when one of the A+ drivers got me cleanly at the hairpin. I finished 8th which I was okay with considering the field and was the third highest B finisher (A and A+ don't count in my book; they really should not be in this lobby).

This netted me +400 pts.

Total for the day was +600 pts for the DR so it did not drop and I ended up gaining in my first day of being DR B.

Beginning to see some familiar names in some of my lobbies and a few are recognizing me. In the end the DR rating pts was not the horror show I feared. For the most part I appear to be average B. I can catch up to half the field, hang with a quarter, but find it difficult to keep up with the top 25%. I don't have the pace or skill to overtake at this level yet and my position gains are through others crashing out or penalties. The key for me to do well is to have a clean race and just stay on track. Some races are more challenging that way...

Absolutely, thanks! I need to focus on what I can learn.
In case you don't mind if I share some of my own experiences regarding that topic...

I'm still astonished how much I've learned and improved over the course of less than one year, by just wanting to do exactly that. And there are lots of different ways to learn, and the great part is that everyone can find his own path.

I started out as an old bloke trying the game out, out of nostalgia, on his daughter's PS4 console. It was a similar experience to previous GT games, nice, but nothing special. That changed completely when I tried online races for the first time. It was a totally different experience racing "real" people, great fun, great challenge, and I was completely hooked (and, despite the whole punting and shoving and whatnot, I still perceive online racing as being in a rather friendly environment).

And then the learning began, some of it on purpose, some of it by just competing. For me these were the keys:

  • The circuit experiences. I didn't stop until I achieved gold everywhere. Every CE track is now well stored in my memory
  • The qualifying. When I began using the ghosts of quick drivers instead of only my own, my times improved rapidly. And I studied them before driving: where does he brake? where does he shift? That corner exit in 3rd or better in 4th gear? And so on. And today I've learned enough of that that I mostly don't need other drivers ghosts anymore, I find my quickest lines by myself.
  • The driving aids. Getting rid of them one after another improved my car control. TC was the hardest, of course. Lots of frustration at the beginning, until I stopped spinning at every other corner exit. And whenever I feel the need to turn it back on, I'll do it.
  • The daily races. Every race is different, and there is always something to learn. As I'm quite focused on qualifying, I did several races from pole or at least from one of the top spots on the grid. At first I was extremely nervous then, feeling the pressure from guys with better race pace, made lots of mistakes and threw many good results away. That's a bit better now, but still room to improve. On the other hand, I did quite a number of races from the back on my practice account, and I learned a lot of how to overtake, avoid dangerous situations, and handle unexperienced drivers. I drive much better now in traffic than half a year ago.
  • I relation to the daily races, take what the game offers you. I've been relegated from DR A to DR B twice, and just went on and climbed back up. The first time annoyed me as ****, because I felt that I'd been bullied in the A lobbies, the second time I was like "yeah, just drive better, and things will work out". Which they did.
  • And, my personal extra tip: the road cars. Race A mostly. Learning to drive these, adapting to every car being different, has benefitted my car control a lot, also for the usual Gr3 and Gr4 cars (they feel easier to drive suddenly).

All in all, I like that old farts like us can still compete...😆

Some people have said that lobbies with low As are messy because those drivers are trying hard to not lose their A ratings.
In the end the DR rating pts was not the horror show I feared.
I don't have a lot of patience to read through things like what you posted, but for some reason I really enjoyed reading your entire post. (Part of the reason I could do it was because you broke things into smaller paragraphs, making them easily digestible. Also, you were nice and succinct in your wording.) The thing I kept nodding my head about was that you refused to give up, and kept plugging away. And as a result, you saw how much DR you can save by just being persistent. And I suspect being able to regain so many positions helped your confidence. Very cool.

Regarding your problems on the quads, don't forget your tires are cold the first time through. You can't carry the speed you normally use. Instead, concentrate on getting your left tires on the first 2 berns (I think "berns" is the right term). Focusing on them should help you control your speed a little better - at least, it does for me. And don't worry if that causes you to be a little slow through the third turn - just try to be able to accelerate out of the 4th turn and you should be good to go.
In case you don't mind if I share some of my own experiences regarding that topic...
Loved it! Thanks for the list.

That's the thing I found most surprising. I expected to be throttled by kids who pointed and laughed at me, which is one of the reasons I embraced the Grumpy Old Man personna. Instead, it's been, as you said, a surprisingly friendly atmosphere, in spite of a few bad apples.

And finding this forum was the best thing that could have happened. I can't even begin to describe all the things I've learned here.

Honestly what is this? Right now I’m really finding it hard to power up GT7, and these for next week are just another reason.
Oh well not to worry, as I’ve started to really enjoy ACC console. Might have buy a PC so I do the LFM series

A) Typical A.
B) Didn't we just do this track recently? The Alfa GTAm in late December if nothing else. This will be a WRX/Alfa fest. Pass
C) 10 laps at a track with what is known as the chicane of death... what could go wrong? At least there is a required pit stop, forcing some strategy.

Rough week.

Didn't we do seaside in GR3 not that long ago? (No strategy) be nice to have tracks that ain't the favourite of the person deciding the weekly races 😂
Race A might be fun. But could be an interesting week of races

Dragon trail SS; hate the chicaine, will avoid.
But love Sardegna B, gonna spent my time there, see if i can set a good time. (add: might even use another car then my usual Mustang....)

second that!

I like Sardegna B, it's a challenging track. And many promising races there will end in the sandtrap at the end of the straight through the valley.😆

Anyway, it will become increasingly difficult to create new races on tracks that haven't been used "recently".

Hmm, on the other hand... what about Blue Moon Speedway for example? Somebody at PD must really hate this track. And the rally tracks for race A? (I mean, I probably wouldn't race there, but I'd like the variety.😜)

2 of my favourite tracks for B and C.
Worn meds and the COD sounds like trouble, but that's maybe something to take advantage of.

Race A rally would be good considering won't affect the rating.
I would've expected a Rally race to honour Ken block passing. But we are talking about PD.
With the amount of tracks we have, some variation would be good.
Need some mega slow cars in Road cars in Race A as they can be fun 😁

Looking back this has been my experience as well. High C low B lobbies were the most aggressive. I Ran 5 races yesterday at mid B and barely touched a car. One guy gave me a light tap and gave the position back. Hopefully one day I can test this theory for high B low A lobbies.

I had a great race this morning. An eclectic lobby of both DRs and Cars. These are the kinds of lobbies you can get when you race at 2am.

The car that started P2 spun out on the second turn, so "Jeremy" and I battled it out for P2. He passed me on lap 5 at the back hairpin, when I tried to go inside to defend my position, but came in too hot, allowing him to pass me on the inside.

I accidentally gave him a little love tap before the chicane, but he handled it just fine. Couldn't catch him and finished P3. Oddly enough, I only gained 1 pixel in the DR progress bar. But fun times!

Hmmmmm Race B looks interesting but C is something I should excel at. What to choose?

My nemesis last night was the "best" I have ever encountered. He was blindingly quick and very skilled at punting folks into walls without getting a penalty. TBH is was sobering how he schooled me time after time. But 4 races in a row I was sent to the very back.

I've been waiting for Blue Moon Bay Infield A in Gr3 since I started playing Sport Mode. How about the Nord? High Speed Ring? How about RBR, start to finish, in the wet?

Not that I'd be thrilled, but there are more Willow tracks or even Tokyo tracks. Not my favorites but at least they'd be trying.

I had a few of those last night, did 4 races.
See how bad this race B 'reverse' was going to be. 1st couple of races I hated it, doesn't flow, and with the crash fest and desperate drivers it was rage quotable.
3rd & 4th race I warmed to it. Still can't get the hairpins to flow. 3rd race plenty of people crashing out so I progressed from 12th to 3rd, and was catching the leaders.
Leader (pole sitter) spun out T3-T4 causing P2 to slow down, I managed to catch up and had a battle for the rest of the lap. Pole sitter behind us into T1 on next lap. I was Close to now P1 going into T2.
Pole sitter in P3 decides he'll or high water he's gonna win, decides to pit manoeuvre me sending me into the wall.
1.5 sec penalty, and by time got going was P8 which is where I finished.
Pissed off was an understatement, and he wasn't in the next race for me to try repay the favour if I had chance.

Great encouragement! I've always like driving games over other "computer" games. I watch my son play other titles and my brain just can't follow what's he's doing; it's so fast! However I can twiddle a wheel and push some pedals so I think GT plays well into the hands of us older farts.
Regarding your problems on the quads, don't forget your tires are cold the first time through.
Yeah, I'm actively trying to remember that after a number of first lap issues. Right now, as long as I can get through the first lap, I'm usually okay... First lap is where I currently do or die.. One thing I am improving on in my race craft, as I do more online races, is anticipating other driver's action. There is still a lot to learn and I've been caught out many time by drivers in front braking much sooner than I would have expected or taking entirely different lines around turns leading to collisions. I'm trying to give much more room now; to maintain on track, even if I lose a spot as one spot is still much quicker to recover from than crashing.

To the comments earlier about racing at the top/bottom of a respective class, As one playing in the space currently, I would not say it is more dirty (that varies more depending on time of day), but that more incidents happen because there is a much greater diversity of driving styles. Which leads to failures in driver anticipation of others around them. Mid DR, I think most drivers are on a similar groove at that point so there are less surprises.
I had a great race this morning. An eclectic lobby of both DRs and Cars. These are the kinds of lobbies you can get when you race at 2am.
My C and B lobbies with the A and A+ drivers have been at 1am or later. Only weirdos are up at that time! So far I found morning/mid day drivers to be the most respectful, early evening to be the most aggressive, and late evening/middle of the night to be WTF lobbies.

But the ultimate question is, will driving in my GrumpyOldMan socks make me a better driver, just like Grumpy here? 😁

A is right out, tbh so is B. I already don't like that circuit and having it be an Alfa/WRX fest doesn't seem appealing.
I remember having good times with GR.3 at Seaside and it's not reverse so that's good. Forcing a longer strategy race is something PD should be doing every week. A for tuners, B for a pop in daily, and C for a long form daily.

Honestly I'd love to have a D added for "something weird". Basically test combinations. Like someone else said GR.2 at Tokyo, or Formula cars at Blue Moon Speedway, maybe a 20 lap brawl at North Island with "retro racers". I dunno, shake things up PD, make me scratch my head and go "what the heck is this?!"

Make me anticipate what we could be getting next instead of worrying that it's just going to be more of the same.

EDIT: Might change my screen name to "Plz No Punterino" for next week headed into Seaside :D
