So in the past 48hrs or so I thought I would practice Gr3 Watkins Glen in view of both the upcoming WS round and the new Daily Race C.

I eventually manage to get down to a 1:46:2, which I didn’t think was too bad for a C/S. Plus it’s day one of the new Daily C and I was looking forward to a good starting position in the first race I entered, which was 11:00am on EMEA.

The race loads and I am presented with this:

Going to have to be very careful here because of the profanity rules, but I can find no possible reason for the two drivers highlighted to be in this race. Our reward for our decent times is to be placed in a Race where we have no right to be be. I know I am not quick enough to race at B level, hell I barely get by at Dr C.

Why do PD bother with their patronising blather about sportsmanship when they do matching like this? Why do they state that people will be matched with others of similar abilities? I manage ONE flying lap that is fairly decent and my reward is to lose Dr (I finished 12th) that I can not afford to have squandered.

How can PD manage to pretty much ensure that all WS races are matched correctly yet allow this BS in Dailies to be commonplace?

Not happy.
Look at the B's SR ratings. They are bottom of the B barrel so will unfortunately get filled with the next barrel down which you are part of. So your main reward for your time was players with the safety rating of a glass celling holding up concrete.

There probably just isn't enough players queuing at 11am on a Monday to give you that. Off-peak times are generally when you get these weird lobbies.

I’m sorry, but the “not enough players” argument is getting a little old. Just put us in with other C/S racers and let the 14 dubiously rated B’s race each other.

And if PD are, as you say, grabbing lower DR players to fill a grid, why aren’t they grabbing ones with the same SR As the grid they are filling?

That looks the kind of line up a few of us have hit when we're a top C, about to get promoted to B. So congratulations on you're upcoming promotion. I think I'm heading the other way, still getting the hang of my new wheel and pedals, so about to drop down to C unless I start banging in some decent results at Watkins Glen

I just finished 12th in that B race. The fastest lap was a 1:43:xx. That was 4 seconds quicker than mine. I have no desire nor aspiration to race any higher than my current level.

Experience has taught me to respect my own limitations, of which there are several. :)

If you don't want to get promoted or be put into a higher level split, you could always nerf your SR.
Get it down to about a B and you should only be put in lobbies at your own DR level.
It's a very stupid way to do things, but so is PD's matchmaking system.

I've realized I'm going to need a 2nd backup account. The 1st backup was supposed to be just for dailies, but now I'm using it for a 2nd manufacturer in the GTWS and don't want it to drop down a level (it's pretty identical now to the main account so good for performance comparisons). Will have to spend a few boring hours again doing the early menu books, luckily there's a couple of good races this week to build up the DR once Sport is unlocked.

For all my hatred towards race B last week with the 911 being the generally preferred car in the races I saw, I did jump on a few races on my DR C UK alt account last night, knowing I was going to get a mixed and varied lobby in the early morning hours of Europe.

I jumped in with the R.S.01 and while I could never get that car better than 0.3s behind my 911RSR QT time in racing it drove really well and perhaps I should have stuck the week out with that instead. Anyway what impressed me was the variety of cars in this race. This was a mixed group and a good one too! This was one of the cleanest race B I had all week (surprising given a couple of SR Ds in this crowd). Went from 7th to 4th and got CRB.

Anyway, on to week 26. I did a few QTs at Luguna Seca this morning while my tea was brewing in the 458 Italia. That drives the course pretty well. I was the first person on my friends leaderboard so I have no idea how my time of 1:29.587 stacks up yet. I did post my QT time to replays. Search for gtp26 if you want a chase..

I totally get what you're saying. But here's some of the things that their software might be doing to figure out who to match with who:

1) Qualifying Time. Those cars you highlighted have QTs that are competitive with the QTs of the rest of the cars in the lobby.

2) If you take DR along with SR into account to develop a "score" that can be used to match drivers, then it could put C/S closer to B/B. I don't know their algorithm of course, but here's an example to give you some idea of what might be happening:

Let's say that DR C gets a base value of 30, and DR B gets a base value of 40.

Then let's say SR S adds to the base value, making it something like 33. And DR/B subtracts from the base value, making it something like 37.

33 and 37 aren't as far apart as the base values 30 and 40 are. So I don't think it's unreasonable to put them together, especially considering the QTs.

Again, my numbers are just make-believe, but I hope they illustrate my point.

And sorry to say this, but if you get a QT you can't live up to in a real race (which has happened to me plenty of times), that's you you (or me), not the game.

Just my thoughts.

Just sent you a friend request, judging by your finishing time here we probably had similar pace last week.

So far this morning, I've managed about a 1:28.3 for QT in the Cayman, but I only got in about 3-4 laps before having to head to work. Tomorrow I think I'll try to figure out what car I'll be racing in Race B when I have time this week. The Cayman feels very planted in the corners, but it feels slow on the straights.

F Type is great on this track, might wanna try that. Good in the corners but also has fantastic speed.

Race A is over in less than 5 minutes.
If they want to put people off racing road cars I'd rather they remove them all from the game rather than making a mockery of them like this :P.

Who is sitting around for 15 minutes for a 4 minute sprint? Ridiculous. There's going to be about 3 people racing this by tomorrow because everyone else got bored to death waiting.

I picked it up after seeing the top time was currently a half second ahead of the next, but I didn't have time to try it out yet.

Anyone looking for some tips and tricks for Race B at Laguna Seca this week?

Here's my simple tip: Don't bother!

Did maybe 5 qualy laps and was happy to be on the higher end of the leaderboard, knowing full well this time will be murdered in a few hours 🤣 Either way, I thought this race had potential and it could be fun!

Nope! Started P9 and in less than 2 laps I think I got swiped or punted more than 6 times, including push-to-pass and more. On lap 2, I first was again tapped and pushed from P7 into the gravel and down to P10. Same lap, I had the inside after the corkscrew, having gone slightly too deep after another punt from behind.

Heading into the left turn I was on the inside and did slow down a bit to give space but a gentle tap was too much for the other guy, who proceeds to pit me and then bump me into the gravel to go happily into last place.

I completed the race and so many drivers had the same outcome as me and almost none of the filthy ones took a penalty...

Here's the first 3 minutes of my lovely race... Watkins Glen, as of now, will be the only one I will be giving my attention to...

Nope it's simple. It sorts by SR first. And then by DR. It's fills from the front. So the highest SR and then DR players get matched first and so on. So if there are not enough lower SR players to fill the lobby it pulls from the next available SR range. Obviously some times of the week/ day have less people and I believe the consoles are still split so sometimes the pool can be lower.

That was dirty from the silver Silvia. That's not really a corner to make a move on unless the overtakee makes a mistake. They should have pulled back and once they hit you off waited for you.

Race C is definitely one of the most fun races i've seen in GT7. Done it 5 times now with different cars. Genesis X, 18 GTR, 650S, GR Supra and F Type. Ended in top 5 in all of them and top 3 in 2 of them. Lot of clean racers in EU servers this afternoon, having a blast. Lot of vehicle choice in this one aswell, those softs aren't playing around!

I think this is slightly different nowadays from my experience, and a bad SR only drops you to the bottom of your DR letter, not below everyone with a good SR anymore. So a B/S driver at the top of B will often see A/B and A/C drivers in their lobbies as they are filling in the spaces at the bottom of the A lobbies.

Probably no coincidence people are racing cleaner when they’re given the softs to use. More grip, more control, less errors, less incidents.

I’m still racing on GTS so occasionally and in the current Race B the R.S. 01 is the meta (Gr.3 at Big Willow). Don’t recall it ever being quick in GTS or 7?

Impressive that your 458 can brew tea as well as set a fast lap!

Race C is fun that is for sure. The Gr3 BoP is quite decent. However I do have one issue.

Daily C at the Glen
TT at the Glen
Manu race this week at the Glen.

Is Lego Maggie getting a challenge for over used races?

I created a new UK account for this weeks racing. 2 fold reasons. One so I could still race in my neck of the woods and 2 so I'd have an alt account.

Not going to lie, I'd forgotten just how awful the menu book grind is. Hiding even lobbies behind an hour of game play along with sport.

To be expected the default E/B rating you start with is also a little grindy and seal clubbing. No offence to anyone but there is a difference at those levels with someone who has a top 1200 QT I lapped a Veyron in the swift TWICE...at Laguna

The stats look mega though 4 races 3 1st and 1 2nd....

But besides all that, it got me thinking they have Sophy, why not give you a test race against the medium Sophy and then allocate you levels rather than just default everyone to the same level when abilities and race craft vary quite wildly?

Thats a good idea, one that should be on PDs roadmap somewhere one day.

Random stupid question, I want to make an alt driving account but I am getting confused. Do you need a separate email address? Seems to be what the game is asking for.

If yes, do you have to pay the monthly subscription again for the second account?

So I used my gmail address but with the +sign thing to make it unique.

I don't know if you can do that on other mail services but gmail lets you do:

Normal email: xxx.xxx@gmail.com

Spam/alias addresses: xxx.xxx+nnn@gmail.com

They all go to the same inbox it just looks unique to wherever you sign up and in gmail you can add filters for it.

Also as I found out from peeps on here, no you don't need a separate PSN sub 👍

Accepted. I switched to the Silvia and put in a few more laps at lunch. Took my time down to 1:28.4. Left plenty of time on the table. I have a habit of whenever my lap time is significantly up (like -0.5 seconds faster) I tend to push the corners that bit tighter to try to eek out faster times and then the sausages happened. :banghead:

I really must stop doing that! I figure I can get low 1:28s. After that, not sure if I will get into the 1:27s.

Anyone looking for some tips and tricks for Race B at Laguna Seca this week?

Here's my simple tip: Don't bother!
I'll agree that Laguna Seca can be rough. I tend to do well there on the Time Trail Challenges (I've got gold on the two I've done so far) but online racing is hit or miss. If you can get in clear air it's okay. In the pack and chaos usually ensues. I'll give it ago tonight to see how it fairs early in the week.

Impressive that your 458 can brew tea as well as set a fast lap!
Don't be silly! I brewed my tea outside of the car. This car is Italian! It has a built in expresso machine. That's why it's extra caffeinated to drive! :D

I've edited together my highlights from Catalunya last week, because the corners are so long and usually followed by one going the opposite direction you can hang it around the outside most of the time so battles would go on for half a lap rather than just one corner. Really good fun when you're racing against the right people.

There's some spectacular racing in that. I could only dream of being so capable and have capable non-morons around me. :D

LOL at the punt off at 6:00 mark! 👍

Did a Race C (M6 Endurance) and started on the RH in P3, having managed a 1:43:9 whilst I waited for the race to start.

Most around me started on softs so I didn't waste time fighting them, knowing I will (I thought) come back on the second half of the race.

What annoyed me is that in some corners on the first 2 laps, instead of waiting for the exit and make the move, some drivers on softs just barge through and make contact and lose time for both of us.

And most of the rest did drive clean, but 2 or 3 really did not and it slowed me down and even had to drive my way out of blatant attempts to pit or punt me.

Pitted one lap later (end of lap 5) to not go in with them and it worked vs 2 of them but not the other 2.. Chose to drive behind and hope they take out each other instead of risk going past and end up in a wall.

It partially worked, ended the race in P6 and 7 seconds off the winner but could have been a much better result if everyone was a decent human. Still much better than Laguna Seca, though 🤐
