Hi, 3rd week with the 911 GR.3, with my "team livery". I'm starting from an 1:26.9, that need to shrink consistently by 0.75 sec (hopefully 1) before even start racing. Here's my baby.

It was nice of him to stop by and say hello, I lost 2 tenths exchanging pleasantries but that is nothing between friends!

Curious...how no damage tho??? I know this is one of those things I should probably know so be gentle...🤣
Finally saw another :gtpflag:member on track today, so that was awesome. Also weird, in a way. Am I the only one that 'clenches up' a bit when you see another board member lined-up?? I get this total wave of 'act-right' that washes over me, and more intensely than normal. Was super awesome when we were sittin' 1 and 2 to start, but the nerves, good lord the nerves.🤣

Couple penalties took the wind outta my sails for that one, though. Good seeing you out there @Voodoovaj and congrats on the win!👍

It did damage the front and rear suspension on the right, it drove like a shopping trolley into the next couple of corners 😅

I edited together some highlights from last week at the Nurburgring where the cars seemed very bouncy:

I love Road Atlanta but GT4 on Hards with no strategy sounds like less fun than watching paint dry.
holy crap was I wrong this has been super fun! It's 100% 4WD at least in all the lobbies I've found myself in but I'm having a great time. The Genesis is the car I'm best with, down to a low 1:25 QT which puts me starting in the top 3-5 pretty much every time.

Congrats on the QT and glad it doesn't suck. Gr.4's on RH's are usually a decent party no matter where you put them...just more fun to drive when they're a little loose. They don't have the juice to kill you on every exit.👍

I usually have a pretty good time in the WRX and Bugatti there, too. If you're looking for something a bit different to throw around, the Megane Trophy can be a blast as well...just need a tow on the back straight.😁

EDIT
@GOTMAXPOWER Ok, I'm gettin' old...didn't even catch the triangles being lit up. Tbh, was expecting the entire side of the car to be flashing red, lol. Nice drivin'!!

I'm back in Sport racing! Well for this week anyway. Having fun with Gr.3 at Deep Forest..

Started with a QT of 1:27.577 with the Supra which put me distinctly mid pack. Race one, started 6 but after coming out of the hairpin lap 1 unscathed, the car behind with his nose on my rear flanks loses it on the curbs and skewers me. I plow across the track into the barrier. Back on track, in 15th I realize the car is slow and discover front, rear and engine damage! Once that recovered it was an entertaining drive to recover to 11th.

Next two races showed gains in each race. 11th to 6th and 9th to 7th in a mix Dr A, DR B race.

I think I have the race pace for my level but felt I needed a better QT. Pulled out a ghost and put in a time of 1:26.731 which should put me in a much better grid position going forward. Got to say, from a VR perspective, the Supra is one of the nicest Gr.3 cars to drive. Visibility and shift lights position are great!

Race on!

Knowing the driving nowadays, it's less "Be Square" and more like "Square up"

Thanks chatGPT.

I wanted Darth Vader slicing a racing car in half but apparently that is copyrighted so this'll have to do! Not sure where that skinny wheel came through though! :D
You know, I actually like the unintentional Metal Gear Rising 2 concept art it gave you.

You're right, I smashed into the wall a few times in my 3rd and 4th race of Eiger, so the reverse layout is harder than the normal version of the track. It's not a stroll in the park, I know that much. You have to watch out for the pit too, if you go too fast you may accidentally go in it. Catch my drift?

You know the thing where everyone's always telling you to read stuff before you post?

The thing you mention there is literally in the post you just quoted. Moreover that picture in which it's written is a cropped screengrab of the article I posted yesterday...

You've just quoted a quote of the thing that you're talking about as if it's brand new information.

Ok, I'll pay more attention next time. Well let me get to work at Eiger. I've got lots of qualifying to do. I've already done 5 races but I'd like to start towards the middle of the pack and I've been starting near the back. I normally like to begin the race near the front so I can have an advantage of finishing in a good position(1st-5th).

Still in working progress at Deep Forest. I went down to an 1:26.508 (with the ideal of 1:26.236), but half sec can be still chipped away. I mean, after my best effort of 10 laps between 1:26.5 and 1:26.7, I went for an oil change and needed actually to service the engine!(5000 km). By Thursday I may be ready to race properly around the low 1:26 as targeted. Just hope that, with normal rewards, there'll be less drama compared the last 2 weeks.

Jumped on late tonight and did a quick practice on B before racing only to find my flow completely off. Having praised the Supra last night it seemed tonight it just wanted to kill me.

So I practiced some more, and then some more. Then I started to play with the assists and suddenly I found time. Also my flow was beginning to wake up after 20 minutes of having a nap.

In the end I never raced but I did reach the top of my (admittedly small) friends board.

There’s a 1:26.3 optimal in me as well. @Childe Roland your move! :D

In case this helps others I found the Supra to be fastest and safer with:

ABS default
TCS 1
BB +1 (rear)
Stability on <— this is what made the difference.

Now don’t tell anyone else!!

What is your DR and SR, i'm A/S and with having 1.24.9XX as QT. I'm mostly starting below 8-9 and getting rammed during racing in the midfield. Genesis and road atlanta is really fun but it's also frustrating getting hit by people every 2-3 races.

Don't beat yourself up about it Chris.

Given the challenges you face, with your autism, and looking after your Mum, it's great that you get so much enjoyment out of your racing and being part of this wonderful community.

Now that you understand that it's not always just about winning, I've seen from your times on my friends list how much you've improved with the advice you've been getting from the many masters of the art on this forum!

I made the same mistake few times already, so I don't drive/race "straight out of the bed" whitout at least 1/2 hr of practice (even if not really pushing).
Allow me; "Stability on <— this is what made the difference." is cause we're using many times too much rotation of steer and not enough trottle dosing out of corners. Stability on will kill your power output nontheless. Smoothness in transitions (especially t1 and t2) will give you a lot of lap time as reward.

Thank you for the kind words. Now I feel even more encouraged to press on and try to improve my times even more using advanced trail braking and other tricks. Winning is the last thing on my radar. I just want to have fun and finish each race to the best of my ability. That is why I'm sticking with a C/D rank. It would be too hard for me to keep up with the A/B drivers. I'd have to take it a step further and get my times down way more than I usually do.

I never normally use ASM and you are right in that throttle control is usually what you need. Turn 1 is not an issue for me. When trying to push at the edge though, I found that the turn 2 to the tunnel complex was at risk of suddenly losing it if pushed too much or losing time if too cautious on the throttle. With this combo I found that I could could be just a little more aggressive through that section which gained me a few tenths in my time.

I read somewhere that the ASM would work on brake vectoring as well to provide stability but looking at the manual that is not what it says....

Active Stability Management (ASM)
Active Stability Management (ASM) is intended to prevent your car from spinning out, and can be turned on or off. When turned on, it will sacrifice speed for an easier driving experience. It should be turned off if you are looking to severely shave some time off your record.

I tried this and did go 3 tenths quicker than my previous effort (but I put TCS 0 and BB 1 to front)
Definitely easier to drive but feels a bit spongy - I think I'm fighting the assistance when it gets loose? Tried a race, and it was still a sweaty mess 😂😭

On Race C, I've gone from 'weak' ABS to 'default' and taken 2 tenths off my previous best. I don't think it was just a lucky lap as had several in a row that were similar.

Off to try Race C again...

Yeah, this should be a satisfying week, Group B cars at Eiger, Group 3 at DF and Group 4 at Road Atlanta. Well idk about C, 14 laps is tedious and time-consumi
Curious...how no damage tho??? I know this is one of those things I should probably know so be gentle...🤣

I don't know how to look for player names.
I tried it yesterday, wanted to add rising_glass @Chris30 cause I remembered his online name, but didn't know where to look.

I don't know why I have massive issues with DF Race B. I'm on a low 1:28😔 but what's worse, 3 evenings of trying hard but I didn't enjoy it a bit. Racing tyres M feel like racing wet tyres.. I can use bb-1 or +4 on the Genesis X and achieve the same result. The track was one of my favorites, once.
Race c - I like Genesis in gr3 and gr4, I was looking forward to the race, the last 126 times we drove there in 2024, I was good and enjoyed it.
Would never have thought, that I really miss the drive to the pits, remember it is a very very evil pit entry lane, but like this, it was a bit boring. Now as I wrote that, maybe it's just me having a bad mood without noticing, I will try to enjoy the races. Race x is 1.26.6xx.
And I'm finally out of B, I'm happy about it, had a lot of aggressive competition, you know, fighting dirty and to death for position 12 or 13 doesn't make sense to me😉

Thanks, that's some valuable info, which will make my whole week better.!

B/S

I've found most of the time me getting hit is because of drivers not knowing what's a passing zone and what isn't. Like you can't go side by side into T3, or the esses so when I'm getting hit there I chalk it up to bad racecraft and not having track knowledge.

By wednesday though I expect those types of hits to stop and if they don't it's likely intentional.

This week there is an astral alignment of favorite circuit (Road Atlanta), favorite category (Gr4) and a few more free moments than usual. :D

It's been months since I've been in a position to jump into a race on Wednesday as I did yesterday, and I'll probably replicate tonight
Same here, what's your driver name?
