@benjoi84 I think humans a like that.

By its very nature online multiplayer racing is populated largely by competitive players. I think DR provides the "skin in the game" and also encourages racing lower down the order rather than just 1-3 podium places.

I do feel PD have a challenge though if they want to encourage more sports mode racers to play (and play that mode regularly)

The current route for people experiencing sports mode for the first time is depending on the week a potentially weird/niche A race (which being new you'd imagine that's where you start) and then you have B which could be a Gr3 car, competitive track racing people who have more experience of that combo etc

I could imagine a lot of people go to sports mode, look at the races and say "nah!"

The numbers are really pretty stable week on week for both dailies and TTs so my guess is by now the bulk of people that want to do dailies already are. And if that assumption is broadly correct A should have DR and more traditional combos with a Daily races "special event" that are the weirder less traditional races (much like how weekly challenges can include special events)

Eight different cars in the top 8 (would have been 9 and 9 but Audi driver quit). Yesterday it was nearly all Supras.

Edit/ different 8 in two races

I even managed a fastest lap in the 458 😮 with a good slipstream though - little Ferrari was panicking as it's never been to 172mph before 🤣

I'm not racing this week because I'm away, so I can't speak from first hand experience but I'd like to wager that this is symptomatic of a big problem within the community (maybe even wider in scope than just this community).

Experience shows us that racing car events are by far the most popular by participation in Daily Races. We are looking at a very fun, somewhat unique combination in the "unranked" Race A slot, and yet, the numbers are dwindling. Are people so stubborn that they will deny themselves entertainment (from a home entertainment system!) by the obsession with 'ranking up', chasing DR rather than recognising it as a tool which helps us find the most suitable competitors for our level?

We already know players are eschewing interesting races in single player in favour of 'grinding' events which give them more bang for their buck, so to speak.

Doesn't it defy logic?
My reasons for not doing race A are they are usually one make and use the short versions of the tracks. I'd like to see slow cars on long tracks.

You're completely right. People are kinda bad at letting things move organically.

Going back to what I said about "chasing DR"... Surely this is something that should be grown naturally in line with one's online progression, and not something to be brute-forced? If anything, artificially increasing DR through repetition of a favourable combination will only lead to more frustration in the long run. It's not really an alternative to genuine improvement.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's an answer. People use video games to escape real life, and once you enter the online environment, real life suddenly comes back to ruin your fun.

As for single player, grinding to make imaginary money as fast as possible just sounds like another job to me. No thanks.

I mean it kind of does do that but with the expectation you want to do racing for the racing not the combos.

To be balanced in real life main stream racing is basically the same teams doing the same tracks year in year out.

I do accept the point though.

That's the crux of it, escapism is different for all of us. I escape my real life/job to race competitively for something that has virtual meaning and a great ego killer/booster but it's the thrill of the ride.

1000% on that! Not for me!

Dropped my Race B QT in the NSX Gr.3 down to a 2:17.339*. My entries and exits into and out of La Source, Eau Rouge (without needing to lift), Blanchimont (without needing to lift), and the final chicane are still very shakey, losing me valuable tenths. 😤

Race 1: Started P7. Had no pace and felt slow everywhere, like I was barely holding on. Lost several positions early on. Only thing that saved me was other people making more mistakes than I did, and having some almighty shunts that took out multiple cars, allowing me to make up some places and finish ahead of where I started. Managed a miracle P6.

I'm going to cut my race day short and work on some confidence and consistancy so that I'm less of a moving obstacle. Hope y'all's day fares better. 😅

edit: *I keep tyoping my QTs. 😤

Well...that was interesting.🤣

Ran a couple in Race B to see how it was out there. Started P4 and P6, ended P9 and P7. Not great, not horrible, lol.

First race was on me. As we came down the hill into 'Rouge I thought, "I should lift and let them go...". Nope, and quickly paid the price for that choice. At least I was on the inside and just picked-up a penalty. No contact but still not sure where the other driver landed. Second one was just a fist-fight with a couple screw-ups.

Think I'm gonna wait until morning to do any more racing. Might run some more laps on weird parts of the track to re-acclimate, too. If I'm gonna get pushed over there, I might as well remember how to drive it. Besides, @newmedia_dev and @TechnoIsLove are but a tenth or two away.😁

When are they going to fix the match making? Once again I'm at mid DR A and getting nice top5 finishes, and then they start matching me to rooms with up to 7(!?!) DR A+ drivers. Doesnt make any sense you lose DR just because you are matched WAY over your DR, so I just stopped playing for tonight. I did have an amazing tight and fast race with 4 other drivers, but we raced for the 8th place. 🤣 Why not just match room full of players who are close in DR as it should be? DR is a number after all - just one they dont want our eyes to see for some reason. DR score with leaderboards would make dailies much more motivating.

There are less players at the top end than you think there are. Once you're in mid A it's remarkably easy to get into daily race top splits, let alone just be in races with sporadic A+ players.
It's working fine and exactly how you say it should work, the crowds just thin.

I have run back-to-back races with dr B and dr A+ drivers. I highly doubt there is only 15 players online between B and A+. Also the sudden changes are weird. You can drive many varying races in dr A or A/B and suddenly you are thrown to an A+ lobby. If you can easily fight top spots in your own DR and gain DR it doesnt make sense you lose DR with 8-9th place in DR A+ -lobby.

Like @Nebuc72 said, comes down to player pools. Less people, wilder swings. I'm bouncing between A/A+ and morning lobbies cover C - A+. Evening lobbies, when more people are playing, they are mostly A/A+ with a couple angry B's thrown in. I say 'angry' because it's usually 2 - 3 drivers a second or more off pace at the bottom of the grid...anger seems a likely outcome.

Curious, though...are you racing against their DR or their QT?😁

Because P14 is so much better than P15...

Lol, that was an unfortunate loss for him. It's called karma. Glad you made it through, I was worried. Just stay strong and ignore those crazy drivers out there. Cool, I didn't know you had a Youtube channel. I'm a racing mortal myself, except I'm in the younger group.

Managed another win this morning, started on pole, taking advantage of the early hour when even A drivers weren’t in my lobby.

Despite this BM driver punting me off on lap 3 at the final chicane, chased down this Italian chap who kindly moved over for me as I was clearly faster 🫶

The BM driver would have beat had he not lost his head anyway

It genuinely is just the case. The top end is really thin. In some unpopular dailies you can be DR D and end up in top split because noone is really playing it. It is what it is.

There's of course the caveat of it matching by SR first so at mid A you end up with low SR A+ lobbies before you end up matching into them by purely DR, but I've been A+ since not far after launch and even in top splits for dailies about half of the field are A drivers unless it's an absurdly popular race.

It is kind of sad how PDI cant make dailies interest people. Even though these should be the best part of the game. Easy to enter online racing. Just checked there are approx.95k entries in time trial and only 25k qualifying entries in daily C. That is sad. Maybe we need better prices in daily races?

Cool, I didn't know you had a Youtube channel.
I don't publish much on that channel.
Laguna Seca is my first “official” race after jumping back into the Gran Turismo pool (just got a PS5). Been giving it a go for a couple days…well, at least I’m not coming in last every time.
Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your shiny new PS5!

Trying to catch up at Spa, I managed a QT of 2:16.2 for now in the Bmw. I entered a race just to check wich row could give me and it was 1st (strarted 2nd with the 1st QT at '15.5). I ended up 3rd, thanks to my usual "1st race of the day" mistakes, but it was ok and fair racing in general. To be safe I should chip 1/2 sec away from my QT (having an ideal at '15.8 gives me some confidence), but I see tomorrow as a good day for racing nonetheless.

Spa week always confuses me. My QT is ranked 7,046. How do I end up starting P11 in a room with 5 A+ drivers? I'm not complaining - I finished P12. But is seems to me that #7,046 should be in a different room. What do you guys think?

I think the option/outcome would be less people on the track. If they put hard limits around who was on course, you'd end-up with grids of 4 - 7 other people. Basically, it'd be like the last couple months of GTSport before it was mothballed...lonely out there.🤣

This could be my brain misfiring, but do the RS's seem to lose traction less abruptly than they used to? Exceeding the limit seems way more manageable now. Could be me, tho.😁

Did a couple dozen practice laps for Race B in the NSX Gr.3. The majority of my clean laps were in the mid-2:18s, with a few dipping into the high 2:17s. I did not improve on my 2:17.339 from yesterday. My shunts at the top of Eau Rouge were mighty, but infrequent.

Race 1: Started P4. Had a difficult but fun time trying to keep pace with the Supra ahead of me - so fast on the straights. Capitalized on a couple of their minor mistakes - as well as a penalty later - and held on for a P3 podium, well behind the two lead cars.

Had to cut my race day short. My pace wasn't as good as in practice, but at least I didn't feel like a hindrance during the race.
