Prior to getting the 1.56 I was starting around 8th, there are only 12 racers in this one, but itās fairly clean and bunched up so far, a few disappearing at the bus stop š¤£

Yeah itās strange isnāt it, at least at red bull ring it was only coming down to turn 3 š¤£ in the braking area šI told you in the porsche the bumps are still there

Iāve experienced what heās complaining about too. If the game puts you in a lobby with drivers who have higher DR (say you are C and they are B) they will invariably also have low SR (A or B or even sometimes C). It does this even though you as the lower DR driver has an impeccable SR (S rating).
To me it would make more sense to group drivers in mixed lobbies by SR (as seems to the case in lobbies where all drivers have the same DR rating). So all the SR S drivers would be together, thus avoiding what the OP is complaining about.
Is this happening because a low SR is correlated with a low DR? So the B/B driver is invariably a low B and thus closer to the C rated driver with a good safety rating?
I should that this is not a barrier to advancing. We were all
once D drivers!

It's a bit moot, if you are in any way competent you should clear D quickly by just circulating very conservatively, actively avoiding other cars and picking up clean races that way. once in SRS and DRB things should calm down, we've all been there.
I do find you can get swallowed up when SR drops to A, A-A lobbies are pretty crazy, fast but reckless guys, can be tough to survive and not get reset but in slower lobbies you just need to keep your nose clean. Easiest way to do this is Race C, run an Alt strategy where you circulate alone and SR will increase fast.

It's not quite like that bud, with certain combos it's very very easy to lose SR which drops you down to lobbies where the pace and the awareness isn't quit the same, so you'll see them want to move back up with collateral damage on the way, it "mostly" gets a lot more subtle with the B/A lobbies as the thirst is a bit more.
This is meant in no way disrespectful but the standards of racing differ quite a bit.
In a B lobby ill let the faster guys through and gain DR and SR just by running my race.
In a C lobby im not really expecting a lot of consistency or compliance and typically the pace differential is the issue.
You aren't racing the B guys and the easy way to step out of these lobbies is to spend time on QT actually learning and the circuit experience. There is no replacement for practice.
Rocking up to races without feeling like you know the track and your markers is like just rocking up to sega rally throwing in a quarter and then frustrated.
Whilst not a sim and accessible the game provides all the tools to learn to go quicker and drive around these people. It takes practice and practice you learn from.

There's a pretty big gulf between the better B drivers and the C and below guys, by high B most guys are half decent etc.... just gotta watch that SR.

I genuinely donāt see how anything youāve said answers my question, which was about how the algorithm works, not how to race.
I already conceded that you can drive tactically so that you avoid the low SR drivers, gain DR, and get into better lobbies. But I still maintain that itās worse to be in a lobby with players who have a much lower SR rather than in one with clean players even if theyāre faster.
In any case, my query was directed at Famine who seems like he understands how the game works.

Your question is valid, as in should we be grouped by SR more than DR but I think we are to some degree no? Feels like we are, like there's a tipping point. I'm a Mid A DR (for now) and SR-S and rarely see anything but SRS in my lobbies.

Well, adjust your tone and I'll adjust mine from friendly/casual? To what you said I feel my tone was more than ok.
I said that the lobbies you race in are escapable with some practice and better driving. Once you start to drive around people who aren't that good at driving it's easier. Also if it's a struggle, play the long game and just watch how they race. That is what I was saying.
And it's not like we haven't all been there so what I'm saying comes from a place of trying to help, there is no other way than to improve because even when you escape those lobbies the next ones will be faster and more competitive. So really it's on you to improve and be competitive for the next level.
This is part of the problem, I complain about my lobbies, you complain about yours but it's all relative.
You have to be on the pace and aware enough that you can avoid bad drivers and fast enough to put decent enough times in while not driving every race like you can win it.
The lobbies are self sorting based on how the races you have had have gone....self reflect a bit.
He knows how it works, is he the best driver? Like the res of us he is on a journey to get better. I'm not sure what you are trying to get from this. But I've definitely "cut the bud" crap stuff. And no this is not patronising or condescending just advice and a view from a different perspective than yours, that's been there done that and have the tee shirt and the tea towel.

The Civic is a very fun car to drive and the racing was generally clean, close and competitive. Mostly mid place finishes, but did manage a 4th and 3rd, so happy with that. Is it normal to start as B B, I thought that maybe I should start at a lower DR š¤

Second day of Race C; grinding the QT down to the low '32 (1:32.049). Well enough to start on pole in a BS lobby, all made by Huracans. As I have "cut the trail" from 2nd at first lap, it was then "all downhill" to the end. I pitted at 7th lap and just cruised to the win. I think this will be my strategy for the all week in order to maximise those soft tyres. The '31s club is something I'll try maybe later in the week. I did see less divebombing at 1st corner thanks to the standing start. Well done PD!

C is great, if I can just learn to start when the lights go out, and not when someone in front of me twitches. My race today was a bit different from your strategy: Started P5, got bumped L1 in the hairpin after the tunnel so now I'm down to last. Pitted immediately and started to do hotlaps. That got me to P5 again three laps from the end, but then the tires started to go. Finished 7, so I'm happy.

Hey take it easy on @Famine ! This is only like his first 7,300 days on the job, heās still figuring it all out ok! I want to let everyone know my qualifier for each race today is exactly 1:01. Iām number 1 on all of the list. I dare you to beat me. Also I used to race turtles in real life every weekend, real turtles, and I have tons of wins. Loads. Also I just wanted to point out that I know more than anyone who post on here. Also I know how the game should be programmed. My mom marched down to pd and slapped them in the face. I canāt think of anymore obnoxious replies so Iām going to eat pizza and drink gingerale.

Hey, welcome to online racing where you will encounter the best and the worst of humans.
You should focus on your SR. SR being you safety rating, focus on getting to SR.S to race against the cleanest driver. There are still rotten potato in there but way less than lower SR. Lower SR is not always about dirty driving but also about casual player who lack consistency and racing wisdom. Like attempting an overtake on the outside of an impossible curve instead of backing off and waiting on a better occasion.
The best race to farm SR is the longer Race C where it provide more SR points due to longer races. SR are easy to lose and hard to get back. One hit to the back of a car will give you a 4 sec penalty and half a bar SR deduction.
So before trying to win them all and go wheel to wheel at every opportunity, just race wise and be aware of what going on around you. Avoid multiples cars fight, let them go and crash each other. Only go for clear cut overtake. Put your ego aside and accept to loose some fight. Remember low SR lack of situational awareness.
Once you got SR.S, you can push and put proper fights.

Easiest way to farm safety rating is do a race C and stop early and circulate alone out of sequence. You will gain spots through attrition and keep your nose clean.

But remember don't farm SR just drive to that standard as best you can.

I'll be trying my luck at Interlagos this week as I'm not a fan of Deep Forest racing online. I set my best time in the Porsche with a 1:32.4XX and I think I can get that down. I also tried the Huracan, but the Porsche felt better in the corners for me at least.
My first race had me in P4 to start and it was a very dirty and poor sportsmanship shown by everyone, myself included. It also didn't help that on every turn I had to check-up and not plow into the back of people. It did force me wide on lap 1 at turn 6 and I fell to P10. Right where all the dirty driving was taking place! I manage to avoid most of it, but someone used their nose and shoved me aside. So I shoved them off track before the infield section. Not my best moment, but all's fair at that point. I finish P7 and get out of there quick.
Race number 2 had me in P2 and I finish P2 as P1 was a rocket and I had no chance to catch up. There was some fighting behind me so I had a comfy 5 second gap at the end of the race. A much better time in this one. Boring, but I'll take any positive result at this point.
My final race put me in P5. I move to P3 on the opening lap and then have a nice battle with P4 and P5. At one point, one of the people I was fighting with made a nice clean pass on my inside in turn 4. It was so good I wasn't even mad it happened. I even gave them a compliment in the post race chat. They went on to finish P3. I fell to P5 by the final lap and had a brown pants moment almost spinning out, but I saved it and very carefully finished P5. I decide not to press my luck and end it for the day.
So, some actual positive results for a change and it was needed with the past few weeks. Let's hope it stays clean the rest of the week.

Maybe you took offense to what he said. Well Famine is an admin and has been on GTplanet for many years. He knows what goes on around here. The best thing to do is have a lower rank and you'll end up in easier lobbies with more friendly folks. SR is much more important than DR. And having a positive attitude. Good luck.

Chastening night at Interlagos. Jumped in the 458 and it felt great, ran a 32.5 but feel a 32 flat is possible if I get it all right.
I enter my first real race since the transition to a wheel quite nervous and I was right to be. All 3 races I ran were top split, 7 A+ guys and fast A guys. Now I could never win these races with the dpad but I'd be there or thereabouts, not tonight though. Gooooooodbye fellas, they'd just vanish up the road. Guys running 31s as I do 33s, brutal.
I just cannot exit at the same pace, that's where the time is.
Another issue is spatial awareness, I used to run chase cam so hood cam is tough with no mirror but feels right with a wheel.

Iād say just focus on getting a time which starts you in the top half of races and try pick up some places as you go,
Either you like longer races with a pit, normally thatās C, personally I like some shorter races, thatās B or A is some different combos, like the Civic, which is fun, other week it was Mistas/mazda at Road Atlanta, but only has SR going up and down.
My general mission is to finish top 5, so it records on my stats and give a little bit when racing and folk generally take that as non hostile racing and doesnāt want to ram you off š
Hopefully there is the odd win for you when you persevere
And as the guys say, practice practice practice

I started P6, got rammed into the back of other cars twice, earning me penalties, and finished last - DR down from B to C, SR down from S to B.....
My first race as a C, I'm 12th on the grid (how does that happen? - must be a lot of fast drivers in C compared to B?). Anyway, it turns out that they may be fast at qualifying, but they can't race - I worked my way through the carnage (they all seemed to want to take one another out), and finished 4th.
SR back to A, DR almost back to B - couple of races today should see everything sorted š

Using a controller I am almost at DR A but now I find myself racing against semi professional youtubers and people who, according to their profile, use ā¬ 1.200 steering wheels. From this point onward I am probably destined to trying to avoid lagging Russians in the middle of the pack, not winning any races. Kinda miss being DR E, winning 5 lap races on Laguna Seca by 20 seconds. š

Had a pretty nice time at Interlagos yesterday. I was sitting with a lowered SR from the last time I boot up Sport Mode (March 2024), so carnage was to be expected, but also as nervous as ever. Caused my fair share of incidents because of it.
As a throwback to an old GTS combo, I was driving the Corvette C7 Gr.3. The neat thing is that you can immediately contest the driver ahead at the very start just because of the power. You could trust that its enough to make people in your slipstream abandon hope and not really have to defend on straights. Absolute misery to rotate though.
The best I could manage was a two P4s. The rest consisted mostly of recovery drives into P7-P8 or "practice races". There were also some faster drivers coming from the back, such as Louie starting from P13 in this race, which in hindsight, I could have done a better job dealing with.
I did go back and try to improve my quali time afterwards. Only found about 4 lap times between me and the top driver for the C7. It's early in the week and data is sparse for this car, so it probably doesn't mean much. Not planning on improving it further.
