but to use Mt. Panorama to try to get it back up to S is probably not so easy
It's fine to use Bathurst as long as you don't mind being at the back just circulating.

We sometimes forget that for a lot of us we are constantly trading DR for SR or SR for DR.

If you aren't up the front by miles you will likely have to overtake peeps and that is the danger zone for SR, yes you get the DR for the place but the potential for "incident" is greatly increased, conversely we can avoid any positive/close/contact potential racing for SR but typically we might lose some DR sometimes.

It's a finite balancing act in all but the cleanest of lobbies

Lake maggiore is being really good to me this week it’s definitely helping that I’m really in tune with my Porsche and the track, improved my QT again to 1.55.992 and then again 1.55.936 and I think that helped me in race, literally had this Porsche 4 tenths from my rear bumper for 3 agonising laps until I had a 1sec gap

Nice run!

I need to get some racing done there sooner than later. Absolutely love this course and was one of my favorites in 'Sport. Good to drive AND race on. Ran some qualifiers but have been distracted playing with my 'Bird...😁

Good heavens - I won my first Gr3 race in forever!

I've been struggling with Gr3 since the physics and FFB update, but the 458 on mediums feels pretty good around LM - l love the flow of the track too.

Unfortunately I had to quit the next two races due phonecalls, and lost enough DR to drop me to B/S.

Alright so yesterday I got demoted from SR A to SR E (DR also demoted to D). Got it back to B in 2 races. Decided to do 3 more races on Bathurst and there we are.. I'm back in SR S  As my DR is still C I started on pole or close to pole every time. Just finished my evening with a victory. Let's stop racing for now before I again ruin my SR completely.

As said, connection strength. Green good, Red bad 🤣. You will know when you have a player with a bad connection issue as the cars will be jumping all over the place so be warned!! It happens quite alot in the European lobbies if you have an unfortunate Russian player in it, for some reason they, through no fault of their own, seem to cause this a lot. I am not familiar with how the servers all link up but it does seem to cause issues regularly. Quite often I have been in races and the poor sods are left there on the grids ghosted as the race goes on around them 🙈
So, I avoid them like the plague and have actually slowed down to avoid them. When passing them, does the game take into consideration their movement or, are they taking me out by jumping laterally across the track?

The "jumping" is basically your console receiving new information as to where they really are since the last time it got that information, and updating their position. Everything between jumps is effectively a guess as to where it is. This is latency in action.

In effect, the distance from @Tazzy-91 in Ireland to someone in far-flung Petropavlovsk is somewhere in the region of 7,250 miles (the Great Circle distance is far less, but internet tubes don't go that way; edit: maybe a couple of hundred miles less on the Polar Express cable) and it would take any data exchange between them at least 60ms but probably far more. That means at least four frames of guesswork, where the game takes the last known position, speed, and direction and just pretends that the car is in a certain place for those four frames before it gets the next information and it gets placed in a new known position before the next four+ frames of guessing.

It's basically because of geography and the speed of data.

What an annoying night at bathurst. 1st race i got qualy down to low 13s, tough BS group. Drove really well, low 14s, great battle for 4th, I pit, take a bit of kerb but get pinged 3 second (which is really 6!) For cutting pit entry lines. So annoying, finished 6th.

Second race I was not quite as switched on buy having the mother of all fights for 2nd, second last lap I fire out of t1 and make a textbook pass into t2. 3 corners later and my car goes mental, steering all over the place, really wobbly. I finish last. I am not sure if my fanatec wheel disconnected or if the ps5 controller I use to navigate the game caused a freak out when it died as sit died roughly same time as the steering went insane. The wheel seemed fine physically but I pulled it off and reattached just in case and it was working fine after that so I dunno. Finished last!!!

This is probably preaching to the choir here, but for everyone still using automatic transmission: I thought it a pain in the ass to learn manual transmission, while competing in sport mode. It takes a bit of getting used to, and so it is a bit of a time loss in the beginning.

I did some easy offline races against the normal AI, and within 10 races or so I was already quite used to manual gearing, no longer forgetting to up- or downshift at the right time. Going back to sport mode I felt it increased my chances of a good time directly. I'm within 2,5 % of the top time on Mt. Panorama this week. This only happened before in a very, very good week for me. And now it happens while I've not been driving since 2 months.

AT sometimes works too excessively. I am faster in several Bathurst corner by staying in 3rd gear. It works the other way around too. So many times in the Deep Forest hairpin the AT only shifts back to 2nd gear, causing a very slow exit in many cars. It's quicker to manually shift back to 1st gear (helps with the turning as with a quicker exit acceleration as well).

True words and i did use manual as well. But as i get bummed off the track approximately every 2nd race and often face the wrong way, i panicked or flipped out because i couldn't find reverse gear. And often enough i wondered why is everybody in such a hurry after the start, while i was cruising with 40kmh, while my engine screaming like the one of the RX concept. I am definitely not as concentrated (i bet it's the wrong word sounds so nazi) as you.
Another problem for me, what buttons to use, i need the stick for skipping through the menue (radar, traction control, break b)

Oh, by the way i tried the BMW Z4 at LM and i don't know how, cause It didn't feel fast or really stable but 1st lap, i was already close to my Ferrari top quali time of.... 1.57.3xx and i always try to take every gt3 car. For at least a lap, sometimes there are surprises (exception - vw gti vgt 🤣)

Thank goodness for Race A this week, where using AT is not a disadvantage, as my hands will not tolerate using MT.

Having said that, whilst my QT at Bathurst is affected by using AT, it doesn't seem to be as big a negative in the race.

Nice start to the weekend, a win and a 2nd both from pole

I was just thinking @newmedia_dev tine is coming along and then the inevitable 🤨

😁
I needed a break from the Evo TT so thought I'd come play in B for a bit. Have to say that's a great time mate, I know I haven't done a lot round there this week but it's been a struggle to match your time. Hats the hell off friend 🍻🍻🍻

Thanks bud, I do like this track and the racing this week has been super fierce.

I’m lucky usually to be within half a sec of you guys so you just need to join @Barney Da Dog & @TechnoIsLove and it’s a standard week, now the weekend is here I think I’m done qualifying 🤣

Logs in to GT7 to run some races at LM...spends all night running Daytona instead.

Seriously, how is driving in circles fun??? I jumped into Race A to just run one for the fun factor and never left. Have had some great lobbies and, while the win is still elusive, the bumper to bumper racing has made it worth every second of it. And the replays!!👍

Thanks for mentioning fifth gear, by the way. Had no idea it was there, not that it's used. Also made me wonder...anybody know if this sled has brakes???🤣

@Goanaut I had no idea you could get reset the whole way back to E. I thought that was reserved for new drivers, lasted for five races and never returned. The reset from SR dropping below DR is normal, just didn't think seeing E again was.

@Barney Da Dog agree on the cycle. My best laps are typically the third.👍

EDIT
The horn, tho.....
But... we're Americans. We love going fast and turning left. Unless you're this guy:

Congratulations for another victory. That Porsche RSR car is a strong one and it has a loud engine/motor. I know because I had the TV turned up loud during the day and durn, it sounds like a mechanical symphony every time I drive it around the track. What DR level are you at now, I haven't looked at your page in a good while. I hope the rest of your weekend goes smooth and you'll earn some more wins. Let us know if you do.

@mellofello9 Yes, some straights can be tricky especially when you're close to a cluster of cars/opponents to distract you while you're racing. Dangerous at times.

@Goanaut I say the same for IRL driving at I do for videogame driving; you should know how to use Manual even if there's an Auto option!
The thing with real life is that it's much easier to feel natural.

That said most of the paddle shifts and autos are so good these days IRL, GT is still just slush boxes but a Porsche or BMW PDK is pretty much better than manuals for 99% of people.

The weekend is starting on the right foot. My best QT placement since my beginnings in Sport mode. (ideal 57.213)
So, "euphoristically speaking", I wish a splendid race weekend to everybody.

I made the mistake of going PDK on my 997, mostly due to budget. I only use it in M mode so I select the gears but the extra 10K or so on the stick would have yielded me double that 3 years later if I was to sell. In 2019 I sat in a stick 997 GTS cab, dealer asking 89K, would take 85..... cannnot touch them now for under 120K. Dang it.
