Looking at Tidge's guide I think i will go Race B. I am not great around Road Atlanta but an AWD car gives me a chance to worry about lines rather than just keeping it on track and I like the idea of 7 laps.

Agree on the lack of variety, especially with tracks. Where's Gardens or Sardegna or Kyoto

Hmmmm jumped on and did half a dozen laps or so, I ran a high 25, obviously have more time in me but TBH the lap felt really, really good so more than another half second will be tough to find and I am gonna need it to say the least. Road Atlanta has a little bit of Bathurst about it through that 1st and second sector, only experience will tell you what works best in terms of brakes/coast/throttle from the T1 to the time penalty left at the bottom of thehill, there's a lot of sneaky time there.

We’ve done this combo so many times now, for new peeps there is a plethora of guides now for them. For the rest of us it’s starting to feel like work now rather than fun gaming and racing.

Fastest FR time in the world lol. Don't know why they even bother using Gr.4 having so blatantly given up on it.

It’s really pathetic now, updates ago the NSX or Jag or Alfa were competitive.

It’s sad that’s it’s impossible to get an FR car higher than that’s especially with no strat.

Edit @Nebuc72 like the videos dude!!!

The AWD/FWD thing in group 4 has been an issue for years so maybe I am the bad luck as it seems like it wasn't too bad whilst i was away. Back in the day the Scirocco and the Peugot were OP.

It was closer a couple of months ago, things like the Gr4 supra were fast and viable for example, I think the balance tilted to the Aston.

The FF cars have always had a hard time unless we talk about the Mazda 3, if you know you know.

But ultimately the whole of GR4 is broken, GR3 is better but it’s so track specific it actually undermines things like the manu cup :/

Good evening everybody. Long time no see...😬 I hope you are all doing fine.

I haven't been able to race a lot in recent months due to real life stuff, but with this week's race A, I just had to give it a try again. The combo was a lot of fun last time, and it is again this time, at least in my humble opinion. Had the pleasure to meet @NAXEHT in a race, who sadly got involved in some shenanigans by drivers with some rather, err... unconventional lines. I got lucky and was able to go from P15 on the grid to P4 in the end by just avoiding bad stuff (mostly luck) and just staying on the track. Hopefully I'll meet some of you guys in a race this week.🫡

Road Atlanta time! I went with the Nissan and set a time of 1:25.5XX.

My first race had me in P5 to start. On the opening lap I have a weird bounce exiting the esses and fall through the field with an off track penalty to boot. Then a car gets loose, cuts across the track directly into the front of my car. Unlike most mishaps I've been having, I recover and finish P5. One driver did try and take me out. They hit me a few times but I managed to get away.

Race 2 has me in P2 this time. I lead for the first 3 laps then have a wild ride in the esses after watching my mirrors too much. I accidentally bump the leader on the exit of the final chicane and we both go off track. I did apologize post race. Then I cruise in P2 and finish there.

My final race has me in P9. A clean and quick paced race with a few spins that got me some freebies. I try and chase down P4, but can't catch up to make a safe pass. I then tried a pass in the final downhill corner on the outside and got fully in the grass but to no avail and I finish P5.

So, needless to say I'm having some good fun so far. Hopefully I can keep this streak of good finishes up and get out of the low B ranks.

Welcome back Leon, I'm glad you're in good shape and health. It's great you took a shot at the A races this week. Don't worry about those crazy drivers out there who don't know sport etiquette as well as other drivers like you guys. They probably don't care about taking risks, they just want to focus on winning all the time to boost their ego. I'm not that type of person.

Do you still use the wheel, or do you go back and forth between that and the controller?

I'm sure Autopolis will be an enjoyable track for most of our drivers to race at this week. Using good lines in a race is one of the keys for getting a top 5 finish or better in a higher ranked lobby, or at least to me that is. Good luck this week. Half of April is already gone!

@Stilva oh, I didn't know you were a fan of Road Atlanta, I must have missed something in the past. Good luck to you too mate.

Hi Chris,

actually, I only use a controller. I've never even tried a wheel (though I might some time).

This week just highlights how repetitive and unimaginative they are getting with the Dailies. It’s a wonder we all aren’t hitting the same lap times the amount we’ve done the exact same combos :/
If it's a really good combo, I don't mind them repeating it, honestly.

But I still don't understand why they are neglecting some tracks so much. Especially St. Croix, Blue Moon and some of the Tokyo variations. What's the point of providing good tracks and then not using them?

Had a frustrating time last night at Deep Forest. Jumped in a race and found I need to find a bunch of time in practice to get even to the middle of the grid. The RCZ and RSR didn't work for me. In the end I was doing similar times with the Ford GT 18, the 458 and the Beetle - all had optimals in the right range (about half a second ahead of my actual time) but I couldn't hook it up properly.

The couple of races I ran didn't go well. Track limit penalties, pit lane penalties, contact penalty and engine damage when I completely screwed up turn 1. Not my best evenings work, to put it mildly.

Hmmmmmm. I pushed a bit and managed a 25.2 and started plumb last dammit. Second race started P11. I just do not have the pace, I feel like I am doing good laps, as in it feels good and I feel hooked up ...... but I just cannot hang with A+/A drivers.

Tried Deep Forest for a bit and yeah just not my track, I do not do well on tracks with sort of undefined apexes like that twisty section at Deep Forrest. So I will lug away at Road Atlanta somewhat reluctantly.

I don't imagine I'll put too many hours into Sport Mode this week.

I'm still watching old replays and quite recently I watched my races from the last time we drove 86/BRZs around Autopolis so the combo is very fresh in my mind.

With so many nippy sports coupés in the game, why did it have to be these ones again??

My issue is we do not get enough races with fun to drive, low to medium powered cars. The original 4 banger M3 is a glorious thing to chuck about, older light and lowish powered road/track cars like the Alpine for example is another we could use but they keep going back to the same well.

Yes, there are lots of interesting cars in the game which could have provided interesting races, too. The slight difference is the tyre choice this time, which changes the race characteristics a bit. But why? They can't be still doing research, can they?

For the second consecutive week, no races really resonated for me. Last week I took an extra week to play at Circuit de la Sarthe with a GT2. This week I'm trying to tune the 911 to make it drivable at the 24 Hour Nordschleife.

The problem with Deep Forest, for me, is that there’s no patience and drivers just tend to push cars out of the way and pass in bad spots. I like the track, it just tends to bring out the worst in people. I may try the 911 there today.

I think it handles pretty weird on these SS tyres, bit too grippy, almost bouncing. Haven’t tried but feel like it’d be better on SM or SH. Anyway, my main issue with these cars is that they’re too slow. Way too weak for my taste, you get these almost artificially close races, kinda akin to Gr.4, another category I don’t care for. That in turn leads to terrible overtake attempts and too much argy-bargy type racing, awful race craft.

And add to that what y’all have already discussed a bit. These cars again... with so many unused cars available. Utilise the car list we have in this game, man.

Today I logged on after weekend races and gave the DAILY RACE C a try and it was very fun. I tried using the Genesis(HYundai) Gr.3 to teach those pesky RCZ meta cars a lesson and almost succeded!

Using the Genesis I was begining in 14th place and quickly got to grips with Deep O forest again, as this track I feel I am pretty used to and can get some good lines throughout with the right car and practice. The Genesis held its ground, good start, chasing a M&M Supra, pushing on the RM tyres. Bit of argy and shoving through lap 2-3 as I progressed up to 10th place.

Racing hard the Genesis was pretty quick, but the straight line meta speed of the RCZ was crazy on the straight and tunnel runs. I had to use my well timed cornering speeds exits to keep them at bay. The leader would start to pit on lap 7 as I gained more positions, but earlier on lap 4, I had a bad incident with 5 cars runing into turn 1 and Lambo racer breaking so dman late he choose me as his target, boosh, I spin out and so does he. I then had to spend 10th place and regain my positons I slowly in the coming laps to lap 7 gained up to 6th place.

As the peugoets there, pitted I gained 2-3 places and was chasing a double bill of RCZ's in dark blue, battled them to gain pole for a lap or two and then chose to pit on lap 11, onyl lost a few postions, switch to fresh RH tyres, came out in 10th again and was chasing for 9th and 8th spots respectively. I used the last few laps to push and I got 9th, then on the last lap, a RCZ driver botched the last hairpin corner and I captilised on him and gained 8th till the finish line.

Very fun race and will do more this week to hopefully improve get back up to B DR rating.

You know when you hit that wall and finding a couple of tenths is nigh on impossible.

Consistent - yes
Improving - no

Edit:

Finally found that 1/10th but it was a lot lot lot harder work than I wanted. That is currently 239 in the world in VR.

Curious if you’ve been comparing your times in VR vs non-VR or if you’ve just stayed the course since try VR?

If so, are you finding one or the other trending faster times or consistency?

I was VR only for 2 years straight and never played flat screen but recently started back cold turkey doing flat screen to get better at WRC but also to use the extra race information in GT7.

I’m going to begin testing both again for GT 7 because I think I’ve lost both pace and consistency I had with VR by going flat screen but it might just be old age getting the better of me.

Curious how you and @TheNormsk have got along with the transition to VR.

Cheers
