Man as a guy needing reading glasses now this is all worrying me I've spent 350 on something I'm not going to enjoy (going fast at the sharp end-ish)
In VR, everything has a fixed focus of about ten feet, I think it is, so if you don’t need glasses to see something ten foot away irl, you won’t need lens inserts in your PSVR2. What this also means, however, is that it’ll take your brain a few weeks of training before it stops trying to unnecessarily refocus your eyes every time you look at your virtual dashboard. Thus part of the reason that things start to look clearer (with less headaches) after a few weeks of use, is simply because your brain stops un-focussing your view of the fixed-focus VR world in front of you.

I got the Pro last Friday and here are my impressions for GT7 in VR:

The new reprojection method is amazing and basically erases 99% of the ghosting caused by reprojection. It literally feels like I'm playing iRacing on my Valve Index at 120Hz. Other cars and track-side objects seem more real and physical as a result of this. The resolution and lighting (and even color saturation) seem to also have been somewhat improved. I've previously had noticeable performance problems on the base PS5 with a full field of cars on tracks at night and in the rain, so I raced a Mazda 787B on Le Man's at midnight in torrential rain. Not 1 stutter. Consider me gobsmacked.

With the daily race at High Speed Ring, which I am having fun in. Does anyone notice the first corner seems either low frame rate jerky or the barriers to the outside do something weird? Could be an optical illusion I am seeing. This is in qualifying practice on my own, too busy to notice in race.
Oh and I am doing well in the Hyundai Gr1. no HUD, it has some of its own lap and position HUD that stays on anyway. I think it does well as it doesnt crash and very easy to drive. So many others have accidents.

Yes. It also happens with the Honda and slightly with the MP4/4.
I'm thinking that such artifacts will be 'fixed' by PD down the track?

I'm not quite sure what to make of the new "reprojection" feature.

It does not appear to make any impact on captured footage (it's off in that video above), but it makes VR feel more comfortable to use to me. The colors feel a bit brighter, the image looks a bit more natural, and it feels like there is more depth to what I'm looking at. The added artifacts, however, are quite pronounced.

Do you think the new artifacts might be an issue that PD can fix in new patches?

Played the game last night on VR and the improvement for me was massive, Quite amazed at the negative comments on here.

It is crystal clear now when passing cars, like night and day difference. The sweet spot seems larger. The Hud is far far clearer. The LOD models are much better, Ive not played the game in about 6 months but my main gripe was with the LOD pop in models was awful before but brilliant now with barely any pop in at all.

All in all im well happy i sold my PS5 for a Pro as the difference for me is large enough!
So, what settings do you have on? Reprojection repositioning, and framerate, I'm assuming? I just bought the Pro today.

What I experienced yesterday was a first and probably due to loading the PS5P.

Price drop here as well. It’s $549 down from $880.
Believe it or not, I got one at this price, despite already having a VR2, lol. As insurance in case anything happens with my headset - I did have to return it initially, after scratching the lenses from wearing glasses, d'oh), and also as perhaps to sell my old one to a couple of mates who are sitting on the fence.

It seems to keep getting better everytime I play it with the new Pro-jection ON. Placebo ofcourse..

...Or is it feeding the PSSR VR AI every time we manually toggle the Pro-jection ON.
And is PSSR VR secretly already running in the background and learning from this data...

I looks and feels way more realistic, natural and faster for me now.
Amazing times! Highly recommended getting a PRO for GT7VR.
And probably it will get even beter once tuned-in further.

I'm thinking about getting the PSVR2 whilst it's on sale, but it does come with the caveat of if I get this job I've applied for

I have to say I'm throughly blown away.

Doing the licenses on my alt and on the Monza one was 1 second quicker than the gold time and beat the ghost who I have set at +.2 in front.

This is absolutely mental and such a great way to drive!

Con. I can't drink my glass of wine unless I tip my head so far back I feel like my neck is going to snap 🤣

I don't know enough about the technology to speculate, but I'm sure it can be refined.

Having said that, as I have continued using and testing the feature for my GT7 / PS5 Pro review, it has become clear to me (no pun intended) the VR Positional Reprojection feature offers such an improvement in overall image quality that its benefits far outweigh the drawbacks of occasional artifacts. The artifacts were quite pronounced around the Mercedes W196R's steering wheel which I was using to produce that early video, but I have not seen many issues as I've tested other cars.

True isn't it that no amount of looking at YouTube videos will prepare you for the experience actually inside the VR.

Drink though a straw 🥤

Re drinking whilst driving. Just don't. LOL.

I think I'm going to use a straw, like the doofus I am.

I'm just going to repeat what's being said because after these past five days, the damn thing is clear. I tried to be sceptical about the placebo effect, but there is none. It's really clear now.
VRPRS 'On' makes my brain "see" what I'm seeing and PS5P is much better than PS5. Yeah, it's that good. Again, it's not flatscreen perfect. However, my vision of what I'm seeing is clear and the renderings are smooth.

I was racing at many tracks for 10 laps each track. I couldn't fault anything I was seeing. What's bugged out is the shadow tearing actually varied by car as well. Not just by time of day.
I mentioned it was worse during high noonish, but racing different times of the day at different circuits, it wasn't always the case in bright sunny conditions.

Not selling anyone on PSVR2+PS5P. I'm being honest with my experience. It's probably the way PSVR2 should have been intially. I can see PD making more improvements to the experience.

I will never drive in GT7 again without VR. It's not the same game.

130,000 miles driven in bumper cam and 100 driven today. It's a different level of experience. I don't know how to explain it but you guys all know so preaching to the choir so to speak.
Welcome to the light!

Be honest, you thought we were all mad when we would exclaim that it is VR or nothing. I have driven bumper a couple of times since conversion and it just feels so wrong now.

You really should start the game over again. All the single player content is fun again as you get to explore all the different cars. Seriously, even the van race we had around Tokyo was fun when you get to explore the inside of the van while leading at 89mph! LOL

VR is absolutely transformative. No going back now.

Random (but cool!) suggestions to try:

-Eiger at night in karts.
-Willow springs (I’m being serious) in the Gr2 NSX at dusk
-Goodwood in the Gr4 M4 at dusk
-Le Mans in the GT-One

Tips for nooby VR users.

  1. In convertibles and open roadsters you'll get the urge to rest your elbow on the door and cruise. Remember, the door is not really there!
  2. It'll mess with you initially when you want to try to push buttons on the dash or steering wheel to only realize you can't.
  3. You'll want to stick your head out the window at Daytona at night (or Alsace) to watch the fireworks or the space shuttle taking off. Only don't stick your head out too far or the VR space will disappear.
  4. You'll find yourself moving around in the car more leaning into the corners.
  5. You may get the desire to look over your shoulder and check out what is behind you. Don't do this in race. You'll steer off track and crash spectacularly.
  6. Speaking of crashing, it may be good to learn to shut your eyes before massive crashes. Your head will thank you.
I'm sure there is much I have forgotten and you'll have fun figuring it out, but speaking of (3) and (4) above you do have to be conscious of the VR space. In some cars, particularly single seaters, if you move your head out the cockpit, the VR world will disappear and you'll be left in a black void with the green boundary lines. I found I can mitigate that somewhat but setting my VR space while leaning forward over the wheel.

As a noob user I would like to say, 274.6 miles national a to international A licences all gold (apart from the rally one grrrr)

No motion sickness, pace is actually faster than my daily/TT pace for some tracks.

Need to get used to the blurry effect but it doesn't interfere with the driving.

Braking markers and points are a bit (quite a lot) different as you are getting used to it, some you can go later but most you sort of have to go a fraction earlier for (but you'll brake in a different way)

I'm just addicted quite honestly. I wish I'd of had the balls to pull the trigger earlier but happy with the perceived saving.

As I said I don't think I'll ever play GT again without it. Just a much richer game now.

As we age, there are few opportunities for the sort of child like joy, donning that vr head set and driving gives. Glad you chose joy bud.

It's magical mate. Just magical. I'm here at 11:30 at night wife and daughter all asleep and I'm just driving whatever car the license or mission throws at me.

I feel this game was always envisioned to be played this way now.

Our house is automated and lights will switch dim down and switch off at night. Many times I pulled my headset off only to realize it was approaching 2am in the morning and the house was all dark. Easy to forget when you are lost in a sunny VR world. Have you noticed perceived warmth on your arms yet when in a convertible and the sun hits you? That feeling will disappear as your mind gets used to the idea of it being fake but for the first few days or so, I would really sense (perceive) temp changes in the environments I was in. Kind of cool.
