Rockstar today released a new patch for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V. It introduces a variety of fixes, but also reportedly kills the ability to use mods, something that wasn't officially supported in the first place.

According to members of the modding community, today's patch renders Script Hook V, a tool used for GTA V mods, unusable. This is forcing those who wish to continue using mods to revert to older versions of the patch, which you can only do if you've made backups ahead of time or are willing to download older files online from unofficial sources.

****** R*...

Mods extend the life of video games. GTA IV wouldn't be as popular if it weren't for all of the mods available for it.

How did you guys even expect mods to work? Of course any non-cosmetic mods are gonna be banned online, especially in public sessions. If someone were to make a mod that highlighted players through walls, or gave the Insurgent the driving characteristics of the Zentorno, would you expect that to be allowed?

Exactly, you use game breaking/cheaty mods, expect to get banned.

Glad I held off. Haven't played the PC version for a week, just holding off until the good mods start rolling in. (new cars, etc) I can wait.

With all of the new cars, I am excited to see mods for the real-life cars they're based on. Ex: Turismo R gets a mod for the McLaren P1, Truffade Adder gets the Bugatti Veyron SS, Vapid Bullet gets the 2005-2008 Ford GT, etc...

Loving the PC version so far... Only thing that gets me is that GTAO crashes every now and then. Don't know why, V works fine for hours on end :indiff: Still, it's great fun, especially since I play mostly invite-only with just my room mate :D

Not bothered by R★'s ban on mods, either. Got so much to do in GTA O and V, that's gonna last me for months, at least...

Made a little cinematic movie with a Jester on GTAV:

Everything except 1 scene was done in 1 take. The jump @ 6:40 was done in 2. I did the original jump from the donuting and kept the wheel shot but I wasn't going fast enough and hit the pillar. Second shot I got a bigger run up and made it.

Despite its age GTA IV on PC stacks up pretty well.

I don't think that's a fair representation as GTAIV had a modded Ferrari, and we know that modded cars were of higher visual quality than GTAIV's standard cars.

Its a shame GTA IV was such an unoptimised piece of trash on the PC though.

I mean, I can run GTA V in 60 FPS with ultra settings, but I can only get 30 to 40 FPS on medium with GTA IV. Nice one Rockstar

Oddly enough it runs better with graphics mods.

Should've used slidey cars.

Forgot the cheat. Why are they even called cheats when you don't earn anything apart from many hours of fun? Anyway, will try to do one for every vehicle in the game. Now, making an action film out of the Dump truck will be tricky.

If I want lots of monay, all custom parts unlocked, can I do that with cheats or do I need one of those trainer things that could get be banned even though I have no intentions of going online?

The main attraction for this game on PC is the mods. Unfortunately, Rockstar strongly dislike the modding of their games and have hidden the files behind deep and complex walls of encryption that have not yet been accessed.

As modding beyond that of simple shaders and scripts is not possible yet, people have been downloading these relatively harmless mods that can improve the graphics, change the field of view or just spawn a trainer to allow you to have a mess around in single player. I downloaded a shader mod to improve my graphics and a field of view mod as the default FoV isn't very good or useful. I eventually decided to go online again, and just to be on the safe side I removed them. Upon connecting I had been banned.

The lack of any form of policy and the banning of players for no particular reason is unacceptable.

Thousands of people have been banned over the past few days and the amount of players on Steam has plummeted. The reason Rockstar are so harsh on the matter is they want to protect GTA Online, their cash cow. Would it not make more sense to do a file validation check when people try to connect to online? This would allow single player to be open to modding and online would be safe. Cosmetic mods, such as skins, real world cars and weapons should be allowed regardless as these do not affect the game in any way, and are client based only.

Instead, they've decided to ban everyone. And people are not happy. The race to mod GTA V is on, and with additional security methods blocking traditional ways of de-encryption being released with every update, people are only going to try more elaborate ways to get into the files of GTA V. Rockstar need to realise this is not a good idea, and if the gaming media get a hold of what they are doing people are going to be really displeased.

GTA IV had an amazing modding community. The fact I can make a 2008 release look as good as a game from 2015 is remarkable. There is a lot of talent and potential profit here if Rockstar would open up this game for us to tamper with.

You'd need a trainer to get all that. No "Unlock everything and have mega money" cheat. Just complete the story (Or try DLing a 100% save file or something if there is any).

Damn right. R* could profit from people using mods but NO they have to be the A-Holes in this.

Just an educated guess, but I think they're trying (too hard) to protect the economy of GTA Online...
Either way, I just wish they'd adress the damn stability issues already. The R* boards are choke full with complaints about that issue. Seems to be completely random and nobody's found a workaround or even the cause yet. Really getting on my nerves and makes me want to stop playing :indiff: They oughta fix that before going after potential modders, damnit.

Just thought it was worth mentioning how good the soundtrack is. Possibly the best GTA soundtrack, but it could never be more of a musical influence on me than Vice City.

There are way too many times I will hear a song on the radio, at the grocery store, etc etc in real life that instantly makes me think of Vice City.
