GTDesigned: A Community Vision GT Project

We'll going to add a series of poll for 3 days, for now the layout

  • Total voters
    116
  • Poll closed .
Blender, it's free :) You can download it at www.blender.org
It's a bit tricky when you're new to it because there are so many tools and functions but there are a lot of great tutorials available!
That's nice, although is there a app on the App Store similar to that? Because my laptop apparently is a slow arse and now I have to relie on my IPod Touch.

Also I'm planning to do a few VGT designs here. Will try my best to make these bad boys. ;)

Make a Volvo/Polestar VGT. Someone ask permission and they may help in the process. You never know. Volvo may just make one of their designers or even Polestar representative available. It's worth a shot.

VGT hatchback! *yet this looks crappy*

But it won't be a community designed anymore

Remember we can use Venturi's on the vents. When air passes over them they create vacuum sucking air out from under the car. Doesn't use energy like a fan car but still sucks hard.

sounds like that really sucks.... lol :D

@eran0004 You have tempted me to download Maya, Yes, with a connection speed of 7 seconds per Megabyte... Do you use .obj?

@pokemonfan58 I have recreated your VGT as a GT car.... looks a lot like a mclaren F1.... derp... lol

@LosCules24SFA I've been active in this thread; but now I'm joining this party for real. :D #3Dmodeling. I haven't made my own car model yet. :D I've always had to copy other peoples cars. :D (1960s muscle car) (Late 90s Silvia)(Late 90s Nascar). I was making a rollercoaster somewhat recently; so I should be able to pick it back up quickly. :) What model should I create first? My original 3 wheeled car? or the 4 wheeled variant of that car?

Sure it can be. Volvo as the brand and they would be as sponsor. Like students design cars for different brands.
If Volvo didn't do VGT initially I doubt they'll let a forum sight with no Volvo employees do it for them

I think reflecting on the poll result the 4 wheel version would be better

There's strength in numbers. Volvo entered V8 Supercars amid V8 fans disliking their entry to the series. Now, VOLVO have seen peek interest rise each V8 meeting.

It's all good. This is a good community get together, to what will be an awesome creation. I submitted my preliminary sketch. Can't wait to see what everyone has voted for and the final design.

Here's a example of a fuel injected, turbocharged, two stroke, Arctic Cat. May not be a V configuration but ours can be. Looks to be about 1200cc and producing 300-500hp depending on NOS.

I can't draw well enough to represent what I want so I'll tell you about it;

It's a small Alfa 4C style front with winglets and pop up front aerofoil. With a a Toyota TS030 rear ended with rudder connected to the steering. Venturi vents on the rear ducting air up from underneath around the motor assisting cooling. As well as a DRS rear wing that provides extra downforce when required. I see a cockpit similar to the Sauber with gullwing doors. This fits in with the exoskeleton or shell made from a titanium/graphene composite providing structural integrity especially with large sills flowing through between the wheels.

If anyone can draw something like that they'll have my vote.

Sorry @sk8er913 busy with kids. Interested to see the result. Which software and printer are you using?
No printer; Maya 2013... It is forcing me to use the trial version though; GRR! because my old HDD died; so now that i have a new hdd it says that I have already installed that activation code on another computer. ugh! :P

That kind of looks like the junior x2014 lol. I like it lol. put rudders on the back too and see what it looks like. :)

You're a professional modeller; aren't you. :sly:

How do your wheels work?

I'm definitely no professional modeller, that's why all my designs are simple cone-shaped bodies :P

The wheels aren't ready yet, they're supposed to have hollow rims with electric motors inside that generates the torque. But it could just still be a combustion engine, it's just that the drivetrain from the engine to the wheels is electric, to save weight and allow more freedom in the design. So the engine powers a generator, the generator transfer the power to the electric motors in the wheels.

The rudders are supposed to be attached to the rims and not to the tyre, I need to figure out how to model that.

My laptop is also slow. The good thing about Blender is that it doesn't necessarily need a lot of power to run. You will almost always make a model using fery few vertices and then you apply a subdivide modifier that makes it high resolution for the rendering. With a slow computer you'll have to wait longer for the renders to be made, but for the actual modelling process it shouldn't be too big of a problem. It actually runs smoother than SketchUp on my computer.

I use Blender, it's 100% free, no limitations :) It even has a game engine, so if you want to make simple 3D games you can use it for that as well. You can find it at www.blender.org

I know :) I've used blender before; but I'm comfortable with Maya :) Check out my lag fest of a live stream if you want to watch me model. :)

My model looks horrible; so far; probably because its 3:20 AM... lol gn all. the live stream fun is over.; Im going to have to redo the rear 1/3rd of the car because I somehow managed to mess the geometry up. :P
