GTDesigned: A Community Vision GT Project

We'll going to add a series of poll for 3 days, for now the layout

  • Total voters

I quite like the project name 'Planet Vision'

If we were going for animal names, i think 'Tarsier' (as in Tarsier monkey - they're small rapid things), or 'Flea', again, tiny and rapid.

Vision Flea Tee

Thank you I'm here all week đź‘Ť

There's a website........... Rhymezone.com that I use when helping my Clients come up with Names for Products, etc. Check it out.

Being from the Philippines, if I can recall, Tarsiers usually just stay still and look around about.

How about "Needletail" or "Hobby"?

Hobby would sound odd, but Needletail would work. Could even design in an actual needle shape to the back of the car, as reference.

We don't have to make a literal needle at the back.

Here is a Needletail:

We could shape a part of the rear to have a similar shape to the needletail's... tail.

Maybe we could call it the Geyatahi, savage in Cherokee, I think with the 2 stroke V4 it will sound pretty savage...hopefully with the performance to match.

edit: I will be back later...

Could you imagine all the immature jokes people will pull off on that name...?

Name of the car is a bit early to discuss about..

The name of the project isn't the car's name. When a concept car is reveiled, it's almost always a temporary name, the production/actual car get's another name. IMO we have to be carefully we don't give away to many details before reveiling the car. People can't search on google if they don't know the name of the car. That's why a project name is clever and by a closed group with trusty good people, the design and details won't leak before 'launch date'

And that got me thinking yesterday. I think we are going the wrong way. Now it's the plan to make several designs, time and inspiration consuming 'projects' for the designers. And the biggest fault we make here, is to get a car with no surprises. We don't need a launch date, because we get a car with all the voted elements in it, after the designers have made their drawings, time after time, detail after detail. I think we get a car like the McLaren 1p, a very stylish supercar, but without any emotion. It's a piece of art, but not that kind of supercar desired by millions of kids...they want a Ferarri or Lamborghini above their bed, that McLaren isn't that sexy.

I've a big big, no seriously, big aversion to 'mood boards' , trendy people who make them to style their house, theirself or even to see what kind of holiday they would make. Argghh. (fact ; I'm not trendy)

But those 'mood-boards' could be a smart way of what we like and what we are searching for. To be honest, we need a couple of threads then, to start several poll's and discussion about wheel/body/light/interior design. But also egineering, simulation and driving characteris. To be honest, we needseveral threads for my idea.

Step 1 ; In every single thread about .... we collect photo's of designs we like of a single element in the design, but you may also draw them if you're idea is new and innovative. All the photo's and drawings would collide into 1 or 2 big vgt-boards.

Step 2 ; We will vote for the best and most inspiring photo's and drawings. Be sportive and don't vote for yourself. If your photo or drawing is that good, you will get votes automatically.

Step 3 ; The top 3 winning photo's/drawings are the inspirational guide for the designers. They may be creative. We could help to fine-tune the top 3 with other or better examples of that element. But I think we get the best result by give the designers more freedom.

'Cheetah' is already taken http://www.billthomascheetah.com/

'Vulcan' is also taken http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulcan_(motor_vehicles) / http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/tag/vulcan/

And there's a Honda bike called 'Nighthawk'. Also the Chrysler Concorde.
I will also comment again and say

  1. Those Cheetahs are technically 60s sports cars being restored. So...
  2. Vulcan went in the 50s (making only commercial vehicles)
  3. The Chrysler Concorde was made when Daimler owned Chrysler so... yeah...
  4. Nighthawk is a pretty generic name (even a stealth bomber uses it...) and as I said we are doing this for no profit, so I doubt Honda will see it as a bad thing.

It isn't obliged to give the vgt an animal kinda name.

Like the idea of the body panels with energy storage, made out graphite/grapheen (whatever). Graphonite, Grapheen or any other variation on it could be a name too. But it's too early to think about it now. We don't know anything of the car yet. 0 specifications we have. At the time we are certain the car is filled with different kind of technical innovations, then it's maybe time to think and discuss about the name.

And then again, when the designers come to an end and the car looks like a wooden shoe, maybe we call it the VGT Klomp or something.

Nobody, but since the first small and fast animal was given some attention here, this thread became a National Geographic wildlife fan thread :D

Animal names just sound so cool though... unless the car gets called chihuahua.

We could call it the Manx. Which is a cat from Isle of Man. Visually the name also connects to Le Mans. If GTPlanet is the brand it would be the GTP Manx.

I like the project name 'Manx'. đź‘Ť

I got a bit curious to see how @787bcgr's design would look if it were slightly better rendered.

The original design/sketch:

And here's my neatened up version:

As you can see, iv'e altered it slightly for a more realistic/ believable look (ie: wheel clearance for suspension etc etc). I hope i haven't lost too much of the design language in my translation.

And here's the special edition 'Clown car version'..

 Just kidding. I thought some of you may have been interested in how i do my drawings. I'm basically using an old version of 'Photoshop', along with my 'Wacom Intuous 4' graphics tablet.
After iv'e done some basic line work, i draw out a shape then fill it with a contrasting colour. The more surfaces in a design, the harder it becomes to differentiate between them though, and 787's design has a lot of surfaces, hence the clown coloured car.

This is a close to finished version of it, (unnecessary at this stage in the project, i know.. but just got carried away).
There's still a bit to finish on it, but it's starting to look more and more like a mini McLaren P1, and personally, i'm not too pleased that it does. I know iv'e made a few changes from the original sketch, but i was hoping our VGT would look a bit more concepty than it is here.

I agree with some of the comments here.
Do your stuff in the correct order, sort out the design once for all and then the specs.

Details like the wheels shape, the name, etc... come afterwards. Surely, 'GTP VGT' is more than good enough for now. Prioritise! :)

And indeed, I agree with @Nessy , be radical, add some design details that make your car unique. I liked the mirrors sticking out from the wings to give it that Kei car feel, for example.

I don't consider myself part of your project as my participation is pretty much non existent, but please allow me to remind you what you set up to do from the beginning!

EDIT: I can't stop looking at Nessy's avatar and think "but they've got it here already!!" / "I would enjoy that..."

We are.

Just were not the doodlers

I remember first seeing that and wanting that to be built straight away.

Give it half a 458 engine and it'd be godly
