Round 03 // Spanish Grand Prix

Another tough race with all those walls jumping on the cars whenever the drivers don't pay attention !

Probably due to the hot weather compared to the 2 previous rounds, reliability was terrible this week. The race started with one of the largest grid to date (9) and yet finished with one of the smallest field (5).

Blisteringly fast, TRL_Evolution ends Ryan's two consecutive wins. Fact: 100% of winners wear a red helmet.

That was an interesting challenge. Did better than I expected but also know there's lots of improvement needed.

Pre-Race:
Tried out the car for the first time on Friday and signed up soon after. After getting a basic setup from @True-blue-8 I started making tweaks and getting my Madrid time down. The outside front would take a beating and despite trying to shift the weight of the car around I couldn't fix it.

Qualifying:
I put in a 1:10 on my first flyer which oddly enough wasn't beaten by anyone other than @RacingLine, giving me an unexpected front row start.

2nd

Race:
I got off the line fairly well and briefly threatened @RacingLine on the main straight but held off into Turn 1. He then naturally pulled away and I took some minor damage after clipping a wall on Lap 2.

I kept a comfortable P2 for a few laps before @RyanRacer caught up. Despite being quicker he couldn't get past and was stuck behind me until the Safety car came out.

I pitted for Hards and rejoined the pack, but not before a light spin at Turn 1. Once I did catch up I missed my braking point and bumped into the car in front. That caused no damage but with @RyanRacer having no time to react behind me I got bumped and took engine damage. I made another stop for Hards thinking they would last the remainder of the race and resumed in P7.

I made up a few spots as others started to spin out or retire and switched to Mediums on Lap 23 but with all of my own issues @STOCKY8A1 was out of reach in P2. @David Talle was beatable however and with a Medium/Medium final 2 stints I was close enough to get by when he made an error.

That game me P3, resulting in my 4th Podium in 19 GTPlanet races. Hopefully I can sort out the car's problems before the next race.

@David Talle

@RacingLine Fixed. 👍
If Sauber is more competitive this year we will see what he's made of !

I tried to stay in front with a 2 stops strategy, I was on a 16 laps stint on mediums and when I saw you were catching me up fast, pressure + tyre wear = mistake ! Great job for a first FGT race though ! 👍

Sorry everyone for jumping out of the race so early. I was really looking forward to being able to finish this race. especially after managing a podium finish at Bathurst just from being consistent. (although not changing tires really helped :banghead: )

@True-blue-8 On your google doc, if you click on puplish to the web and use the HTML thet it gives you it gets red of the editing bar and all you are left with is the bit that people need to know!

Can you sign me up for the Honda Racing Team? If it isn't already full, of course. Otherwise put me down as a reserve.
