GTP Cool Wall: 1987-1994 Lancia Delta Integrale

1987-1994 Lancia Delta Integrale

I expressed my views. They just went against the popular vote.

Out of the last twelve cars polled, by my count I have gone against the overwhelmingly popular vote on four occasions. When I do, I more often than not try to explain why. You're certainly not the only one who from time to time contradicts what everybody else thinks, yet you seem to be the one who is most frequently called out for it.

If nobody else is getting quizzed for their vote, it clearly isn't the differing opinion that people take issue with - perhaps it is the reasoning behind it?

Maybe so.

Awesome, awesome car. But at the end of the day it looks like some 16 year old wanted a race car but had to make do with his mum's Lancia. Seriously uncool.

Not upset at all. Getting a little annoyed however.

Or you can continue doing what you said you would rather not do. The choice is yours. Carry on, I won't bring it up again.

Cute.

Although I would rather not carry on with the cool wall discussion/debate/etc., I never said that I would not answer those who questioned me.

@Adamgp Just one last question and I'll let you go: What makes this hatch less cool than the PT Cruiser, which you voted cool? The PT Cruiser is a hatch just like the Integrale, so what makes it cool to you? I'm just trying to comprehend your logic, as I really don't understand it.

Wow, asking me to remember back to November? I can't remember stuff from this morning. I guess it was personal experience with the PT, plus I like how it looks.

Fun fact: The PT was classified by the EPA and NHTSA as a truck/SUV.

I find it amusing, how off-topic some of these Cool Wall threads can get. Today I learned something absolutely pointless about Chrysler PT Cruiser on a thread about Lancia Delta Integrale.
Since Chrysler and Lancia are now the same company, the current Lancia Delta is sold as the Chrysler Delta and is a replacement for the PT Cruiser, it's not exactly off topic.

Anyway. European hatchback = cool - but the fact this is an ugly-ass piece of Italo-fail, it only just stays as cool.

Its because this one is Hot, the other is not.

How about we balance out the PT Cruiser fact with an Integrale fact: The reason why the Evo models have a bonnet bulge is because Lancia wanted some extra suspension travel for the rally car. The front top mounts are raised about 3 inches over their standard location, hence the need for the raised bonnet.

@Adamgp voting rhetoric dictates that all American cars are cool to sub-zero and most non-American cars are meh-seriously uncool.

Escapes the normal "seriously uncool" hot hatch vote for being a little less common and a little more interesting than most.

It's a Lancia that can still give modern hot hatches a run for their money. Sub Zero

Never really thought of the Delta as a hot hatch, not even a hatch really. I look at it and go "That's a rally car." Don't even care what configuration it is, or just about any car really.

Awesome car. I would love to own one, but to most people, this is just a boxy late 80s hatchback, and one that doesn't look particularly pretty, light, or lithe on its feet either. Meh.

Not really, not any more. The game has moved on substantially.

Evo mag did an article almost seven years ago, pitching an Integrale (EvoII) against a Clio 197, Corsa VXR and a Fiesta ST185 on track. The Delta was comprehensively beaten. And they're supermini sized hatches, not the full fat Golf - Focus - Civic sized hot hatches that would have been even quicker.

Perfect example:

Focus RS

Appeals to a younger crowd, because insurance is cheap, there's a decent aftermarket, and it's efficient while being some semblance of sporty. From the websites I saw, it has around 40 more horsepower than the base model hatchback, and it's from 2002 (Meaning: fully depreciated, making it easier for fresh drivers to get a hold of it).

Warm hatch was probably the wrong term, but whatever.

Oh no it isn't. Insurance over here for young lads is completely insane.
I've been driving for more than 5 years now with no accidents or claims of any kind and I have only just now received a decrease from a renewal. But even so the decrease wasn't by much. Usually for young guys to insure a car, they'll buy a crappy car for less than £500 and the insurance cost will be nearly four times that amount!

In terms of the Focus RS, it appeals for the other reasons you stated and mainly because it's cheap to buy nowadays, the aftermarket parts are plentiful and insurance will become affordable for them at some point, but usually by then they can afford something with better performance.
