From few fun races we did in Alfas @Fuji over the past 2 months I seem to recall that even from 0mph at the line there was enough draft for some 3-wide action in turn 1. Just sayin...

We'll find out in practice Monday and make adjustments if it looks like it's going to be messy. I know for a fact alone by myself if I start at the top of 2nd at the start finish at about 82 mph and go at the line I can't get to 5th by the brake zone. How much draft will kick by that point I don't know yet.

To a large extent the onus is still on the drivers to get through turn 1 clean and use their best judgement and take conservative lines early in the race.

Note: In case any of you weren't around when we ran Decisions, Decisions in the WRS back in Week #28 and may not have the DTM cars used that week you might want to grab one or both of them from the Online Car Dealership:

ABT Audi TT-R Touring Car '02
BMW M3 GTR Race Car '01

Each car costs $1M credits. You never know if we'll run that combo again. :sly:

There was a third car you could choose from that week, but I don't think it's available in the OCD at the moment and I also believe it was the least popular:

Opel Astra Touring Car (Opel Team Phoenix) '00

For the Decisions event (Both offline, and online) only the 'Opel Astra Touring Car (Opel Team Phoenix) '00' car was allowed, so if when we do run that event again, we will stick to the original 3 cars.

For the Online race, everyone used either the BMW or the Audi, so hopefully someone will give the Opel a shot 👍

It would be fun to try and figure out how we could make a team based event out of it. Either have manufacturer teams or each team has to have one driver in each car. i.e. teams of 3. Would be a fun alternative.

Also note that the improved body rigidity cannot be added!

Ooops I added this part earlier today without thinking about wednesday and its made it worse:ill:, good job I had not signed up yet.

Run the b spec seasonal at spa 3 times and buy a new one. You don't even have to watch if you have a high level bob. 1 hour total of unattended run = $12 million

Why is it not allowed?

Tuning prohibited and with that installed GT5 will not allow you on the track. Has to be completely stock including settings. Add ons like turbo that you can disable are fine (if you disable them), but you can't remove the rigidity upgrade. I put this in the advanced notice thread:

Keep the car fully stock for now as the exact upgrades or options are yet to be determined. In other words, do NOT add any upgrades that cannot be removed!

Ill have to have a look at that thankyou.

NOTE: Due to the last GT5 update completely messing up qualification time tracking and thus messing up the start order we are going to revert to our original 3D3 qualification procedures moving forward.

It's not much of an issue for our Wednesday races at Fuji as we are running a formation lap so we can reorder if the grid is screwed up, but until this is updated by PD we're going to follow the following procedures:

Once you enter the track for qualifying you are NOT allowed to enter the pits or exit to the lobby. Run your laps and then park out of the way in a safe spot designated by a race steward.

Depending on drivers/traffic we can still run group qualifying and just have one group of cars wait idle while the first group runs and visa versa. The most important thing is everyone is on track and nobody pits. If one person pits it can screw up the grid order for everyone.

Also a minor change in the formation lap procedures after testing today. Note that this worked fine and it's been tested so this is what we're going with:

  1. Exit the grid and reform single file in proper order at the end of the initial straight *before* turn 1.
  2. Drive up to 3rd gear (4th and 5th prohibited) in sectors 1 and 2 during the formation lap. Warm tires and spread out a little.
  3. After the sharp right hander to begin Sector 3 (Dunlop) slow down and stay in 2nd gear through sector 3. Everyone should close ranks to within a car length or two at this point.
  4. When exiting the final turn the lead car should stay in 2nd gear and not max out until all cars are tightly packed at which point he can max out 2nd gear, but cannot shift into 3rd.
  5. Once the leader passed the timing line (and the lap count ticks to 2) you can shift to 3rd and commence the race.
  6. This will shorten the braking zone to turn 1 and also eliminate the draft impact for the most part and help get to a clean start in the race.

I can't believe you guys don't like my gold chrome car. :sly:

Are there more reports of messed-up orders? Cause on Friday in ORCA the room was screwed up completely, and today the proposed procedure wasn't followed. So personally I think there needs to be some testing done. I haven't seen a clean test of where everyone either stays in the pits or leaves to the lounge and re-enters pits.

The Wednesday night NA race everyone followed procedure and all exited to the lobby and it was messed up. I really think they broke it so now when someone leaves the track the timing screen gets messed up. If everyone stays on track it works -- or at least it worked today when we tested it.

I don't believe we've tried everyone exits to pits and stays there. I think you guys were going to try that until Sag decided to not follow directions. I guess that's the next thing to test, but I don't think that adds much over just having people pull over -- except maybe at a tight track like Monaco where it would be nice to get the out of the way.

With everyone on the track there needs to be either a steward watching to check the times or someone needs to wait starting his quali to make sure that the room is okay. Cause if nobody can see the times the grid will be screwed up even if people park it on the track after being done.

As much as we need to run a couple more tests to see if the old way (Quoted in Tim's message) works 100%, this is the third time this week I've been in a lobby that had all drivers stay on track and it has worked all 3 times.
Any lobby I've been in that strayed from this setup / system had the quali system fail, and the grid order was incorrect.

Dan, are you just uncertain of even that working, so we would need a backup?

I think what Dan is saying is that sometime the track reset is "bad " but if the times show in the monitor you know it's good. If nobody watches it usually still works but you won't see the bad reset so you won't know. If someone is watching however you can reset again if the timing is not showing.

I did witness cases when grid was screwed up (people that clearly put their car on the pole starting way back) with this 'stay on track' procedure. Once or twice it was evident in practice already (nobody could see anybody's lap times) and lingered after the track reset, and during others it was also usually clear, since was showing me at the top of the list on the right, but with 'fastest lap' being faster then my best lap. So, on a second thought, no reason for a steward watching, but everyone should check that the ordering they see is consistent.

Just remembered we aren't running quali on Wednesday. Order by WRS time with formation lap. But we are doing quali on Saturday so should get it sorted by then.

I'm in for NA Race, and Tim I like the gold chrome, Mine is pearl yellow, with yellow wheels and yellow headgear and outfit!

Just a reminder that your car can't have the chassis reinforcement. I sent out an email earlier to those already registered, but you weren't on the list at the time. If you put on the reinforcement for the time trial you'll have to buy a new one for the online races.

Also, the car does drive different without the tune online. It's actually very fun, but the first 6-8 laps feel odd... once you get used to the stock tune it drives very well... the stock tune is easier to handle except in a few turns where the extra down force comes in handy.

UPDATE:

If we have to split into two grids this week we will do so by submitted WRS lap time. The top half of drivers will go in GTP_3D3Racing and the rest will race in GTP_3D3_B. In the case of an odd number the primary lounge will get the extra driver.

It looks likely in the EU time slot and possible in NA. Basically if we have over 12 drivers we'll have to split due to the bug/lag.

Note that as long as there are 16 or less the pre-race practice will take place all together in the primary lounge and a host and drivers will head over the alternate lounge just prior to starting the event.

Only one person is needed to mess it all up for everybody.
Even if this person is not on pole, when he exits to the lounge, the system gets all messed up apparently.

Or use one of those coupons we got for 'return to stock'?

I recall reading it doesn't remove added parts, but that's just from memory. I should test this. If it works great idea.

I think it does restore all the way to 'original', but I haven't tried it yet.
If anyone has tried the restore coupon, feel free to let us know if it works 👍

As far as I know , the coupons are/work exactly same as the one you can pay for in GT Auto.

I did the engine overhaul using a coupon and the car basicly got oilchange + few lost horses , but no mileage reset.

^^ OK, I'll get my PS3 up and running and try a ticket on a chassis re-enforced car and see what happens with respect to added parts.

^Don't. I just tried the 'car restoration ticket'. It just removed the miles from the car (I need to break it in again), but not the chassis reinforcement.
