Relative time might not have changed for some, but it has for me - signed up!

In other news, I've definitely come around on this track (since the parity races here), but if I happen to win lotto, I'd consider buying and importing this car just so I can remove the gearbox and subject it (the gearbox) to a sledgehammer, compaction into a small cube and/or explosives.

After you do that... give it one swift kick for me. :sly:

Yeh I fully agree.

From what I'm aware, the model used for the game is some crappy chinese, US export version (or something like that) with an automatic gearbox (if you go to cockpit view you can see the driver doesn't use an shifter). You could practically fit an entire extra gearbox into this one lol. I hear the proper US manual version of the car is very nice.

Yeah, that 3rd to 4th shift might as well be two gears instead of one! Maybe alter the event so we can all use the close ratio box instead? I mean it's still fair for everyone either way but that stock tranny is a POS.

We're using the recommended car so we're all stuck with the gear box the way it is stock.

Signed up as a reserve for the NA race (depend of my awakeness level).

EDIT: And yes, I updated the division column to use the same graphics as the time trial leaderboard. You prefer the old version?

looks very nice 👍
Maybe you could start using BST instead of GMT to make it easier to understand? That way it would be 20:00 BST.
And what about the rest then? In this case maybe i can ask to use CEST which is currently my time. That way it would be 21:00 CEST. Honestly, keep GMT is the best way to go 👍

Overtaking could certainly be interesting in this one, I'm looking forward to the first corner and seeing how many people miss the braking and plow into the end barrier

To me these events moved from 22:00 -> 21:00 (in Finnish time) and it's bit too early to me, but have to live with it.

EDIT: Just noticed that i'm now GMT +3 now so event start still 22:00 in Finnish time :)

Agree.

Large Grid + Heavy Car + Madrid = :nervous:

Add a long run from the start/finish to a very tricky turn 1 = :scared:

Don't they do the running of the bulls in Spain? Well this will likely be the running of the horse and probably cause more collateral damage than the bulls. :)

Agree, overtaking will be a tough thing, the long straigth and the back straight are the only real overtaking places after getting some slipstream, some braking points could also lead into overtaking :) Has someone fo you already done some practice laps ?

There are practice sessions every Tuesday from 8 PM GMT. A bunch of people show up, and small practice races are also held. A good way to practice running in draft and traffic.

Yeah thanks i looked it up tonight 21pm CET i´ll try some practice laps for comparison due to i have no time for a race..

Just saw a lap of BanditKarter22 this is unbelievable faast! :scared: I´ve done best 1.44.200 with my DS3 but compared to his lap it would be very tire consuming over the whole race i drive tire saving i guess..:nervous:

I still need to try this combo out. Should get to it today 👍

Because of the time change the EU practice starts at 19:00 GMT today:

Official Practice Times

  • EU: Tuesdays @ 3:00 PM Eastern / 12:00 PM Pacific / 19:00 GMT
  • NA: Tuesdays @ 7:00 PM Eastern / 4:00 PM Pacific / 23:00 GMT
  • Pre-Race: The lounge is open for pre-race practice appx 1 hour prior to the official start of each event

But of course you can show up late (@20:00 GMT) and come and go as you please so the exact time is no big deal.

The NA practice has very low attendance so not sure if anyone will be there... but the lounge is reserved during that time.

PS> Bandit's lap I'm assuming was done offline without tire wear and also low grip reduction. There's no way to replicate that online... plus if you drive like bandit's offline lap with tire wear on (see hand brake) you're likely to have some issues with tires. :sly:

PPS> I'm way off the offline time pace this week... I've only done a few laps for testing to figure out the lap count and tire wear setting so I'm behind the 8-ball this week.

That means your still gunna be faster than me :sly: lol. My goal at the moment is to finish above you in a race :D

My skills online are quite different than online. Indeed, I given all my efforts and spent over 12 hours on this combo to cross the 1:42.000 barrier. But I'll be happy with a mid/low 1.43 online...

GTP_3D3 main lounge open for practice!

I will be AFK for a bit. See you all there soon!

Because of the risky nature of turn 1 we're going to change the start type of this event. We practiced this and it worked well. 👍

Formula One Style Formation Lap and Standing Start
  • After qualifying stay on track and a steward will read off qualifying times. When your time is announced (assuming it's correct) exit to the lobby.
  • When all drivers are in the lobby the steward will re-open the pits and all drivers should enter the pits.
  • The steward will call the drivers 1 by 1 onto the track in qualifying order and the drivers will line up in single file behind the pole sitter in order to stage the grid.
  • Once all drivers are in their proper start positions the steward will start the race countdown timer.
  • After the system places you on the grid for the start, drivers will run a "briskly paced" single file formation lap in quali order. If the system gets the order wrong use the formation lap to quickly shuffle.
  • The pole sitter should run the formation lap at a "reasonable" speed so it's completed between 2:00 and 2:20 on the race clock.
  • Weaving or other tire warming procedures are NOT allowed during the formation lap.
  • Following the exit of the final chicane all drivers will proceed to their appropriate grid starting marker. Odd numbers on the right, even on the left.
  • Once in your spot apply the breaks and do not move.
  • The race clock in the top right corner of the screen will then be utilized for timing the race start.
  • At exactly 3 minutes the race starts.
  • Should any driver mistakenly start prior to that mark they must lift immediately so as to not gain position from the error prior to turn 1.
  • If a driver misses the start you are allowed to pass on the straight, but only if you started at the proper time and can make the pass safely prior to turn in for turn 1.
  • Be cautious and courteous in the first turn. Dive bombing will be penalized and will not be tolerated. It's a long race and error on the side of caution as there are no runoffs and only walls to bounce you back into traffic.

One last note on the final chicane. Only one driver can fit through the chicane at a time so avoid "games of chicken" which will result in crashes collecting not only the two drivers involved, but those behind. There is no room to allow two wide per the OLR if a driver establishes overlap so the driver in front at the turn in point has the right of way and the driver behind must give way. If you play chicken and you were behind at the turn in, you may be subject to penalty if an incident results.

Finally, this race is going to take patience. There will surely be a few incidents with the walls so close... remember we're here to have fun and drivers of all abilities will be on track.

PS> We're going to use GTP_3D3_A with mics-disabled for the EU race... this track has a tendency for low refresh rates and tearing. We'll do the same for the NA race if there are 10 drivers or more.

Going to hop in the lounge for a bit more practice. I am going to be a back marker in this one if something doesn't improve.

For fun I made a formation + standing start instruction video:

We may use the same start for the academy so might be useful to have it on video.

(gtevolution... you've been punked.)

I was supposed to be on a work trip tomorrow, but it was cancelled. So now I get to race. :)

Notes on pit lane entry and exit.

You should not bomb into the pits as this will result in significant wall hits which is not allowed. A target entry speed of ~85 kmh / 53 mph in 2nd gear is a good safe entry speed. Although we are not imposing a fixed speed limit on entry if you go in too fast and make hard contact with a wall you may incur a 15 second penalty for minor boundary abuse. Practice your entries just like any other corner. Note that the AI will not take over the car immediately so be prepared for the first turns on pit lane.

On exit from the pits stay to the left. There is a dotted yellow line designating a lane to the far left and you should stay to the left of that line for the entire time which is the preferred side for turn 1 anyway. Remember, traffic on course has the right of way over cars exiting the pits. However, oncoming traffic should stay to the right of the yellow dotted line if a car is coming out of the pits.

Good Luck!

Please post this video on the Academy thread as well so everyone will have a chance to view it. And thanks for the video as I think it visually explains the whole procedure very well.

Will do, but only after the Academy admins verify we'll actually use that start method for the D-League race. Should be decided tomorrow.

If only GT5 would accurately place drivers on the starting grid this wouldn't even be necessary. I don't know why the programmers couldn't get something so simple right or even put in the administration option to place drivers on the grid in a selectable, specific order.
